  1. And the chemicals (Mr min and dishwashing liquid) will be fine on the paint work?
  2. Hey guys! My new bike is a beautiful white carbon matte finish. I have quickly learnt that the white picks up dirt and marks super easily - she needs a clean after every ride! What do you suggest I use to clean the marks off, without damaging the frame, or affecting the colour?
  3. I am going to sound like a real n00b now, but i really didn't know this! Thanks for the info
  4. ^^^ this!!! I truly thought I was the only one who experienced this. I have pretty much the exact same swimming background and experience. When I first got into the open water on race day, I didn't necessarily panic, but my muscles seized. I couldn't get a rhythm going and every time I breathed, I swallowed water. The waves and chaos then made me panic. I assume the best way to overcome this is to practice swimming in the open water. But I am a little weary of doing that after my last open water swim :/
  5. actually doing that today
  6. Imma just leave this here ...
  7. So, I bought a thing today
  8. Yes I did. Unfortunately, the event wasn't listed in their calender so I had to do a manual claim.
  9. Still waiting for Disco to 'approve' the points for my triathlon on 24/9 if they don't approve by midnight, I don't get my weekly reward... how convenient for them...

  13. Welcome Jay! Your wife is a very smart woman Many safe miles
  14. Yes, wetsuit compulsory swim. But still, icy cold!!!! A number of people found the swim to be tough, so I felt a bit better about that- at least it wasn't me and my training. So, I have a fitbit blaze, but it isn't waterproof I decided it wasn't worth the time to put it on during transition. But hey, you live and you learn. I have been considering getting a proper tri watch, but they are expensive (well, I have expensive taste). The watch is going to have to wait a bit because I am upgrading my bike bike it more important in my opinion
  15. Ok, this is my first time writing a race report, so please bear with me... So the MiWay Cape Ultra triathlon took place on Sunday 24 September at the Theewater Sports Club in Villiersdorp (literally just outside of Franschhoek). The dam is at 25% capacity, which was enough to swim in. On a side note: guys, when you see how empty the dams are  you understand why there are such strict restrictions. Weather was overcast and chilly! The temp at the start of the race was 8 degrees. There was a bit of a wind, and water temp was 14 degrees... which was a horrible lie! More like -14 degrees!!! I did the sprint, so I can only account for the sprint routes, not the 70.3 routes. Anyway, the first race was supposed to start at 7.15. Everything ran late for some reason- the organisers didn't let us know why. The swim start was a waist deep swim start and the water was icy cold. The moment my body was submerged, every muscle in my body seized. I saw a guy tap out after 100m. The best way to describe the swim is frantic. About half of the competitors were swimming backstroke because the waves were insane. I swallowed more water than I care to remember. Once the swim was over, it was the loooooonngg trek to the transition zone- from the water to the transition zone was almost 500m! By the time I got to transition, I think I had used about 70% of my energy- just on keeping warm and battling the waves during the swim. The bike leg of the race was great. The route itself was not too challenging. The hills were not too steep, but enough to make you work for it. Unfortunately, there were crosswinds when I started, and headwinds on the return. Winds aside, the ride could potentially be a very fast one. The run route was through private farms. It wasn't a trail run and it wasn't a road run. I found that I wasn't used to running on that type of ground so my calves started cramping. The run didn't have hills per se, just a slight increase in gradient. Overall, the run route was quiet and fairly scenic. The volunteers were very helpful and cheerful. Overall, it was a well organised event full of gees. My only 'issue' was that there were no distance markers on the ride or run. Maybe I am just weird and need to see them for my own sanity. Despite a few hiccups, it was a great race
  16. Guys, I did my first triathlon on Sunday ???? so glad to have popped that cherry! Now to get faster ????
  17. I am looking to rent a wetsuit for my first tri- any suggestions regarding companies that do this?
  18. You can try Cycle Teknix in Kenilworth
  19. Look for shelters that rescue those breeds. To start: http://germanshepherd.rescueme.org/za http://www.collierescue-capetown.com/
  20. I was concerned too, as my saddle is level with my handle bars. Found out that there is nothing wrong with the setup, as long as you are comfortable
  21. Fruit and veg tend to have specials and the prices are fairly decent. Else, buy in bulk
  22. Holy cow! Those are some impressive times!! I see what you are saying
  23. I think that there is a difference between sprint/olympic and half /full ironman. Sprint and olympic is just that- a sprint, whereas the half and full ironman distances lend themselves towards endurance. They are different skill sets. Don't get me wrong, I am sure they will be able to do whatever distance they want, but I feel like athletes at their level specialise (excuse the pun) in a certain distance and stick with it
