  1. SANParks also cautioned visitors to remain vigilant at all times and report suspicious activities on 086 110 6417. This does not say to me " We are trying everything we can to stop this nonsense" , it rather says to me "we are passing the buck to you to keep safe"
  2. I dont bother with the comments on these type of things, just makes my blood boil and its pointless trying to argue the facts in the comments section
  3. the words I want to say will just appear as stars on here. Sadly it not just cyclists that are feeling so helpless with our justice system.
  4. Thanks, thought maybe it was just on my side
  5. Is anyone else having trouble accessing thehub today ? Been getting BadGateway errors most of the morning.
  6. the other problem is the cost When Gautrain was first launched, I was working in woodmead. I did the math, it would be more expensive to use the train and take me longer to get to work. When i was in Greece a number of years back, you'd buy a single "public transport" ticket, if I recall it was dirt cheap, and for the next hour that ticket could be used for any public transport. So I'd jump on a bus, travel 10-15 minutes to the underground metro, jump on the metro to the middle of Athens, climb on a tram and get taken to within a few km of my destination, all using the same cheap ticket.
  7. also the taxi industry HATES any other form of public transport and will most likely sabotage anything new put in place.
  8. things break, its how the aftersales service is handled that makes or breaks the user experience.
  9. Is there an alternative route for motorised vehicles ? If so, they could turn the entire stretch of road into a boulevard of sorts, forcing motorised transport to drive at a snails pace thereby making it much safer for NMT .
  10. your phone's digital background blur got a little confused there
  11. actually come to think of it, maybe I SHOULD carry my smart phone, when they look at the negative balances in my banking app they'll feel so sorry for me they might GIVE me money instead.
  12. It’s this one
  13. Always knew of Greg and some of his accolades, but never really anything more than headlines etc. Yesterday I watched a youtube doccie on him, very interesting career, seems like a cool character. How many athletes can boast about being at the top of their sport for so many years? Taking knocks to the body like that at his age is also something. Respect. And why has nobody ever mentioned how stunning his wife is.
  14. a few years back I bought a small little phone off One Day Only. It about twice the size of a USB stick, looks like an old Nokia. I bought it to tuck into my bibs somewhere in case of getting mugged. Except I never bothered to get a sim for it so never used it. But its a good option to look at, cheap, basic, but usable to call for help and small enough to hide somewhere on you so that if mugged you "dont have a phone with you"
  15. Me too, also a data nerd, love playing with numbers, only recently found out about intervals.icu allowing the excel tracking and promptly went ahead and spent to many hours playing.
  16. 100% on the lifestyle if im not getting up early in the morning to train, it’s like I’ve not done a basic morning routine.
  17. I actually used to have a set of neoprene water skiing gloves, used once or twice on the bike many moons ago, I'm not sure where they disappeared to though. But all this talk about gloves have not solved my toe problem, "hand shoes" are not what you think they are
  18. yeah me too and since I found out that I can live link an excel spreadsheet to intervals.icu I also have a tracker running on there. More just to satisfy my tinkering spirit though.
  19. same happened to me with F1, used to watch it religiously, I could tell you lots of stats about my favourite drivers and teams, but then DSTV took it over from SABC, we didnt have DSTV at the time, since then I think I've watched less than a handfull of races and know very little about which teams and drivers now participate.
  20. "The fight is won or lost far away from the witnesses, behind the lines, in the gym and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights." Mohammed Ali
  21. I used to get very upset and irritable if I fell behind on the goal for the year, but over the last 2 or 3 years I've come to realise its not the end of the world, its my goal and not someone elses. This does lead to the occasional laziness to get on the bike, but I try and keep that to real reasons rather than just laziness though.
  22. The cold and the darkness makes it very easy to decide to just roll over and sleep a little longer. For me, I've got an ambitious goal set for the year, it means I need to train right through winter to keep the consistency up, or it will become a big task come warmer weather, to try and catch up. Even the week I spent off the bike with flu a week ago, had left me with a little catchup. Ontop of the goal, having a group that rides every morning bar mondays helps to know you are sharing the suffering
  23. I cant recall which manufacturer it is (possibly Volvo), but there is a vehicle maker that has added a safety measure that wont let you open the door if it detects oncoming vehicle approaching from behind.
  24. exactly, only pro and above, us peasants with poverty spec iphones dont get LiDAR
