  6. Would someone please educate me, I am a very novice when it comes to pro cycling. Why did so many riders cycle yesterday's stage without wearing cycling gloves? Even Tadej Pogačar did not have gloves on.
  7. Spot on! Just before the last couple of big hills on way to the N1/R59 bridge. I recently had some work done on my road bike, and had the cluster replaced with a 11 -28, doing away with the 11-25. What a major difference the 28-tooth cog made on that uphill compared to the 25 that my bike had. Much better for an outoppie of 61 years.😁

  13. As a first line of defense, what about this cheapie solution from Temu? Locators Pets/elderly/luggage/carry Bags/wallets Keys Smart - Temu South Africa I obviously would not trust something like that for a very expensive item, but may just work for my 13 year old road bicycle.
  14. My current bike is the best one! Pinarello FP Quattro, purchased February 2011 as a "To Dad, from Dad" birthday present in the UK while I was there on a training course. Full Ultegra groupset. Recently serviced and components replaced. Feels like a new bike after the recent TLC.
  15. I have mostly used cycling kit from Anatomic in Parys. I started cycling ±22 years ago just before I turned 40 and realised I was becoming a couch potato. I turned 61 in February this year. Since then, I have never had any of the issues mentioned by others. The only time I had a bib go transparent, was with the aid of the road tar after being side-swiped by a car whose driver ignored a stop sign.😜 My cycling clothes are washed by my wife together with our other clothes, normal automatic washing powder and fabric softener added, not special treatment at all. Maybe I do not cycle enough to get my bibs to wear through, last year I did about 150km short of 6000km for the year. My longest ride usually is the RideJoburg, and on weekends I cycle to Parys and back to Sasolburg, a distance of just over 80km.
  16. I gave the bike shop a specific amount below which they may do as they deem necessary. They called and discussed everything above that amount and asked whether they may proceed. Some items probably could have been skipped till the next service, but I had some cash put away for this "big" service and knew that a lot had to be attended to.
  17. Thanks to all commenting. Some feedback to clear up some confusion. The chain was replaced after about 12000 kms. I think I did not do too badly on it. The chain was cleaned and lubed regularly. The chain was last replaced on the previous service in 2021. The cassette lasted longer, deemed not necessary to replace with the Oct 2021 service. Similarly, the BB lasted the same 12000km and was replaced on the pervious service. The chainring and derailleur pulley wheels has never been replaced since I bought the bike in 2011. The derailleur hanger was replaced after the bike mechanic discovered it had a feint crack, possibly due to a fairly resent fall. I appreciated his attention to detail for picking it up. My main point for the post was just to emphasize how much cost of living escalated over the years, hence comparing the service cost to what I paid for my first car in 1983. I went on a short, but extremely cold ride early this morning to test the bike out, and I must say, Massimo at URCycling did a stellar job servicing my bike. It felt like new whilst cycling this morning.
  18. I have a Pinarello FP Quattro That I purchased in the UK when I was there for a course. It was bought at an "end of season" sale, and it was marked down so much I just could not resist buying it...😁 That was February 2011. Full Ultegra 10 speed groupset. I took my bike in for a full service to my favourite bike shop in Vanderbijlpark, URCycling. The last time it had a full service was in October 2021. Yes, I know I should be doing it more often, but life happens. Anyway, I went into my LBS to collect it after leaving at them for a week. Total cost was ±R7000!😬 When I paid for the service and replacement parts I thought to myself, I bought my first car after starting to work in Sasolburg more than 40 years ago and I then paid R5995 for it. Now to service a bike cost more than what a small car cost at that time. Admittedly, a lot was done. That amount included the full service, both brake housings and inner cables was replaced, both shifter cables and housings were replaced. Both the derailleur pulley wheels were replaced, the hanger was also replaced. I did not notice it, but it had a small crack in it, possibly after the fall I had when a car sideswiped me when the driver ignored a stop sign. The BB was replaced, as well as the front big chainring. The cassette was replaced and the chain too. Most of the part replaced was original Shimano Ultegra parts, except the BB, which was replaced with a Token one. The last item that was done, was the replacing of the handlebar tape. I am now super stoked to go for a ride tomorrow morning to feel how it behaves after all this TLC it's received!🚴‍♂️🚴‍♂️

  20. I recently also had to interact with Garmin due to my Edge 130's battery not lasting long enough. From the date I first sent them an e-mail, till I finally had a replacement Edge 130 Plus took about 10 days. That included courier times. The battery cannot be replaced, and I was offered a new Edge 130 Plus for R1500. The e-mail addresses I used to communicate with them was: Product.Support@garmin.com and ServiceevaluationZA@garmin.com On both e-mails I got very quick response each time I communicated with them.   21. Same symptoms mine had before I eventually decided to send it in and had it replaced with the Edge 130 Plus a few posts back. For a short while I used my trusty die-hard Edge 500.
  22. I also had an Edge 130 of which the battery only lasted less than 1 1/2 hours. I contemplated replacing its battery, but at that stage I could not source a suitable battery. This happened before this thread was started. I decided to go the Garmin support route, sent my Edge 130 to their Rosebank offices with a courier service. They advised me that the battery indeed did not pass their tests and said they can offer me a new Edge 130 Plus for R1550. This whole process took about 10 days, from sending it in to receiving the new Edge 130 plus, delivered with a courier.

  24. Summer and winter. Its uptime has gradually been declining the last couple of months. I think the final nail in the coffin was when I was side swiped by a car that ignored a stop street that caused my Edge 130 to crash onto the road after me falling as well.
