  1. today was a clear case of "the beetle falling off the cork!" hahaha did you see the lump on his head after? " i am going to get that man....then...i are going to get his hemp and frow him with the floor and then...i are going to be head butting him from the rear!" ahahaha what a pearl!
  2. Update 13 June 2011: Competition Commission withdraws cycle industry price-fixing complaint. Press release here: http://www.thehubsa....xing-complaint/ ----------------------------------------- so i been watching the whole price fixing thing with some interest as one of the shops, well ok actually two were on my local lbs store list. I bought my bike from the one in fourways and after that was treated like a t!t by they so moved to a shop just down the road from me and was really impressed, even joined their club, nice guys but again certain areas of service left some to be desired...but thats not the point of my post. I been in Kenya for busniness and was there when this whole ugly price monster showed its head. I been in the market for a new stead for a while but cause i travel a lot have not rushed into anything. So i go "window" shopping today.... first shop....my club..."local" bike shop..... I know 2011 bikes will be out around november blah blah blah move the old stock blah blah blah......certain bike I been lookig at on and off suddenly on a masive sale...down 10k.....as well as most other bikes on the floor. bike i was told " we dont do discounts, you will get your 5% as club memebr" are now " lets talk prices" so off I go up to fourways to have a "look" at what they got............ I am hoping that what ever happened to that shop is just temporary! i have heard of saving space and cutting costs, but to try and fit that entire store that was in a large space into that little window shop is not going to work. which will be a shame, because if you are anything like me you like to touch stuff and as one hubber put it a while back "go into bike shops and lick stuff". I got me thinking....has this price fixing thing already hit these guys hard? and just how much of a difference was this price fixing making to us the buyer? funny thing and not sure if related but stopped in at the Toyota in fourways and noticed a Porshe cayenne with "certain cycle shops" plates on for sale, moved to a RAV 4 apparently.... I dont know enough about the cycle industry to be able to know what these guys make on a bike, i am blessed and fortunate enough to look at top end bikes when i look, but not for one minute did i think they were making enough to go down 10k on prices. Being involved in mx and quad sales a few years back I know that even on those there is very little profit on the sale of the bike, most money coming from the services and kit after. So my long.....long winded question is, will this actually make a difference to us the consumer? surely if these "big" guys stop buying the volumes they do from the international suppliers, they going to look at making it back on the smaller order shops?
  3. i would say you can get out of clipless faster than toeclips, youshould maybe look at the following type: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=19411 dual side, normal pedal teeth on one side, clipless on the other
  4. chap why dont you just make the pedals very "loose" so you can unclip fast. it does not take long to get used to them, if downhill rider are running clipless it tels you something
  5. ducktape and string
  6. yes, but I heard their prices have been fixed so might as well wait till one gets put on gumtree
  7. Mr P cycling shoes? if they anything like the quality of their clothes im not surprised they broke.
  8. I agree with you 100% I saw one with the sticker on the down tube all crooked, terrible build quality, all chunky... my last 2 cents to this topic, certain brands appeal to certain riders, just as some people like toyota's and some like hyundai's or bmw and merc. I doubt Silverback would still be around if they made crap bikes. My comment earlier about build quality was not correct and I should have used "cosmetic finishing", so I appoligise for that. maybe it was just the two that I saw. I think for a south african company to come to the party and sponsor a team is something to be applauded! if certain members on that team doped that has NOTHING to do with the bikes they ride.
  9. I agree it wont affect handling or ability, like i said earlier when compared to another bike of the same value its finish was not of the same quality. if you like the brand buy it, i dont own one, I have ridden one and it would not be fair for me to comment on it cause I ride a bike at a much higher value and spec.
  10. yip ephedrine def does dehydrate you very fast. I raced quads at a national level for a few years and we used to take it for the long nationals (before it was banned and we knew better) A lot of downhill riders use the stuff. Epinepherin is used by bodybuilds just before they show, before they do their final pump session, it pumps up the veins and gives a bigger pump. Not sure if you have ever seen that clip on youtube of the bodybuilder who has a heart attack on stage? (ill try find it) that is from Epinepherin. not sure why he would want to use it for cycling though? would only be bennifitial for a sprint or break away on a climb and even then getting the timing of it would be hard. Your body uses more energy when it is in a state of increases adrenalin so for a long race it would cause him to blow. Problem with juniors is that they take advice from someboby who heard something from somebody who "knows" something....dangerous
  11. sure, i found the welds to be pretty chunky and rough, I guess more of a cosmetic thing than a build quality thing, but as I said in my other post, the models they had were not top models.
  12. have agree with you 100% I have two mates who have the full sus xc, not sure which one, think they paid about 18k for them, when compared to the merida 96 1000 which at the time was similar price the build quality was chalk and cheese. Not sure about their higher level models. you get what you pay for
  13. I have been shafted by both the mentioned stores more than cajee's! even joined a club of one of them being promised riding jerseys, rude mag subscriptions and a MASSIVE 5 % discount!! all advertised. All i got was a 5% discount on over prised stuff, no jersey, no ride subscription!
  14. thats what i was told, he is going to include a tiny mirror and call it a PowerLance
  15. I must have heard a different one to you then, 5:30 this morning he say "does not surprise me, cyclist are all cheaters anyway, why should their shops be any different" LOL
  16. His pharmaceutical dealer..I mean sponsor must be p!ssed!
  17. Where do you buy this in SA?
  18. I buy both and Tread, Tread wins hands down for me. Bicycling is the same as menshealth, the same articles and tips repeated over and over just with a slightly different look. I buy it to look at the pictures and the scratch and sniff section
  19. i had to laugh! their spam, i mean email, said something about "taking the market by storm" or something along those lines, so i had a look at their site, looks pretty good, but i was left wondering how they are taking the market by storm with the limited number of products they sell
  20. where do you buy Indola bibs? found a web site but its down
  21. flip! I got no friends! why do you guys hate me? is it cause im fat?
