  1. Cool. I think I’m going to give it a try

  3. Some days you’re the pigeon, some days you’re the statue
  4. quoting your post because this happened in the souf Around this time of year, a few year back, my dad got taken down in a hit and run close to the fire station on Swartkoppies. He managed to get up, and was folded over the bike trying to orientate himself and recover when my moms yoga teacher happened to be driving past, recognised someone in destress and turned around to go and help him.
  5. yes, MTB vs road, different risks involved and different accessibility constraints. One of the reasons I dont ride Suikerbos Rand on my own is due to cell signal in the area. Should I need help I cant rely on cellphone working.
  6. This is why I have 2 ICE contacts listed, on my phone (no need to unlock it) and on the 2 ICE tags that I wear (one on wrist and one on helmet). Also have med aid details listed on ICE tags, so in case of emergency there should hopefully be no questions at the ER regarding who will pay before they admit me. Touch wood I've not had to put it to the test yet.
  7. even more so if its part way up a climb
  8. I check mine daily. Because about a year back, checking mail using the mail app on my phone, I select all, then instead on tapping "mark as read" I tap the "move to junk" button. So now every so often a legitimate email lands up in the spam folder According to my spam folder, every major courier company has packages waiting for me to pay customs, every South African bank needs to me to login in and FICA, and there are a bunch of very rich people living in other countries urgently wanting to do business with me.
  9. In a friggin upmarket secure estate. flippen sack of excrement.
  10. in the shower with me straight after every ride. Helmet, gloves, sunglasses (because they get coverd in sweat), HR strap, Bib. The only thing that waits for the washing machine is the cycling top.
  11. Also have 2 rescues, also did not want either. They destroy my lawn and keep chewing anything that is left within reach. But their personalities exactly match the child they were adopted for, its actually uncanny. One is docile and kinda lazy, the other energetic and mischievous.
  12. you are not the only one, the lycra clad carrot slowly opening the gap is to tempting not to chase. slightly off topic, but still related. Many years back, doing the original Hyper to Hyper fast one. My mate and I were not exactly doing it fast on a particular stretch, we had been sitting up, cruising side by side, in todays terms we were probably sitting in zone 3 somewhere, having a fat chat. Next thing a particularly attractive lady cyclist came past us, very shortly afterwards I noted to my mate how our cruising speeds had increased with the lady in view in front of us.
  13. ahhh, ok, now it all makes sense. I was wondering how he was getting his sjambok out the passenger window.
  14. we've been fortunate in that we buy for the eldest daughter and that then gets handed down to the youngest.
  15. not sure if I missed it, but how was he shamboking you ? He should have been sitting on the right of his car and you on the left of the road
  16. my 8 year old is riding a 20" Titan, but the bike is starting to get a little small for her, her 13 y/o sisters 26" is a tad to big for her. The problem is, buying the right size means kido will get 3 years max out of the bike (probably only 2) before its to small. Buying to big and kiddo's confidence goes for a ball of .......
  17. That there sir is a gravel bike with flat bars
  18. I hope it didnt take you 10 years to fix the issue
  19. you're one crazy brave mofo Will see what my expected incentive actually comes back as this month and then make a small contribution. Need to save some of it for March. B.T.W. was thinking about perhaps trying to raise funds for a needy cause with one a two of my races, but have no idea where to start. What are the ins and outs of doing this ?
  20. Nothing against Uber as a concept, I think they are a great idea. Its more the SA drivers and Uber's no chalant responses that get me riled up.
  21. I'm yet to see a camera in an Uber (granted I very seldom use one). But I sell many cars to Uber owners and the owners mention nothing about installation of cameras. Have you seen what hidden charges get added to your bill when you Uber to an Airport ? These are not quoted upfront, but debited from your credit card automatically. Again Uber just shrugs their shoulders and offers a BS excuse.
  22. Riding. I wasnt as fit back then as I am now, so it was decently long enough for me, especially as the repeats added up.
  23. Up here in the big smoke my experience has been those with smaller cars are the biggest problem. And then on the other end of the scale, the side tipper truck brigade. But I dont think these are poor judgement but rather DGAF attitude, judging by the amount of crashes I see them reported in. And then lets not forget the white Fortuner brigade, but again they DGAF about anyone (stereotypically speaking)
  24. Everytime I read about these incidents, on the very roads that I ride on, I count my self extremely lucky.
  25. Too many hours spent on this hill doing hill repeats
