  1. Here, have one of these...
  2. Yeah, I recall reading that claim from surfer-low. It'd take a brave manufacturer to bring out a bike without seat stays. If they set the bike up just right, something like the Can-a-dail (which I note your spelled really weirdly) Scalp-ill flexi chain stays, you could have a bike with a really plush ride. Prolly the same UCI ruling that put paid to the Trek (sp?) beam bikes prevents doing away with the seat stay.
  3. Wasn't there a Cervelo a year or two back with super-skinny seat stays? That was what I thought of when I saw the Phew-gee.
  4. Geez, what is the Hub coming to. Standards really are slipping. I cannot believe that nobody has mentioned the single biggest drawback to painting spokes.... THE WEIGHT!!!!!!
  5. Clint, relax. You had your answer several posts back. As long as threads don't descend into personal acrimony, who give's a rat's bottom where they go? Anyone for a cigar?
  6. Are we reading the same forum? Aggro? Insecurity? What are you talking about? Big H hasn't posted for days now!
  7. Yessss!!!!! Old age and cunning wins again! Don't forget chocolate milkshake for a "scientifically formulated" recovery drink.
  8. As I thought...tree-hugging, off road riding nature freak. Probably wanders around wearing a muesli shirt and home-crocheted lentil sandals. Good grief...it's worse than I thought...
  9. Pah! You just stop your goody goody, namby pamby, hoity toity, ispo facto, la-di-da fannying about!
  10. Dude! You should know better than that. You wouldn't ask somebody to pass their wife...or worse yet, ask for a turn on their bike. So why, by all that was Holy would you go and ask a question like that? :shakes head in stunned amazement and sips beer:
  11. 1. Don't take anybody's post too seriously. 2. Don't say anything in a post that you would not say to a stranger you'd just met, standing around a braai. 3. Re-read point 1.
  12. I wouldn't change a thing. But I would give them a digital watch instead of an analog for 2 reasons: 1 - No learning required to read it. 2 - When the battery dies and the watch stops, they will know it. Good luck with getting home on time.
  13. Dude, you so do not live up to your Hub name! Nylon is a great idea! Cheap, light, easy to mould/machine and won't harm or be harmed by the chain.
  14. One of the options is your dream bike, and it's in your size. What was the question again?
  15. Over in the 'for sale' section there are some lovely looking anodised aluminium chain catchers. They look good, as anodised alu always does, but WTF? Is this a problem in the real world? Surely if your chain keeps falling off there's a problem that goes deeper than adding some pretty anodised alu? In 20 years of varying degrees of enthusiastic weekend warrioring, I don't think I've ever had problems with chains falling off. Then again, I don't use Viagra either. (This post brought to you by my good manners - it didn't seem right to ask these questions in somebody else's for sale ad.)
  16. First "2" means multi-day event. Second "2" means second level. "." means bit that goes in the middle. So a UCI 2.2 event is a UCI second level multi day event. By contrast, that major event, the Tour of Britain is rated 2.1.
  17. Very, very unlikely that the chain or cassette is defective. More likely that something is out of adjustment, or possibly the derailleur hanger is bent, so that the rear der is not being held perectly straight.
  18. If I was making any claims (positive or otherwise) your comment would be spot on the money. In every post I've made in this thread, I've made it abundantly clear - or so I thought - that I was addressing the topic from an emotional and subjective point of view because the OP was undecided between the three options. You stated that the whole Italian gruppo on an Italian bike is bullcrap. And it is. In fact, this whole grown ups riding bikes thing is bullcrap. But it it is fun. Just about every choice we make with bikes is really an emotional one. Tires, frame, gruppo, the jersey we wear, bidons vs. Camelbak, all of it. If a brand doesn't resonate with you you won't enjoy it. That doesn't make it a bad product, just one that you have no interest in using.
  19. If the cassette is worn, replacing the chain only will cause the new chain to wear to "fit" the shot cassette in double quick time. You can change the chain only if you do it before the cassette is worn. In this case, change the two together.
  20. I haven't ridden any of the SRAM gruppos. I have no doubt that by any serious measure, they are every bit as good as Shimano or Campagnolo. After years of riding Shimano 105, when I got my current bike I upgraded it to Record 10 speed. I absolutely love it, I've never had a difficulty with the way it shifts and I kind of like the way shifts sound like a gunshot going off. I've read about people with the Campagnolo logo as a tattoo. But I can't imagine anybody with the Shimano or SRAM logo as a tattoo. That is the difference! Like I've said many times before, if you're not being paid to ride your bike, you really don't need anything better than Tiagra (or equivalent from other brands). If you want better and can afford it, fill your boots! Italian bike brand...Italian gruppo. What's to think about?
  21. Don't trust a bunch of Interweb wise-asses with this! Heck, don't even trust me. Get checked out and get a physician's professional opinion.
  22. Bianchi might as well be made in Darkest Peru...it remains an Italian brand. The "something about Campag" is igzackerly what everybody in this thread is talking about. As cyclists, we're a bit fringey. So, are you ready to be on the fringe of the fringe? If not there's always....sorry, dropped off to sleep there...*yawn* Shimano.
  23. 220 - age will give an average max HR. Use that if you buy your shoes and clothes based on finding out what the average is and just ordering that. Thought not.
  24. Assuming Binachi is some secret code for Bianchi, which is an Italian bike brand, I think that there can be no real question here. In all honesty, there is no real, functional difference between the different gruppos. But Campag has style points that the others don't have. You can lock the thread and place the order now. Glad I could help. B)
  25. The carbon ones feel much more plush on your face. The alu ones are so harsh they will make your teeth fall out. Everybody knows!
