  1. I've measure just over 96km without the new addition
  2. with a bit of margin for error we might be finishing on 99.9km then.
  3. there is a level of safety attached to the correct seeding too. Having quicker people trying to go for a good time mixing it up with slower people trying to have a good time means the quicker guys will inevitably take chances they should not be taking, some of the slower guys will want to try and stick with the quicker guys and perhaps not have the skills to match the speed. There are many reasons seeding similarly able folks together makes sense. For a race to get it so wrong 2 years in a row smacks of incompetence. Then there is the new race finish video for the 947 thats come about. Surely with 2 weeks to go, having a new race finish with some additional challenges thrown in should have been communicated. The pros want to know where they should position themselves for the final attack, the backmarkers need to know they should be prepared for a few extra km that includes a bit of climbing on tired legs. Either I've missed the communication about this or they has been none at all.
  4. We need to get a drone in the air there and catch these mofos. Tired of this ***
  5. what were the other 2 incidents. Some details please.
  6. havent seen anything to this effect yet
  7. certain big races mix it up. First x amount of batches are gun to mat, there after they revert to mat to mat.
  8. but we dont all start in one batch. So now you've dropped back 4 batches, how do they know this without picking your chip up at the start line. What about guys that decide to join the race between the start and the first timing mat on course ? They've now ridden less distance, perhaps even skipped a climb. If we're talking pros, maybe even Elites, then I'd agree with you, but the moment you have amatuers involved you should have a timing mat at the start. Every timed "race" I've done for the last 25 years has managed to do this, why change it now.
  9. Reading feedback from a number of events over the last year or more there seems to be many complaints. Everything from timing, to parking, to seeding etc. Are we expecting to much from organisers or are they dropping the ball ? And if its the later then why ? Have the costs spiraled out of control and organisers are cutting corners in order to host events ? Most of these events where the complaints are coming from are not new events, teething problems should be well ironed out by now. Inexperience cannot be blamed either. i know we have a number of people on here that have or still do organise races, as well as people that are well informed and or connected, so their input would be great.
  10. That is the biggest BS response I've ever seen. HTF do they not have mats at the actual start.
  11. nothing unusual. Make sure you're in a bunch down the M1, once you turn at Summit after Kyalami the wind will take you home. EpicRideWeather does not want to predict so far into the future
  12. Actually at one stage, for a few years, RaceTec would SMS you your result within minutes of finishing. There were a few CTCT where, by the time i got through the Medal and drinks chaos queues at the finish, i had my results SMS. Not sure why they stopped that.
  13. F@#$@#$@$ Sakes Looks like this is happening on Saturdays. Its time to catch these bastards and teach them a lesson. I rode there (on the road) yesterday. As did many many others.
  14. Was supposed to be a zone 2 ride. I was in the bottom half of zone 3 heading out, then on the way back, just past BRB, 3 guys from the local bike shop ride asked if they can ride with me. One of them had suffered a mechanical and they were dropped from the group. I decided that having company was better than trying to stick to zone 2, landed up riding in the top half of zone 3 to keep to their pace. lekker day out, legs haven’t hurt like that for a long time. Was really feeling yesterday’s flat out ride.
  15. could be a large building or cliff that we're not seeing in the photo. When I worked in bedfordview there is a Hotel on the opposite side of the road, they had 2 rows of flags, one on either side of the building, and under the right circumstances the one row of flags would face the opposite direction to the other row.
  16. but did you notice THIS wind sock
  17. Early morning intervals around the airport
  18. Is this the bike that was taken with Daniel's Felt ? Be sure to claim for the Wahoo and mount too. That bike got pretty banged up.
  19. was frustrated with myself the entire day because I decided to hide. Was up, dressed and had breakfast, then went out to get the bike and changed my mind. I should have just put my big girl panties on and ridden. 🤬
  20. @Daniel R how are you and your mate doing mentally after this ?
  21. hope so too. Made me hesitant to ride out that way again yesterday, between that and the weather I decided not to ride.
  22. For longer rides I strap a small power bank to the bike and plug the 130 into that.
  23. was this winter riding or in warmer weather ? My Edge 130 does 45 odd min in winter mornings (i resorted to just popping it in my pocket to stay warm), but seems to be able to do 3-4 hours in summer.
  24. I'm talking about Dexters training ride on saturday. NASREC to Woodmead was HIGH speed last year, I was spinning my legs off in 50x11 in the bunch.
  25. how long do you estimate it will take you guys to do the loop ?
