  1. All great in theory, but we know in practice none of this can or will happen. Firstly chances are the driver wont even stop, so unless you have a newer varia with camera then you have no way of identifying the driver. then the next hurdle is find someone in authority who is willing to use that info and do something about it.
  2. This forum software doesnt have enough storage space for everything I've done. But long story short, 15 years in the IT field, 12 years of doing other things, currently selling cars and want to get back into the IT field. But Age, Race and no degree means my CV doesnt get past initial screening phase.
  3. and what do you do with this information ? serious question, not trying to be funny or anything. I was thinking about it this morning on my ride. So now you have this info, how do you use it ?
  4. I used to firmly believe this. To a large extent I still believe this, but it would seem many companies and recruiters do not. As someone that has been looking at job listings almost daily for a very long time, even many mundane jobs are listed with having xyz degree as minimum requirement. Even if you have the experience to do the job, your CV never gets past the initial screening process because no degree. so if you have the will power to tackle a degree now, then do it.
  5. I'm actually very jealous of him riding there. The closest I've done to cycling in greece was as a youngster with my cousins cruising around the village on bicycles close to where these pics are taken.

I very much doubt your "almost no logistics" statement above.
  8. yah, no. Not doing 200k in 1 ride. It will rule out the rest of the days because I'd need to be resting.
  9. Its just a gun shaped massage tool. the one i bought was a cheap one and I'm not convinced it work as well as it should. But I still use it now and then. And yes, I think the intention is that you can use it on yourelf.
  10. AFAIK no. But as Jewe says, doesnt really matter, its a good challenge for me. Although I do like to have the virtual noddy badge as proof
  11. I am indeed on their WA group, will keep a look out for the rides. Will much rather do this in a group, like you say, much less effort involved.
  12. yeah, if the heat is anything like we're having now, I'll be trying to get out the door by around 4:30am
  13. just a tad on the slow and boring side, especially season 1, but I have been enjoying it.
  14. recovery on a daily basis. i.e. you've ridden what you need to for the day, what do you do to recover.
  15. yeah points 1 and 2 are the unknown factors. I know how tired my body has been after doing 160km in one ride, 947 took a bit to recover but I was deep in the red the entire race, if I'm doing these rides at a max of zone 3 then I should be ok. In terms of recovery, what do you guys do on a daily basis ?
  16. yeah, going to try and get my mate to join at least 1 day, also going to check if the local bike shop group rides have anything planned. forgot to mention, also need to leave some time and energy to spend time with my family, that is after all why i took leave. But I'm going to try and head out the door very early in the mornings, that way i'll beat the heat, as well as be back by the time the rest of the family roll out of bed for breakfast.
  17. Right, I've got it in my mind to do this. 25th is out, so that leaves me 7 days. My thinking is either, 1) 24th - 100km 25th - 0km 26th - 100km 27th - 100km 28th - 0km 29th - 100km 30th - 100km Or 2) Split it up over the 7 days, some days longer some days less. It will mean less rest days though. Doing more than 100km will probably mean needing a longer rest between. Already not sure how my body will be handling the consecutive 100km days. Any other tips for doing this ? I'm hoping the weather plays along and I'll be picking easy-ish routes.
  18. Only one close call this weekend. Sunday morning, Alberton, turning off the ring road near the new hospital, turn right, past the engen to head up to Florentia. To my left, heading through the Engen is a taxi, I predicted what he was about to do, and watched as he headed to the exit, directly infront of me. Because I knew what he was about to do my hands were already touching the brake levers, I was however hoping he wouldnt do it so I did not slow down in anticipation. But I quick grab of the brakes, a little sliding of the rear wheel and all was ok. He even apologized.
  19. Yes was bloody hot out there this morning.
  20. luckily I dont have money to spend. But some of those bike deals at CycleLab are pretty good.
  21. They get HEAVY, especially the wider aperture ones. My 24-70 f2.8 (non L) weighs a touch over 900g, add a DSLR with grip, and flash and all of a sudden your over 2kg in your right hand. Throw in a few thousand pics in the space of a few short hours and its hurts.
  22. when i was leaving I saw a number of security on horse back (might have been SAPS or JMPD, not sure). But clearly they were not to worried about chasing the scamsters away.
  23. I've been fortunate enough to shoot with a few different L lenses over the years and own a 70-200 f4 L , they are truly in a different league
  24. I'm rather chuffed, just got a message from my daughters school, they are officially opening their newly built pump track tomorrow. Right now its for the school kids only, hoping that down the line they open it to the public.
  25. 10 000%, First point of call would be your current doc, second point of call if you dont like what your doc says is a second doc. But I'm sure you know this and are just looking for some reassurance from people that have had similar. My un educated thumb suck opinion is that you should be fine. But i know sweet F-All about these things so dont take my opinion as anything but crap.
