    Nice one Henning!

Just an FYI, the R1800 pass gives you access to way more than just Helderberg and surrounds. It includes some trails in Paarl, Wellington, Boschendal, Banhoek, Bottelary, Oak Valley, Jonkershoek and more.
Many happy miles and have fun!

Is this still the case for 2024?

  2. Great idea - I would make use of such a service.

Your price seems good and I would charge a bit more for gear/brake sets.

Ideally you would position yourself close to the trails so riders can make use of this straight after a ride. (Maybe joint venture with a coffee shop nearby?) I would leave it or do it myself if it can't happen directly after my ride - might as well then just go to LBS and have them do something else too. Love taking a clean bike home after a big day out.

It would be great for this service to be offered by someone skilled for the job. Like every padstal now offering bespoke bean to cup coffee with a completely untrained "barista", too often places (even some LBSs) offering bike washes have everything they need but an unskilled person doing the washes. With the price of bikes I want someone to do it properly. A guy standing there with a pressure washer full blast 1mm away from the fork seals and then lubing it up like a Brazers Bonanza. Can't deal.

This is just me though - other people would possibly bring in their bikes on a Monday like someone mentioned.

FYI - in response to Steady Spin:

The Ion KPact are probably the best available but are DH worthy pads and pretty warm for just riding around. The 661 Recons are almost useless  - I have a pair and don't bother with them. The latest version may be better but all the flimsy sleeve type pads can move on your leg, Couple that to a grippy rubber outer and they get pulled off the area they need to protect in a crash. Any pair you get should have a kevlar/ aramid fabric outer cover to prevent this and make them durable. I see CCS is now importing 7IDP protection - they make some good looking pads.

Sorry I have the K-traze or Lite - not sure what it is called, but the lighter one with a zip.
Remember choosing between the two and the KPact was way too bulky for the riding I do

Knee and elbow pads should be fine for easy trails. But wear what makes you feel comfortable. Also know, that no matter how many pads you wear, it still hurts when you meet mother earth

    100cement
It is just the difference between moaning to the Mrs beer in hand after a slam or having to ask her to take you to get stitches at the ER
    lol

  5. I use kneepads on almost every ride. Minimal extra effort and impact on feel during a ride, but so worth it every time you go down
Use to have G-Forms (those yellow ones - proper ninja turtle) which you forget you are wearing after a bit and bearable in Boland summers.
They offered decent protection - had a few slides on them.
I now have the Ion K-Pact Zip which I think is a great design.
I zip them to the downtube for the flats/climbs and put them on for downhills which works great
Been lasting for >2yrs now so pretty decent quality.

Also have the 661 Recon Knee Pads which are similar to the G-Forms albeit a bit less protection in my opinion. Sometimes wear them in winter under long pants.

Use to wear elbow guards after slamming hard and getting stitches
Troy Lee slim pads - still have them but they are quite shite
Looking to get Leatt Airflex Pro for the elbows

    Hi Hubbers,
Went up Jonkers this AM via Irish - so lekker
Stopped to take in the awesomeness and recalibrate before the race of the rat kicks off another cycle...
Almost at the end of Armageddon I realise I forgot my glasses between Irish 7 and the last black climb section to saaltjie
Had no time (or energy) to go up an retrieve it - informed the lady at the gate if someone might return it (wishful)
(Actually noticed it in one of the pics I took)
Anyway....if by some miracle.... D'Arcs photochromic sunglasses - holla at me please
    By voorbaat dankie
    Many thanks
    Warmest of regards

Went back this AM and.....glasses gone, nothing handed in at the gate either.
Anyway, was a lekker ride nonetheless. Conditions were prime

    Hi,

Looking for those rubber inserts for Thule Wingbars or suggestions for some alternative solution (silicon?).

I bought the bars on the Hub and they never had those rubbers and I reckon that is where most of the noise comes from when driving above 80km

    Thanks,

    Cheers!

Had an extra roll of rim tape I bought (@Rapide) in 2019 - strong stuff. (Put a small piece on the downtube of my FuelEX where I suspect there use to be a plastic covering more than a year ago and been through mud rain many washes and still holding up perfectly.)
On the Wingbars - Been holding up 100cement for a few weeks now with a bit of rain and sun - works perfectly and only I or someone close to 2m can see it and doesn't really look bad IMO
Will just reapply as needed going forward.

I have my Pike working very nicely with the following methodology (start with everything full open):

    20% sag

Rebound set so the wheel doesn't jump off the floor when doing a big fast compression

HSC backed all the way out then one click in

LSC at 12 clicks from full closed. I found a nice spot where it help me up under braking, but wasn't too soft

Try a xSixx Foamo. Pretty light for the wide single ply version and should help keep the rims in one piece

Tried these recommended settings this AM on Armageddon (Jonkershoek) - felt very decent.
I added a few loose PSI's so I'm just peaking over 100 (RS recommends 110-115)
The forks felt stiffer less plush over rocks but experienced less (perceived) arm pump and had a very lekker decent.
O-ring sitting pretty underlining the DebonAir signage after the ride which I feel is a win.

But, do you really need to use all the travel?

I would definitely like to use all of it if I can - it is just a 140mm
Call my crazy but I get a sense of accomplishment when the red o-ring is right below the Debon Air inscription after a lekker ride haha

Will phone a friend to help me confirm amount of tokens and proceed to remove and test as recommended. (not a great maccie myself)

So bigger negative air chamber. That means the fork sucks down into its travel a little more than the new one and should be more sensitive off the top. It does mean you might want a bit more air pressure than the suggested chart pressure to keep the midstroke nice and supportive. Maybe 115PSI?

    Thanks!
Bear with me here, but the reason I go down to ~100psi is that it feels less harsh and I actually use most of the travel when coming down e.g. Jonkers etc whereas it felt quite harsh and I noticed that I hardly used all the travel  and on a 140mm I want use as much as possible.
    Is this logic flawed ?

Ah OK great, will definitely try it out on my next ride and give feedback
I reckon I am around ~95kg with kit and RS recommends ~110psi (which I find too high, I run ever so slightly under 100) rebound -7 clicks
The fork is still stock standard/factory settings and according to RS 2 tokens (I need to confirm this myself)
Will implement the above and see - I am a set and forget type so every time I attempt to fine tune the LSC/HSC I tend to mess it all up

Wow its quiet around here... Anyone else found that RS forks overstate the air pressure to rider weight? I'm in at least the 85kg range but I find the recommended pressure way to high. I'm currently around 55psi in my Yari with no tokens!

I have experienced the same on my Pike Ult
Any advise on the dark arts of setting the LSC and HSC
I get it right every now and then but mostly not lol I see now this was posted in March (still relevant to me though)
