  1. Hi all, need advice. Restarted LCHF last week Monday after falling off the wagon for more than 18 months. I never got back to original max weight, but another 6 months might have done it. After 10 days the hunger has (mostly) passed, and the Ketostix are dark purple. I understand that's not really definitive, and apparently they will be beige again when ketosis really gets going (also they're about 2 years old and way out of date, but I figure that if they're showing a strong positive they still sort of work). Now the thing is this: I've lost 1.5kgs in all this time. That's all! The last time I did this, I recall the initial week being way more dramatic. Of course a fair amount of that great weight loss was water, but for days on end I was dropping nearly 1 kg/day. This is very frustrating. I've cut carbs hard (not measuring, but excluding everything that looks like a carb). I'm keeping dairy to a minimum, except cream for coffee. No sugar at all. Also skipping breakfasts, and having Knorr stock cube soup with dab of butter for lunch. Dinner is minimal size (not much protein, leafy salads). Any ideas?
  2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B078WFKG2H Watched all of Grand Prix Driver (4 episodes) from Amazon this weekend. Well filmed, with a good story angle. Recommended. This series makes me believe that some of the problems with F1 today lie with the culture of celebrity (those drivers are pampered to the point of ridiculous, unlike the hard men of years gone by), and the corporate behaviour of teams (ass-kissing, butt-covering, endless meetings, chasing the money, etc).
  3. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3089388/ Watched Tim's Vermeer this weekend. Highly recommended.
  4. Thanks for this well-considered and mature response. Feeling better now?
  5. Finished Godless (great western series), now watching Hell on Wheels (so far so good).
  6. Thanks. No point continuing to watch now.
  7. I've also got it. Watched a number of them already, enjoying as much as I did back then. Surprisingly good video quality, considering it's age. Some shows from that era don't make the transition to big LED screens.
  8. Even with the Polish accent he keeps reminding me of Nacho Libre.
  9. And one more thing about "life after DSTV without Sports channels": There seems to be a number of ways you can get live sports. My favorite is sailing, and the coverage of the Volvo Ocean Race on the actual website is miles better than anything that the broadcasters have. Live updates very day, expert analysis, real-time position tracking, amazing live footage from the boats. The Dakar has also been good, following it every day on Red Bull TV. As for cycling, it looks like Steephill TV is going to be good for all the races this year (they also tell you where to find internet TV coverage).
  10. Got fibre at the beginning of December, said "bye" to DSTV at the end of December. Haven't missed it in the slightest. Mom can still watch Kyknet shows on Showmax, and I've downloaded about 1.2Tb on Plex with SABNZBD, Sonarr and Radarr. What a difference this makes. Spending less time in front of TV, and watching stuff that I like for a change. The 2 things that strike me most: 1. DSTV HD, isn't. 2. There's a vast amount of content out there. Too much, really. Anyway, back to the forum topic: Godless Lilyhammer Jack Taylor Blue Planet II My next guest (with David Letterman) The Vietnam War (Ken Burns) Appropriate Adult And looking forward to: Brittania (Sky Atlantic)
  11. Also capsized twice, and kept going. Respect!
  12. Thanks, and those sanding pads look more "skin friendly" than steel wool (tried tearing steel wool apart with bare hands once, got a cut from a rogue strand that I'll never forget!).
  13. @Le Turbo - seems simple enough, and that's usually the best advice. P.S. Like your tagline
  14. Can anyone advise me on how to restore a few Rhodesian Teak patio pieces (director's chairs, Morris chairs, coffee table)? They're about 25 years old and have been outdoors for most of that time. Some of them are very weathered, so I guess they need to be sanded back to bare wood, while others have countless layers of furniture polish on them and look dull (the red wood grain isn't very clear anymore). I'm guessing that once sanded (or steelwool'ed) they need to be oiled or sealed, but with what? I understand that Rhodesian Teak is not "Teak" so Teal oil might not be the right product?
  15. This has become my favorite thread since they culled the (original) Ladies and Bikes thread!
  16. I enjoy this thread - I really do. It's probably the random comments and images that make it so entertaining. But multiple replies re-displaying the same damned Winnie the Pooh pictures gets really annoying after a while.
  17. Local is lekker! Check out http://www.peterhanmer.co.za/gallery.htm
  18. I'm sure it wasn't deliberate. You know he has a problem with numbers (and dates are numbers too).
  19. Nice! I've always found that a Camelbak works quite well in these situations.
  20. That's where the bus wins. Nice warm bed when the weather plays rough. Did my bit of camping at Sterkfontein Dam in winter (windsurfing), and this would beat sleeping in a wetsuit in a tent.
  21. Great - I'm going to try that! Been mixing Nomu Skinny Hot Chocolate with Woolworths Double Cream yoghurt, and that makes a really good mousse.
  22. And those number plates are out in open view, so they've probably lost insurance cover as well. Claim form: "It was a taxi that hit me, and then he drove off without stopping". Assessor: "A yellow taxi, by any chance?"
  23. Craftsmanship
  24. Engines made of iron, and men made of steel! Now that was racing!
