  1. My divorce was finalised yesterday. It was straightforward and uncontested with no minor children involved. The DIY process took a few weeks from start to finish involving 4 visits to the divorce court office at the Magistrate's Court to get documents, complete and return, copy and take to Sheriff, collect from Sheriff back to court, then the appearance. Total cost was R400 (Sheriff fees) and photocopies at Postnet. Overall the process is very smooth and the officials were helpful.
  2. Drinking and partying at the Hard Rock Cafe until 3 in the morning then a quick nap before a 21k race, still babelaas but functional after 5ks. And a beer at the finish. Only in the 80s.
  3. I also thought it odd. I imagine the aircraft was sold on by AA and that's the only photo that exists for that reg.
  4. Cant pick it up on my side anymore. Should mention also that it didn't display any flight info apart from the aircraft ID and origin (PRY). Maybe a diplomatic/CIA flight? That would probably be light?
  5. Picked this up on FR leaving Pretoria (PRY) this morning
  6. Or freeze it when the summer gets hotter. Works great on the bike, especially in longer races.
  7. And there I was yesterday, feeling pleased that I'd dragged my ass in at just over 2h17m. Bah! Maybe cycling is better after all. Bet I'd beat his time if I used the bike.
  8. This article suggests that walk/run is a smart way to hit your target, before your target hits you: https://coachparry.com/comrades-marathon-runwalk-strategy-bill-rowan/ But then again, as Mike Tyson said, "Everyone has got a strategy, until they get hit" Good luck with the marathon, if it makes you nervous now then it's a very worthy objective!
  9. Like seeing my weight drop, slowly and surely. About 7kgs over the last 3 months, with no real change to eating habits (okay, just no booze in the week).
  10. Just a quick follow up on this: My average pace has been around 6m30s over the 10k (which I'm doing 4x per week). Last Saturday I had an appointment and I found myself up against a time deadline to do the run, so I went harder especially on the hills. Result - broke all the 1k sector times and came in at a 5m:54s pace. Since then (apart from Sunday's long slow) my pace has been faster around 6m:10s without conscious extra effort. It just seems easier. So, while one swallow doesn't make a spring, I'm now optimistic that putting in a regular weekly hard/fast session to get out of the comfort zone might just move the needle. Edit: 500 posts! Almost a newbie no more.
  11. Fair question. But when you calculate the amount of stealth tax we pay in SA (school fees, medical aid, security, bailouts, etc.) then I think Denmark's tax rate becomes a non-issue. And they're really high on the Happiness Index, so it can't be that bad, can it?
  12. Reminds me of 633 Squadron. Great movie and I enjoy the theme music on Classic FM occasionally.
  13. How do you land a plane this hard without crashing? Hard landing yesterday morning in Ponta Delgada (PDL), Azores - Delta Boeing 757
  14. Very relieved that Dale Earnhardt Jr and his family and crew are okay after their Citation crashed on landing. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/plane-crash-today-dale-earnhardt-jr-wife-passengers-plane-crash-accident-today-live-updates-2019-08-15/
  15. Hi all Has anyone here tried these variations of the Keto diet, and what were your experiences? Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD)Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TKD) I'm intrigued by the variation with carbs, and I'd like to know more about it. https://www.ruled.me/3-ketogenic-diets-skd-ckd-tkd/
  16. I know how that feels! With me it's craft beer and artisan breads. But I've found this loophole called the Cyclical Keto Diet where you up carbs for certain events. And I figure it's okay to mention that on this forum because, "cycli..." https://www.ruled.me/3-ketogenic-diets-skd-ckd-tkd/
  17. I started out very easily on the C25K program, and in the first 9 weeks it ramped up up pretty gently. After that I did the 10K bridge, and I found that adding an additional 10K day and a long Sunday run (that one gets another 10% each week) was quite easy and comfortable. I was very surprised that I avoided any niggling injuries to date (there was a momentary scare with new shoes that had low heel drop causing calf pain), especially as I was clobbered repeatedly by ITB when I ran 30 years ago. Maybe because the very hilly area here mixes the run up a lot? One thing I am feeling now is the need to change my eating habits. I've dropped about 8kgs in the last 5 months, which helps the knees. However, with Myfitnesspal I've also been doing calorie limiting, but I'm starting to feel the effects of that in decreased energy. I did well in the past on LCHF, and while they say you shouldn't start a new training regime and LCHF together, I think I could shift to it now. I think I'll feel much better running on keto than limited food intake.
  18. If they are then there will be a very small baggage allowance for the liner. You'll have to carry some of your stuff as hand luggage.
  19. About 4 months. I think it's time to mix things up with a once a week session as you describe.
  20. Thanks, that's very encouraging! LMAO at "B groups in Mordor". Now picturing an Uruk-hai bus.
  21. The main objective is to qualify for and do Comrades in 2021. And I'd like to set a high goal for it, maybe a BR. So it appears that for that to happen I'll have to get a lot quicker. What worked best for me on the bike was hammering for hours on the stationary bike in winter, then riding with the B group until I didn't get shelled out the back anymore. With running, however, there's no B group and it's all up to me (which is quite Zen, really).
  22. Another noob question I'm doing 4x10k training runs (Tues, We, THurs, Sat) and a 20k on Sunday. Looking at the Strava "Cyclists with running problem" group, I'm becoming concerned that my average speed is too slow (~6m30s/km). My question is: Do you push harder in the training runs (the hills here in Lonehill are ugly, and I lack vasbyt)? Do you do strength and speed sessions (hill repeats, track) separately and let that find it's way to the training run speed? Look forward to your comments
  23. As a matter of interest, will Danish Oil work on Rhodesian Teak (not sure if that's the correct name, but that's what the seller of the furniture items called it)? Some of the pieces are kept indoors, and others (coffee table, directors chairs) are outdoors.
  24. AKA "confirmation bias" Humans create mental models of complicated things to help them process information faster, especially in high pressure environments. Their decision making processes are expedited by referencing these models. When your training for emergencies kicks in, you look for the patterns and models that matter most, and "smoke(?) in the cockpit" almost always means trouble. So, you do what your instincts and training tell you to do, and you accept the input data coming from your environment and mental models. And bug out, fast.
