  1. I did a gap year as an exchange student, studied engineering at varsity... worked in construction a year, didnt dig it, working now 3 years in water and env engineering consulting. Just accepted a new job offer to move from highveld to Cape Town to work under a young (40 year old or so) team to further my experience in fixing water (effectively) I seriously love the feeling I get when my "job" coincides with my passion for improving the environment for all our sakes... That doesn't always happen but it really helps.... Whats a very cool feeling right now is that I am 26 years old and just got head hunted of sorts for new work in the current economic climate... FEELS AWESOME! Studying afforded me this...
  2. feeling dumb right about now... Of course theres a bejillion videos on how to do it... Man I was clueless hehe Then also went off to tandvleisboom... so many great machines for decent prices there too!
  3. Any good how to's or something on milk frothing? I make such a mess, its quite an art
  4. So I went and bought that cheapo russell hobbs machine eldron mentioned... Super Stoked, got my hands on some decent beans and, for my totally unrefined tastes, its AWESOME! What a bargain Seriously grafts well for the price I think! Milk frothing is a bit of a nightmare but eh, thats my domestic managers problem
  5. I personally did atkins during 3rd year varsity (5 years ago), lost 25 kg and didnt really put much of that back on when returning to a "normal diet" I then recently decided to rather go the Dukan route (high protein, lower in fat and carbs) Results are phenominal, its not about removing all carbs etc. Its about eating more whole foods and yes, removing the pastas, rice, bread etc that basically "bulk up" your normal diet. I have found that I enjoy my food much more, am cooking interesting things, am eating a hell of a lot more vegetables and basically avoiding intake of sugar we arent normally aware of (or think of) I still indulge but now because my general diet is better, the effects of indulging are minimal. I have discovered I am very carb resistant. I am now about 3 kg away from finally being off the overweight side of the BMI ever! Super stoked and I will eat this way permanently... People are different, my body refuses to lose wight on a low fat high carb diet... and I am forever starving...
  6. It seems to be a good starting place. The reveiws and the automatic machines are very varied and it serious money to be dropping without being sure. Thanks for the info
  7. I see makro also has the Delonghi ESAM3500 for R5500 This is at least R1000 cheaper than through other retail. Does anyone have experience with this machine? worth the bigger investment? Seems like temperature of the milk froth is an issue http://www.singleserveespresso.com/pictures/MagnificaESAM3500-thumb.jpg
  8. Eldron, How much of a mission is it to use te milk frother? Not worried about the espresso part. For a first foray into espresso etc, this seems like a nice CHEAP place to start hehe
  9. Sweet... Thanks for the info
  10. Howsit, A mate borrowed my bike and the chain is no more. I have read somewhere that the cassette and chain should be changed together. Is this true? Also, will any 9 speed chain fit a 9 speed cassette (regardless of number of teeth) Cheers forumites
  11. Well thats just the thing... I dont want hassle, just great coffee which is why the Nespresso is still winning. But eish, 4 cups a day over 3 years is a *** load of money!
  12. Ok, so I have followed this thread closely... Very very informative. I was just about sold on going the Nespresso route when I spotted a coffee machine at my local in Parys (The pickled pig - awesome pub with a nice shop selling coffee stuff attached) Petra KM45 The owner is quite a coffee buff and reckons for the price (R2800) it works brilliantly. It works on either pads(he sells them in 200 pad bags working out like R1.50 a pad or something) and normal ground coffee. It has a very clever milk steaming system (you simply put a tube into your milk jug and it does the rest) So it seems to be a decent automatic machine. Only thing I see is that is only generates 2bar of pressure. This is why I am posting. Will the coffee be very substandard? I am only really after a coffee machine for the taste etc not really the whole process. thats why I was looking at nespresso but it works out very pricey in the long run. Reviews I have found seem pretty positive. So confused
  13. I dropped from 135kg to 110kg in 2.5 months during varsity a couple o years back doing Atkins. Kept most of that off. Went back to a "normal" diet". Started using Dukan principles since the end of January and I am down to about 100kg (Lightest since school days) Me thinks I might be CR. hehe I am a full advocate for cutting back on the carb!
  14. Aha... sweeet. Now to actually ride and contribute hehe Thanks bio
  15. How do I join? I went to the link but dont seem to come right?
  16. Very good info... thank you for the effort to find out. The buyer has run for the hills but good to know for next time
  17. Awesome job Wrigs. I would be very interested to see what their response would be. Of all the "scam-like" emails I have received, this is the only one to mention pay pal. I think convies idea would be the only one to take a chance on. Only thing I cant see happening is Pay Pal allowing you to withdraw the funds before the item has been sent/received, or rather that pay pal has received some sort of confirmation (buyer as well as seller protection)
  18. An Xperia Active Waterproof Smartphone
  19. Well, the sending address just came through... Lagos Nigeria hehe... It is overwhelming the amount of scam mails I have received
  20. That was actually the question... thank you... As far as I knew, once the paypal cleared into your account there is no way they could retract the funds as long as you prove the item was sent. But obviously, in this case a scam
  21. Now I feel stupid for even posting this.... I cannot believe the amount of scam replies I have received... as in 10 responses, every single one dodgey! Anyway, at least I maybe gave you guys some early thursday entertainment
  22. I have posted a phone I am selling in the classefieds here as well as junkmail and on gumtree... I received the following response from an "interested buyer", I am pretty sure it seems quite sketchy... But as you will see the want to use paypal to pay... Can one be scammed if paypal is used? I apologise if this is in the wrong topic... " From: <> To: > Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 3:29 PM Subject: Re: Another response to your Junk Mail ad "I bought an Xperia Active" I am interested in buying this stuff for my kid who schools abroad. Regarding payment, i would prefer to pay with PayPal as i feel comfortable using PayPal for online transaction because of safety. It would be very helpful if you could help me ship it over to him. I would have make the process by myself but the fact that I am on a business trip out of the country presently makes it impossible for me to do so. I would add R2000 to the money due to the cost of shipping internationally. If this works for you, get back to me with your PayPal email as i can send the funds now "
  23. Its quite interesting how guys always say girls want pink bikes... My girlfirend is riding an old pitch black Silverback Dakota that I got for her second hand when I was at varsity. She won't change it because it's black and has a "piss off" sticker on the rear stay... Says it makes her look MEAN!!
  24. I just got my first dually... A 2010 Trance X3 I am amazed at how comfortable and stable I feel on the bike. Only drawbacks I could say is the lack of propedal setting on the rear shock Check crank heights, I have found them to be a bit lower than what I was used to, but I was riding a merida entry level hard tail that was way too big for me... no experience with the Trek In addition to the way it handles downhills... I find the stock standard bike to be very very light for the price. I chose between a new merida 120-1000d and this used Giant. I am totally sold on the Giant
