I will ride without looking at my watch; I will give it my all, both carburetors fully open!!! I race better without looking at the watch, if I miss the sub 3 tough luck!!

But if you do a 3:01 you'll be mightily p!ssed with yourself for not pushing it a lil bit harder towards the finish..... just a thought.

Yes true, but if the bunch rides that time it will mean that I will have to make a break and I might be all alone. I do look at my watch but more in the last 10km of the race. If I can get over Suikerbossie with some time to spare, I will put pedal to the metal

I did a 3:01 from KL at the Dischem Ride for Sight. I kicked myself for not pushing even harder than I did over the final km or so.

BUT I realized that there is something to LA's famous words; "every second counts"

The seconds at the start and the middle and the end all count the same. Same as golf... A 300m drive counts the same as a 2' putt.

All you really can do is to make sure you give it your best.

Just a side ponder:

The races over last 3 weeks, up here in GP, had the main bunch stay together almost to the end of each race and saw only a handful of riders doing the pace making.

Say there are 180 riders in a start group. If each one of those riders took a turn at the front for only 1 minute...

I'm with you, Feniks.

No watch. Focusing on the conditions, bunch tempo, etc.

Father Time will take care of himself.

Yikes, I will do well to come in sub 4. Then again I am also starting in PA, so by the time I hit Chappies (actually Smitswinkel more likely) you guys will all be snoozing somewhere. I better keep my attention on the road instead of the watch. Don't wanna drive over to many 'speed bumps'. It won't be good for me or my bike.
