Supervan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Heart rate Is it normal to be in Zone 5 "Maximum aerobic Heart rate", for more than 3 Hours during a 4 hours race http://www.totalindex.co.za/RideforSight.jpg Edited February 15, 2011 by Supervan
Guest agteros Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 How did you come about to the definition of "Zone 5"? Some formula,A default on the deviceActual test?
whitesox Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 recalculate your zones? How was it done in the past?
The Saint Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 No you must have felt half dead by the end. Dude unless you make a living out of it being on the limit for that long is just not healthy - unless of course you are just on the verge of zone 5 and not well within the zone.
pastapouch Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 My heart rate only has beats as its range. As for Zones, I probably don't even get to 5. Must probably be over 80% of max, then you are SUPERFIT. You'll kick Chuck Norris' behind...
Christopher Brunsdon Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Zone 5 is 90%-100% so that would be > 170 avg for me. Personally I'm at an avg 155 on a long ride but it would all depend on the route as I can avg > 170 on my one commute to work, but not for 3 hours.
Seeker911 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I wonder who the folks are that voted "yes" ? they must be **** hot fit and kick chuck norris butt everyday
fandacious Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 if you're in zone5 for 3 hours, then it isnt zone 5. go get your max HR checked, and get a coach to work out your zones
Gerhardc Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I did the Magalies Monster MTB last year in that extreme heat...45km took me 3 hours. My average heart rate was 179 and my MHR is 194.....i.e. 92% of MHR on average!!
LOUDMAC Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 TRAINING ZONESZONE % MHR DESCRIPTION1 60-65 Easy riding, recovery training2 65-70 Endurance base training3 70-80 Aerobic capacity training4 80-85 Lactate threshold training5 86 + Maximum aerobic training increasing max VO2 For all mountain bikers this is pretty normal.....!
pastapouch Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 got it, what is your max on your PC/ HRM set at, whatever it is, its incorrect. Way too low.
Gravity Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 i did a ride where my HR was 90 - 95% of max for most of the 2 and a half hours, except for a couple of water stops and such. I must say that it totally f*&ked me up, my HR was actually elevated the entire night after that, i got worried and couldnt sleep properly but it came right the next day. I recon that if your heart is healthy and there is no underlying problem/blockage then you can cane yourself with no harm.SuperVan is that the 1st time that you did that to yourself?
AndreZA Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I did the Urban Assault and my heart rate was over 100% for most of the time untill I took a leak on the side of the road and then it dropped.
Gravity Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 then again you wouldnt know if you had a problem until you died or had a cardiogramiologyomappything under stress.
Supervan Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 recalculate your zones? How was it done in the past? My age : 43Max Heart Rate : 182 Zone 1 = 111 - 139Zone 2 = 139 - 154 Zone 3 = 154 - 168zone 4 = 168 - 174Zone 5 = 174 - 182
Andyr249 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 At racing intensities it is not improbable.
