It's time toset the record straight. The stuff up at SAs had nothing to do with PE or East Cape Cycling. A rep from PE flew to Jhb and informed CSA that the route was not safe and despite his attempts, CSA went ahead anyway. CSA is completly to blame for both SAs and today.

What a bunch of ******* clowns. This country will never be taken seriously as a cycling destination. All we'll ever have is the annual world funride champs.

And now a second stop, just 1:30 after the first one!

Hear Phil Liggett trying to say, in that very professional and politically correct manner of his, how he's never seen this before in an international bike tour, and basically how disappointing (unprofessional) it is for the tour.

Will be interesting if cyclejourno can get some first-hand comments from the riders about this - that second stop they looked really p1ssed.

Phil is sitting just behind me, working on his notebook.

Some blame must go to arrogant Johannesburg drivers, especially in the wealthier areas. One rider said, "Johannesburg citizens are wankers." One marshall said "I'm being ridden over here..."

I personally witnessed a driver at Dunkeld forcing his way across a blockaded intersection, a media person using his body to hold him back, saying, "Can you spare five minutes of your life?" Eventually a cop had to come and intervene.

I personally think the race could have been run in a smaller circuit entirely closed off or held earlier in the day, like at 6am.

Cannot just blame the Johannesburg drivers, in all fairness were they PROPERLY informed of what would be happening and where and when. Unless you have friends involved in cycling or are keen on the sport yourself it stands to reason that the average Joe/Jane did not know this was happening today.

Jo'burg is the wild west, any idiot knows you need to publicise your event and get a proper presence out there to enforce road closure. If you can do it for the 94.7 why can CSA not pull it off in front of international press coverage?

Nooooooooooooo I am leaving before that...catching an early flight to PE.

I saw EWN interviewing the organisers so keep your ears peeled or check their website...and you'll get the explanations/reasons/excuses there. Yesterday though, was very well organised. Same as SA Cycle Champs - on the first day.

CSA have royally messed it up again. They get one chance to put on a good show, to show the world an example of how well we can do events in this country and this is the end result. I'm not sure what has caused this but it's totally unacceptable and if SA does not get another opportunity to showcase international cycling like this, we know where to put the blame. They will of course find a way to offset the blame onto someone else, as per normal. It's an embarrassment for all concerned and for us as South Africans.

Yes well I stood in the sun for 2 hours on the bend at Monte Casino to see nuthing

I don't care who is resp but I certainly will not waste my time to go see another stage.

Stuff CSA,stuff the riders and stuff everyone involved.

That is certainly not the way to draw spectators and crowds to the sport.Let alone entertain holding an event like Tour Down Under

BTW Slowpoke...that was me on the crutches with my daughter.

I'm pretty sure the riders and others involved are just as pissed off as you are; bit unfair that - agree with "stuff cas" though.

Is tomorrow a rest day?

I really hope that the PE route is changed, someone is going to get killed on that route with the Taxis and trucks traveling at 120km/h.

Not really

It does not matter who is responsible. The product is spoiled and that is how most will view it

There I was, the only one, on the Mandela Bridge today in good time, surveying the looted balustrades and reflecting on the rotten corpse of downtown Jhb (so full of memories), drawing 'wtf' looks from taxi drives, passengers and the occasional pedestrian. The buzzing helicopters announced the coming of the leaders, just before them it was frantic chaos trying to close the road and get the taxis off. There was like one or two motorbikes trying to do this. No wonder it ground to a halt down the road.

What a shame.

"Stage two of the Cell C Tour of South Africa has been called off.

The race was hit by traffic disruptions when it entered the Johannesburg suburbs with reports that some divers were forcing cyclists off the roads.

There will be no result in Sunday’s stage of the tour.

The stage suffered three unplanned stops due to traffic control problems at Jan Smuts Avenue and Rivonia Road.

For the first time since Saturday, the race saw an all South African lead."
