  1. Well done Perez. I'm sure we'll hear about some mystery mechanical issue he carried that meant Max was actually 2s faster.
  2. Exactly. When there is enough money to be made or lost the excuses get a lot more complicated and difficult to refute. The same way it's more difficult to get Markus Jooste behind bars than a petty thief who stole a TV.
  3. I am using a 945 and I'm very happy with it now that I'm on Android. On IOS the Bluetooth connection to the phone was as reliable as Eskom. But I'm also on my 2nd unit. The sensor module on the first one died and Garmin replaced it. These things happen and switching to another brand won't be a 100% guarantee.
  4. Excellent race Lewis. What a champion and hoping for more great races in 2021.
  5. Shame and they were so strongly on the way to greatest team of all time status before the final in Japan.
  6. That is specialized marketing. We are super excited to present to you the bike we always wanted to build. We started with a blank slate and didn't rest until we found perfection. 3 years later That rubbish we sold you last year, forget about it, you'll be lucky to make it safely round the local park run course the geometry is so outdated.
  7. Let me clarify. I was told they have a small bike but can build the components over to a medium frame before I ordered. But when it came to building up that medium frame they had to scramble to find components.
  8. I've also burnt my fingers there. Bought and paid for a new bike only to discover the bike doesn't actually exist, they will build it up with a frame and parts from other bikes. The deal was good so I didn't mind at this stage. I just told them that I'm not a total clown with this stuff so don't send me the wrong parts. A few weeks later I received the bike with the incorrect stroke shock. Luckily I managed to swop that out directly with the bike manufacturer but it was a long process. If I had to choose again I would rather pay a bit more. The hassle was more than the R5k I saved.
  9. I permanently parked the road bike a few months back. I can't pretend it's a reasonable risk I'm taking with a wife and daughter at home given the complete disregard for law out there and every second person browsing Facebook while driving.
  10. Sorry ... My R50k would go to https://bike-addict.co.za/products/titan-cypher-comp-carbon-2021?_pos=1&_sid=fa4571cbc&_ss=r
  11. I gave up on my Garmin 945 with the iPhone, it just never worked. Reboot, reinstall, repeat whatever. The 5 minutes of hope with each firmware update that turns into disappointment.. Since I switched to a Samsung S21 it's been perfect all the time.
  12. I'm also the same height and weight and I ride a medium. Just had to change the stem to 70mm to be 100% comfortable.
  13. I don't think 1590g is porky. Faster rolling tyres running tubeless is all I had in mind for your test to match the slightly competitive nature thereof.
  14. TNT 29x2.35 57-622 Anthracite 745g 11A00017 Where to you get the 900g from?
  15. Thanks for your great review. I also find that the Cypher 120mm just tracks so well when the going gets rough. I'm well past the point of caring about times and racing so it's everything I need but I fully get why you would want something racier for your riding. It would have been interesting if you had swopped out the wheelset to something with faster rolling tubeless tyres for your ride as this seems to be the main sticking point.
  16. Thanks for this great review. I wasn't in the market but I still had the wrong idea, thought you can head out and quickly cover twice the amount of fun in the same time, sort of like a clean mx bike experience.
  17. I think both networks have collapsed to some degree. I often travel from the Eastern Cape to Durban for work, sometimes along the bottom of Lesotho, sometimes along the top through the Golden Gate. Vodacom used to be mostly fine but in the last year I have 10 dropped calls for every one that works and for about 70% of the route I barely have any signal. I have tried different handsets as well and I literally only have signal when I'm in the main street of a town. I tried to switch to MTN but after having no success with their sales department for two weeks I decided to stick to the devil I know. I don't care for 5G if they don't have a basic working 3G/LTE network.

    eSIM

I gave up on Vodacom esim and just changed from the iPhone to a dual sim Samsung. Now I get 60GB data a month for R299 as supposed to R99 a gig on a voice sim and the S21 120Hz screen make the iPhone feel outdated so no regrets.
  19. It rides very well for me but off course it's best to test for yourself. I came from a standard Epic so not having the Brain was already a substantial improvement and it's just very planted when the terrain gets rough. I bought it based on the if it it looks like a duck theory. I just can't see any massive difference in the suspension design between the Cypher and Epic Evo and the Cypher design is a year older so it's not an imitation either.
  20. This is a tough one. Bike Addict has the Empire for R90k which means it's closest competitor price wise is the Epic Comp and that's an easy decision. If another R20k+ makes no difference to the buyer that Evo Expert looks damn fine and has nothing that will need upgrading that I can see.
  21. I agree with most of what you're saying, there is no way Titan can command the same price as an S-Works. It is just that nothing exists in an economic vacuum and there is an R80k difference there. If people were saying I'd rather pay R130k for the S-Works I agree all the way. But people saying if you're gonna pay R108k you might as well pay R190k is not logical. EDIT But I don't want to argue with you as I agree to a large extent. I would take the R117k Evo Expert over that Titan. I dwell in the Titan Cypher Comp R50k market which is a different world and there is nothing from Spez for R50k that I would choose over my Titan.
  22. A S-Works with this spec goes for R190k. If the name on a downtube is worth R80k to somebody dan moet hulle maar betaal.
  23. Yes it is. From the interview with the designer. Many modern cross-country bikes are using a flexible pivot but you’ve shied away from that. Why is that? The Cypher being our first full-suspension carbon bike, we stuck on the safe side. Like the geometry, we didn’t want to reach too far into the unknown. The horst-link is a safe option from both a construction and suspension design. There is a slight weight penalty but the Cypher isn’t heavy, it is in the middle of the range. But the design comes with advantages too, like everything else in bike design, it is a balance of the whole system.
  24. You will just be paying a lot more for less bike then. I have a carbon Cypher and the build quality is right up there. All bikes have bad resale value, the more expensive the bike the faster the depreciation as there is a limit to what someone will pay for a second hand bike.
  25. If you sold a R60k item and there was something wrong you don't stop answering the phone because you weren't happy with the tone of the buyer.
