Contador - CAS ruling. (All things Contador/doping - merged)

Just seen a Sky News banner announcing that Contador has been banned for a year.

Contador apparently confirmed receiving the proposal, but the announcement still has to be made.

He will obviously appeal it, which will take forever especially if he takes it all the way CAS etc. Does he lose his TDF title now or only after his appeal if its unsuccessful. I seem to recall Floyd was stripped straight away. Not a good day for international cycling.

Basso, Vino, maybe brother Frank wants to upstage Andy, he has the pedigree

The team 1's should be interesting.

I don't think any of these guys are going to stick with Andy... There's also Evans, Sanchez, Wiggins, Leipheimer etc. But none of them a real threat to Andy IMO.

That's what I was asking this morning. He said that if found guilty, he would quit the sport. Okay, he didn't say immediatelty.

Which ever way it goes it looks like we have a new TDF winner for 2010 - Andy Schleck. I wonder what he must be thinking.

No one wants to win this way. Getting your name engraved on the trophy a year later? Not the type of victory you dreamt of as a kid. But a win is a win I guess...

Basso is the dangerman. Jurgen van den Broeck is also a wild card. Don't think Leopard Trek will be able to control the race from start to finish , while Liquigas showed in the 2010 Giro they have the firepower.

um, i'm a bit clueless on the subject as i'm a mtb'er, but surely if he had doped he didn't win fair and square

You clearly are clueless. The entire peleton doped in some form or another. So, yes,he did win fair and square.

So now he can go, train hard and dope more, and be ready for next years Tour. What a joke.

Not next year, if he doesn't appeal, he will be good to go for this years vuelta and worlds already.

On 702 sport this morning they mentioned 1 year suspension and losing his TDF win.

You trust the media? :o

Here's the Reuters story:

Reuters

Federation president Juan Carlos Castano told Reuters the RFEC had informed the rider of the competition committee's decision but said the report from El Pais and similar articles by other Spanish media were “invented”.

“Nothing has been told to anyone who is not the rider and in any case this is not the definitive decision,” Castano said.

“The definitive one will be made public in 10 days and not before and at no time can they (the media) know the proposal because it is completely secret.”

Same as Pereiro did in '97 I'd imagine. I wonder if Andy will wear the yellow at the 2011 prologue.
