  1. a lion is not domesticated. When it comes to dogs I'll trust a big dog over a little dog, maybe its because I grew up with big dogs, but to me their temperament is much more predictable. Little dogs are noisy all the time, big dogs generally only show aggression when they are prepared to go through with it.
  2. I changed from a Giant Alu bar to a Giant Carbon bar last year, 130g difference between the 2.
  3. After it was recommended on another thread to someone else I decided to part with some money and buy the app. It picked up my bikes from Strava and I then started adding components that I wanted to track. 2 of the items I added were HR strap battery and Cadence sensor battery. These were changed just the other day, a few days apart but with no rides in between. When I go to the individual components, they both show the same rides as being linked to them, however, there is a 33km and 1 hour difference in usage between the 2.
  4. yes, in general. Ofcourse you will get the cases where its not the stereotypical owner, and in those case you will generally see a different behaviour in the dog. Yes certain dogs are more prone to certain behaviour traits, that is what they were designed for, but to label an entire breed of dog as dangerous just because they are generally owned by the type of people that make them that way is unfair to the poor animal.
  5. I dont like Pit Bulls, but these stats only show one side of things. There are many more factors at play in dog attacks than just the type of dog.
  6. Nice solo ride. After weeks of only commutes it was nice to get out and do some LSD, even if the wind was a bit rough in some places. And loving my free Versus socks
  7. The onedayonly prices are much better than what Merrell have on their website, but the wife vito'd the decision and said I should rather go to the cyclelab sale next week where I can atleast try on before buying.
  8. ^^^ This My wifes body has always acted strangely to the pill, so there were stages of persevering through the strangeness and stages of making sure the reverse thrusters were always primed and ready. After my last child was born the decision was made that enough is enough and I had the procedure done. It lifted a weight off mine (and our) shoulders. But, your body your choice. Everyone must make the decision that is right for them at the current time.
  9. has anyone tried the Merrel bib shorts ? I see onedayonly has them on promotion today.
  10. Just realized thats a Spez, see even the dog knows
  11. new topic my dog hates my cycling
  12. how good would it be if the next topic was "has anyone had the snip"
  13. It started with a few races where I commented to the wife that I did well and was sticking it to guys with machinery that cost 10 - 20 times more than mine. Then one afternoon when leaving the neighborhood i saw a garden executive on a bike that looked just like mine, I turned around and followed him to make sure it wasnt mine, the wife sitting next to me very confused as to why I'm staring at a commuters bike. When I told her its the same bike I have she then commented that maybe its time for me to upgrade. I dont need to be told twice.
  14. ^^^ what he said. lets take cars for an example as they have had disc brakes forever. In day to day driving, or even some spirited driving, unless you're doing something really hamfisted on public roads you will be within the design spec of your cars brakes and wont have issues. Take that car to the track and within a few laps the brakes are cooking (been there done that). But take a track car and drive it like an amateur and you shouldnt have a problem, stick a skilled driver in that track car and overheating brakes are not unheard of. What I'd like to know, how would rim brakes have faired in Pellauds case ?
  15. whahahaha
  16. Met my wife whilst I was hot and sweaty and dressed in lycra after a race, she obviously did not mind what she saw. We even took bikes with us on honeymoon. Since I've started increasing the amount I ride she is enjoy the changes to my body, both visually and otherwise. WIN WIN I do try and get out on the road early in the morning so that I have more of the day left to be with the family though.
  17. I was fine on my old steed, could never justify buying a new one, then a series of events that led to a comment from the wife that maybe its time to upgrade gave me an itch. One Sunday afternoon after looking at bike online I remembered a mate of mine that stays in your area had contacts at a bike manufacturer, popped him a message to see if he could find out about any demo bikes and next thing I knew I had a new to me bike sitting in my lounge.
  18. thats one heavy a$$ bike I used to think the same with my old steed, but the post above yours applies. Getting a new bike has made me want to ride more than ever
  19. I'm rather proud of my little 5 year old daughter too. 3 weeks ago, rode for the first time without training wheels. 2 weeks ago, stops, starts and rides on her own, so we went for a ride around the neighborhood together. last weekend, spent the weekend with my folks, hits the single track through the veld near my folks with her older sister and cousins.
  20. I just google this, looks brilliant
  21. damn I wish there was still one of those around me. I grew up knowing a hardware store to be like that, not these modern hardware supermarkets that we have now. BTW, the closest I've come to buying by weight recently is at Leroy, you buy a little packet, and then can put as many bolts, nuts, washers, screws etc. as you need into the packet. Shortly after builders started doing the same thing but at 4x the price.
  22. the only solution is for each one of us to build our own Berm Peak
  23. Greenstone has so much more variety compared to the boksburg branch. I'm walking distance from the boksburg one but I keep feeling disappointed when I go there. I'm spitting distance from the boksburg builders but I refuse to go there.
  24. The point of the story was that you dont just get guys not caring whats behind them on the trails but on the road too. I did not expect them to squeeze to the side of the road, but with us cyclists being taken out by cars all over the show an acknowledgement of the presence of a car would have been fine. As a cyclist I am aware of what its like being buzzed by a car, so I gave plenty of space and warning, these guys did not even look back. Who knows how the guy a minute or 3 behind me treated them. Right or wrong, the first first rule of cycle safety is being aware of your surroundings.
  25. Not just on the trails man. Yesterday morning the wife wanted to go to a nursery and get a few things, so I hitched up the venter with the bike racks on and off we head. Heading along a certain road in the area I see up ahead two "cyclists" riding next to each other, you can spot newbies a mile off. No big deal, roads are fairly quiet, but there is no shoulder and its narrow, so from about 500m off I do a quick tap of the hooter just to let them know there is a car approaching, not that they should need it as anyone that has ever towed an empty venter will tell you how loud it is. But neither one of the riders turned to look back, carried on chatting away. At this point there is an oncoming car that based on my calculation would be in the way should I move over to safely pass, so I re-adjust my speed to give me plenty of space to pass safely once the oncoming car is gone. Even alongside these guys as I'm passing, neither one of them bother to look over.
