  1. Thanks for a lekker ride @wesdrake I'm still fatigued and sore. A couple of points to maybe think about for the next one. * Think Bike Marshals - I was in group 3 (26 km/h). We had a little issue going up Allandale where one or 2 guys were getting fed up with being slowed down so that the group could be closer together. Words were had with one of the bike marshals. Unfortunately this bike marshal carried his aggression for a bit longer and when we detoured through Klopperkop he stopped us again and was rather aggressive in the manner in which he addressed us. I can understand the pressure these guys must be under to get us around safely, but we're all adults and some calm communication goes along way. *edited to add* I also felt the bike marshal did not really understand that we dont have engines to pull us up the hills, we need to rely on momentum. Having us holding the breaks going downhill when there is an uphill infront of us was rather frustrating. Instead the could have slowed us on the uphill to get the group to close. * I understood this to be a no drop ride, but we had 2 punctures in our group and the ladies were both told by others in the group to get on the support vehicle and fix the punctures whilst the rest of us carried on. A simple puncture should not disadvantage a rider like that, had we been riding for time then its would be a different story. Or had it been a bigger mechanical that would have the rest waiting for a long time then a decision could be made, but not for a simple puncture. Perhaps having a rider (or 2) allocated to control the pace and group dynamics might be a good thing. * 120km stop - I get that timing is tricky, but I felt that in order to keep the groups 5 minutes apart, the slower group got compromised on time at the stop. The result being a feeling of being rushed. * The Finish - now this one is possibly partly my fault. I, and a few others, rode on in order to get the full 200km, so we may have missed any communication etc. Once I collected my bags from the bus it was a case of asking around until someone was able to direct me to the showers. A quick icy shower, dropped the bags back at the bus and headed to the bar. I was able to get myself a drink and just as I started enjoying it we're told to head to the busses. I was not sure how to get my meal that I pre-ordered but decided I was to tired to eat anyway. I'm not upset about the meal, just felt again we were a bit rushed. Although given the time we arrived back at Kyalami I do realise we could not have left very much later than we did. On the above, could have been the fatigue, but I dont recall seeing a photographer. Maybe because I crossed the finish line late, I did not receive a medal. Again, it was a great day out on the bike (despite the unfortunate accident before Carnival City), if funds allow it I'll be back next year. this time with more experience and slightly better prepared. Thanks again
  2. Actually there seems to be enough steel in the BB to trigger the induction loops. our suburb put up booms a few months back, there was big debate about it not going to allow cyclists through and we should mount the pavement and use the pedestrian gate. but I’ve discovered that once the BB goes onto the induction loop the boom will allow me to open them.
  3. Gentle cruise into Paris
  4. imagine restoring that and using is for functions.
  5. at 12 bedrooms is that still considered a house ?
  6. might even be a better pic than what you get from ActionPhoto
  7. my problem with running errands by bike in SA is that store have made no accommodation for bikes, so there is not place to safely leave/lockup your bike. Otherwise I'd be doing plenty more by bike.
  8. apparently thats what these signs are for I'm also told this is max speed you're allowed to travel at and not a suggested speed
  9. out of curiosity really. the safety aspect is another issue. even in a car, just because the limit is x does not mean you should be doing the limit under all conditions. B.T.W. there is one piece of road, about 8km long, dual carriage way with a very wide emergency lane. Speed limit on that stretch is 80km/h, with a tail wind, if i can keep my speed in the upper 30s low 40s I'm faster than the cars sticking to the speed limit. Purely because they are stopping for red lights which, when timed right, change to green as I arrive at them.
  10. no trolling at all. The post was meant to spark discussion. I honestly did not know the answer. The no hands rule stood out in my mind after someone once posted the laws regarding cycling on here.
  11. back when I was in school the cops would also fine the guys for having loud exhausts.
  12. enjoyed that.
  13. they are illegal. As is taking your hands off the bars. and in contradiction to the last one, you have to use hand signals to indicate turning or stopping.
  14. or how much lunch money you have on you
  15. The question was about legality and not safety, to debate safety would need a long friday and an entire subdivision on bikehub.
  16. wasnt thinking 120, more like the 40/50/60 speed limits in urban areas or steeper downhills.
  17. This, https://road.cc/content/feature/do-cyclists-have-stick-speed-limit-303663 ,popped up in one of my feeds earlier and had me thinking ? Whats the SA law regarding speed limits ? I recall as a teenager, there was a certain corner near home that formed part of my daily newspaper delivery route. As it was a particularly problematic corner for motorists they dropped the speed limit to 40km/h. Traffic cops being what they were took great delight in trapping on the corner, the good old lines across the road trap. As a teenager trying to be clever I would regularly try and break the speedlimit on my bicycle to see what the cops would do, I was never stopped.
  18. like I said, dont know much about this stuff, so I need to take your word for it. I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating, only way to see if it works is to follow the plan.
  19. The problem with non pros entering the Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen is that we'd not have only 1 title sponsor so we'd have headlines like Fannies Slaghuis Georges Corner Cafe Ouzo's Aunty and Uncle from Athens Team places 18234th in stage 3 of the Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen
  20. was thinking the same, but I dont know enough about this stuff. I know my 5 most recent rides were not representative of my usual training as I've been winding down for saturdays big ride. But I'll give it another shot in a week or 2 and see what it spits out.
  21. looking at Francois marketplace, you have to wonder how much of the stuff he has on sale are stolen goods.
  22. @Dexter-morgan you need to add me to the WA group if you can, that way you dont need to forward me the messages. Now that its getting light earlier, I might be able to get up before the sparrow farts and make it to these rides. Even if its just one a week.
  23. Well hopefully this Francois chop also gets whats coming to him as he clearly knows he is dealing in stolen goods
