Did the 2010 94.7 on 50km/week of running since Aug, 4 weeks of 3x IDT sessions per week. Did only 2xlongish rides during this time(Afriman Duathlon and a 2x40km ride)

I managed 2:53 and never felt 'under threat' due to fitness. HR never spiked, and always recovered after the hills. 'twas a great ride(for me) and I ascribe it all to the running miles.

I was very concerned about my cycling fitness for the Attakwas, I didn't ride much in December and still went away with the family, did some runs at 4 times a week.

Yes I would have loved to have done my proper cycling regime for the race, but I will have to say the running carried me through.

Shot, Ill run like the cops are chasing me.

Don't!

Have a look at http://www.runbayou.com/jackd.htm to calculate training paces based on race/time trials. It really helps that you do not overtrain/kill yourself (This Jack Daniels has a PHD, and is not the Whiskey oke)

Like today's training session

Yeah true, I didnt train today, but yesterday I wanted to go out with my wife at around 8am, and as I am long past the 4.30am rising story :D at 6.45am I headed out for a quick 10km run which was (to me anyway)as hard as an 60 / 70km cycle but only a fraction of the time.

Running is just so easy, all I need is a T shirt a pair of shorts, socks, a hat and my shoes - or for you younger fellas the T-shirt is optional :D - at my age I feel a little underdressed. :D

Ok been wanting to ask this question for a while, what about walking. I find running kills my body. I am just to big (not fat) I weight 118kg.

What is better.

half a hour run

hour walk

3 hour cycle.

The other day I was in the que at the supermarket and I heard someone calling "Oom Oom" but I didnt really click, next thing a young lass taps me on the back and says "Oom, you forgot your keys in the basket" :D - yeah its a bit tough I dare say, but as I tell my wife "Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most." :D

Sadly, I have never suffered from overtraining.

Much easier to do too much, too soon with running than cycling. 10hours cycling a week is there or there about for most serious recreational cyclists. 10 hours of running a week is a heck of a lot!

Gee, man, I dont know whats better as such, but I would certainly include a bit of power walking if you can, you are a big guy so I can understand running is tough on the knees, but a good power walk for an hour or so a few times a week will certainly be beneficial - if you like you can collect my Boxer pup on your route and take her with, an hour on the road with her will keep you honest in your endevours.

To get to an hour run (which is where you'll start noticing HUGE benefits), you'll need to get past the 30 minute runs first. ;)

Interesting point from an article in cycling news.com:

Run as a cross-training component in the off- season - great for mental freshness and cardiovascular strength.

If you're a serious cyclist racer type, avoid running during racing season as it does not benefit your cycling musculature and potentially damages those muscle groups.

Rather stick to keeping your cycling routine sharp and strengthen the cycling musculature.

Use it or lose it, Agent... :)

Even this can be disputed.

I guess I won't be using it.
