  1. I used to be an Apple user from the iPhone 3Gs through to the Face ID era. I lost patience with - how long it took for Apple pay to come to SA - the endless connection issues between my Garmin and my iPhone so I jumped ship to Samsung and I cannot see myself going back. For premium priced products they are just too cynically handicapped for me to feel like both Apple and myself are winning in this transaction. M series iPad is more than powerful enough to give a desktop experience when connected to an external monitor, but no because it might cannibalize Mac sales. Multi user accounts would be great for iPad but Apple would rather a family of four have four iPads. No high refresh rate screens on a R20k+ iPhone 14, 128GB storage on a R26k iPhone Pro. Apple are protecting their product lines from each other. Steve Jobs had a very clear handle on this when he said "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will". I am not daft enough to say they cannot make profit but when a 64GB iPad Air exist for R13 199 and you need to pay R16 499 for the 256GB model which is actually useful it's bordering on ridiculous to point where I feel like Apple are laughing at their customers. With Samsung I feel like they are trying to give me the best possible product for the price and I haven't had a single issue.
  2. I really believe this is not for ultra athletes at all, it's about creating another price point for the apple watch. Apple rightly believed that if Garmin users were happy to pay R18k for a watch allot of Apple uses will too. Then the question is how to differentiate this from the standard apple watch and this is a much better effort than a stainless case or a Hermes strap so well done there.

  4. I wouldn't overthink it. Just buy a big bottle of something. Squirt, Finish Line etc.
  5. I'm quite sure you are right. Just would like to know why it's the other way around? I figured with much higher volumes there drive to maximize the margin on every bike would be higher. Titan prefers to offer more value to the customer instead which is why I bought one.
  6. I also have a Cypher and would buy the same again but I think for a big brand the Specialized price is fair. With the brand comes the expectation that the R&D and experience ensures that the geometry and basics will be spot on. This has been my experience with Specialized bikes, that they feel sorted. The downside with a big brand for me is economies of scale. If they can save some money on components it scales into big margins quickly whereas Titan can give you that full XT groupset without a huge difference to the company bottom line.

    Transbaviaans 2022

One person prefers a bike that's a nicer tool for him 90% of the time and a hindrance sometimes because he has to look after it a bit more. Another person will rather have something he never feels sorry for. Different choice but very individual and both fine.
  8. We can really acknowledge both points: 1. People don't need the most expensive bicycles 2. The scale of diminishing returns is very steep for bicycles
  9. Snap. That's what my Cypher came with and it works for me.
  10. You need to refresh your browser. It's 38 now.
  11. Really good vision and decision making from admin. BikeHub clearly isn't a place for people to defend their right to offend in the name of robust debate and that makes it unique in the current online landscape. They were happy to lose some users to stick to their vision and it worked out fine. The same mix of diverse and insightful inputs are on the rise again without the nonsense.
  12. Having ridden with a Varia for a long time you do miss it when you don't have it. Off course it will do nothing to save you if the driver is browsing Facebook and not staying on the road. Since this appears to be 80% of drivers now and I have a family to think of the road bike hasn't been outside in years.
  13. Suddenly load shedding seems like a minor problem
  14. The numbers of the tariff change might not be fair, I haven't studied them, but the concept makes sense. If you want to connect to the Eskom grid (powerlines etc) for when you need it, you need to contribute to the cost of it. I can't expect Eskom to maintain the lines and substations and keep them operational for me while I use very little actual units from them. It's a separate cost from the actual power you use.
  15. Thanks for the tips. I will definitely give it a few months before comparing with clipless again.
  16. I needed to know if I was missing out on flats. Really cannot fault the shoes but the first ride definitely wasn't what I was hoping. I have many unmaintained rocky trails here and felt I will be able to ride the dodgy bits that I walked on my clipless for fear of falling. In practice I couldn't maintain power to keep going on very rocky sections where I could power through using clipless so ended up walking more. Also find myself second guessing the foot position the entire time and wonder if the zero float is an issue. Will definitely give them an extended run.
  17. No I'm to old for that nonsense.
  18. Yes ACE there were some very ignorant insinuations made The 56kbs Big Black Box from MWEB came out in like 1995 already so just because we finished school in the 90s (97 for me) doesn't mean we're not at the cutting edge of the metaverse.
  19. Here's a summary of the previous attempt.
  20. I would like some form of smart login feature whereby it logs in automatically if my webcam sees my Specialized beanie.
  21. Don't tease please. I googled and cannot find this MTBRider2000 for XBOX.
  22. I don't wish the connection issue on my worst enemy. Its the reason I switched to Samsung after having iphones forever. I just couldn't get my 945 to stay connected and I haven't had a single issue in the almost 2 years since switching. (And I know most people have never had an issue with ios but that didn't help me)
  23. What concerns me is just how inconvenient a failure can be. My 945 failed a few months in and they replaced it. It failed during lockdown and the way life happened off late I can hardly call myself an triathlete and use the watch to look active so no big deal. But if somebody was lining up for their swim at an IM and their watch was dead it would be rather inconvenient. It's expensive and should be super reliable for it's target use.
  24. Probably because there are too many things outside of your control making it impossible to deliver an acceptable service level to the customer.
  25. Living in Somerset East so many of our parcels go to Somerset West. You would think postal codes would be enough for courier companies if the 800km odd between is not.
