  1. Well done all! Very inspirational stuff. A definite bucket list type event.
  2. Counting helps with the pain. For me at least. Distracts my brain for a little while...
  3. I missed 7 days of training. Started again yesterday with an easier cycle and swim. Glad to report I am a little faster in the water. Must be all the rest. But holy cow, couldn't hold 80% of my FTP on the bike for longer than 10 minutes this morning. How long does it typically take to get back to pre-sickness performance? A week to two weeks? And have muscle soreness again that I have not had in a long time. I really, really hope this is my last sickness for this year. Hope you heal up quickly ICM.
  4. Can't believe how quickly times flies! Hope you all stay healthy and injury free. Looking forward to reading all your race reports next week. Will be cheering you guys on and thinking of you on my Sunday long run!
  5. What is your goal? At some point just swimming those distances at a comfortable pace will yield minimal results. You should look at building in some drills once you are happy with your endurance.
  6. Kind of sounds like a triathlete's long swim session in the pool...
  7. So, just to show progress, and that anyone can run (if I can, anyone can). This is my current 5k PR, which is done on a track: 7 Feb --> 43:36 3 Mar --> 40:09 3 Apr --> 37:20 29 Apr --> 33:24 7 Feb was the first time I had ever run 5km and had no fitness base. My training is: Tempo run on Tuesdays (around 5km) Track session with speed work on Fridays (usually around 6 to 8km) Long run on Sundays (longest run being 8km to date). Recently upped my program to the next level, so my program will be adding a Z2 run on Wednesdays. What are the odds I can shave off another 3 minutes in the next assessment?
  8. What about rather riding your bike or doing other sports which are less jarring on the body? Swimming is a great recovery tool I think.
  9. How do you guys warm up pre-race? I wanted to do a warm up swim or jog, but by the time the pre-race briefing was done, and the gun went off for my wave, it would have been pointless. Any tips?
  10. As a tri-athlete, I spend a lot of money on my sports. I am starting to feel a little milked actually. Why is Vo2 max testing even required/valuable? I can track my cycling gains using power, and running through speed. Why is this even needed for average athletes?
  11. For the issue with sound, what about using bone conduction headphones? Anyone look into that? Sounds like the perfect fix.
  12. I don't think I am hypoxic when swimming. I think it's a combination between the gentle rocking and the steady noise of my breathing. I can see the value in learning how to breath bilaterally, and learning how to regain your breath while swimming in open water, so I take it that is one set (350m in total) and a short rest is taken after each 350m? Not sleepy after, but during a long set (the ones to build endurance). I am usually ravenous after swimming. My go to snack is now watermelon after a long swim session. https://www.facebook.com/ReplayVideoAnalysis/ Jana from Replay runs open water training sessions at Hobart Dam. It's either on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and she will teach you some open water skills, plus run some drills (like how to draft, how to sight, have people swimming in tight groups, etc). Was reasonable for the session (R150 iirc). It's a bit of a drive for me, but was worth the trip.
  13. Before we get too technical, please can someone answer this. During those long 1km plus sets, does anyone else get sleepy?
  14. Welcome to all the new Hubbers! For those who bought bikes, hope you have many happy KMs. bilal, take a look for the group rides on the forums. There may be a group in or close to your area. Another option is to join the Cycle Lab Club. They have group rides for all levels.
  15. How ironic. I recently bought my Cervelo through them. Decided to use a traditional brick and mortar shop so I can have some kind of face to face relationship. Don't regret my decision at all. Great service and very friendly. Also, the advise I have received has been good. Speaking about fake Pinarellos, I saw a second hand one on sale at Cycle Lab while browsing earlier this week, and the first thought was if it was a fake or not.
  16. I read posts like this, and they really inspire me to keep running. Can't wait until I get the KMs under my legs to get to this point. I am only now starting to enjoy some of my runs, so hopefully the speed and distance can start piling up already!
  17. Give it horns everyone! Hope you all have a fantastic day out.
  18. Heal up quickly. Glad you are going to be ok though. It's a sad state of affairs when those that are here to protect us refuse to do so.
  19. A quick question for the experienced runners here. Think 3 months is enough time to get training in for a half marathon? Not looking to compete, but complete as I am a pretty poor runner and don't have much of a running base. The goal is to complete a Half Ironman distance without any injuries. Can comfortably complete a 5km in 35mins at present.
  20. Check out the Ironman PE 2017 thread. There are some nice write ups there already.
  21. https://www.facebook.com/ReplayVideoAnalysis/ Jana runs some open water workshops every now and then at Homestead Dam. It's a little bit far to travel, but getting time in the open water is valuable.
  22. Pushing as far as you did sounds like a feat in itself. Well done.
  23. Happy birthday, Stretch! It only really counts if you have entered a new age group though.
  24. I am amazed at the distances some people in this thread do. And some of those speeds. Can't wait to get my 5km down to 30 minutes. I was quite chuffed with my 2 x 5km runs and 1 x 7km run per week. Nothing like being brought back down to earth...
