  3. The wheel set... Is it a 29er mtb wheelset I assume? Thinking of going this route but using a cheap 29er mtb wheelset, would this work? Then your groupset, what did you use? Only really interested in one chain ring with 9 speed rear derailer? flippen cool project
  4. What an awesome bike!! Job well done and it looks like an awesome machine!
  5. This is awesome as it gives me the opportunity to buy more gear! Commuting bike here I come... now... what to buy hehe (Selling my motorbike because I worked out going in by bicycle is only marginally slower at peaks times) Basically fastest by car or bike I have made it in is 20 minutes, reckon 30 minutes by bicycle is pretty realistic and very acceptable to me!
  6. Sooo... perfect day today and I didnt ride in! daminit... I had to pack all my canoe polo gear for my first training out V&A waterfront way this evening... Reckoned a big dry bag full of kayak crap and work clothes was a bit ambitous! Tomorrow though, let's ride is meeting me to show me how its done! hoping I can keep up hehe
  7. Looking for a L/XL I am about 1.85m tall I see I had forgotten to change my profile, I am now in CT
  8. Well the reason I thought maybe the cx route is that I will need a bike for the argus next year and meh, they look awesome! Maybe a single speed city commuter is also an option?? I assume if one does find a cx bike here they are k#k expensive?
  9. So I am starting to commute to work (about 11 - 15km depending on route). Reckon my awesome giant Trance X3 without any lockout will be a bit much so keen to look at alternatives. What would an entry level cyclocross bike set one back and where would I buy one in Cape Town? Any other suggestions, maybe a cheaper fixie with flat bars
  10. Cool, got my bike lights and tomorrow will be my first day commuting in... Unless it absolutely comes down heavy with rain. What time you reckon I should leave plumstead to make it in by say 07h30 or so?? Work is in central avenue (mowbray side of pinelands) I am around the corner from the checkers! Will try main road tomorrow... No the fittest but am bargaining on about 40-45 minutes... Google maps says 11.7 km
  11. Thanks guys, Just got to get hold of some bike lights and commuting gear and I will give it a go Will make a massive difference to going by car for sure
  12. So I am finally living in Cape Town, at an aweosme place in upper Plumstead close to Main road. The traffic in the mornings is very crap (afternoons way better) I am trying to work out the best route to commute on the mountain bike... I was advised to look at either going main road or rather milner/belvedere road up around rondebosch common onto raapenberg then into Pinelands... What route is safest, are these two my safest and best bets? These roads are hectic congested in the mornings!! Thanks
  13. Vloer Moer... he moers the floor literally!!... That stuff is classic haha
  14. Ahahaha... Only difference is the front tyre and a few bits a bobs... Totally counts
  15. I have a similar plan in mind with an 80's Bridgestone red racer I am getting for commuting Nice
  16. Nice representing CWWC!!!
  17. +1 for riding a Dakkie!!! No wonder the footage came out so great
  18. Since by my el-cheapo Russel Hobbs espresso machine and blade grinder combo for R1k I am already becoming a snob and realising MANY coffees we get served by baristas who have the machines but havent a clue are sub standard compared to I guess the "average" coffees I am making with my setup... I dont want to taste coffee thats any better because then my budget will be buggered
  19. His testimonials on his website claim a hell of a lot
  20. I have spoken to quite a number of guys regarding knee surgeries etc... My brother ended up having an op and it was very very successful, I will find the surgeons name for you. Second thing, there is a doctor in Parys who does a technique called prolotherapy. I have met two people randomly in Parys, both hectic sportsmen who swear by his method. Its completely non invasive, I thought at first all he did was inject cortisone into the knee but he really doesnt. It supposedly stimulates tendon healing (yes healing of the actual tendons). He has sorted out two of SA's top squash players who are playing aggressively again apparantly. Not saying it definitely works but maybe worth a chat with the guy and if you think it sounds right trying the therapy before resorting to knee ops which are very hectic indeed?
  21. Ja, was tough on Saturday, the wind was rough... the better half did sterling but not throwing the bike at me and finished! The new route is very cool though... Was good fun but I was pretty buggered afterwards
  22. How rough is the 30km... My girlfriend is keen to do her first 30 on the mtb but we have only just begun training after a very very long break. If we take it easy will we make it... she is also not technically proficient
  23. Howsit, Just picked up that there are LED bike lights on groupon today... Check here Not sure if they good or worth it but thought I would post Cheers
  24. My last bit of "young" advice... Study something that interests you, but also make sure its something you can quite easily make money off. Professions are great for this because you walk out of studying into a job. I have a few mates who went for super intereting social sciences route (psycology etc) where they cant really find nice paying work after studying or they need to "create" a job description for themselves... Not very easy... Just my 2c
