  1. FInding new routes is an awesome way to discover a new city! Developing my Southern Burbs to Pinelands route, dropped my "Main road cycling" down to about 500m today! And I got to ride through parks etc with the early morning sun... Getting addicted to this!
  2. I think the value of these types of skills cannot be over stated!
  3. I am seriously enjoying my Giant Escape 2 that I bought specifically for the commute. I have been able to see much difference between the giant (for under R4k new) and a cyclocross bike (hard to source and expensive). Main similarities: fixed frame wider tolerances for tyres (I believe from a 28mm to a 42mm wheel) Great at going on paths or off the road I have found Differences : much lower spec and mtb groupo For what I needed it is awesome! The new 2013 Scott Metrix range should also be landing in a short while. Distributors are bringing in the 30 and 40 I believe and is that same type of steed as the Giant Escape.
  4. Thanks a lot for all the info... Armed with some knowledge, youtube and will get the necessary spares to attempt this, it seriously cant be that tough Thank you
  5. So, inspired by the "go flat pedals" thread currently running the miles. I am convinced and want to go back to flats to improve my skills. My bunny-hop is attrocious and I would like to remedy this and look at picking up some other fundamental skills I may have missed on the way. Anyone know of any skills clinics run in CT? Keen to bring my gf along too although she seems to be faring better than me lately with her slow but steady approach to technical riding! Cheers
  6. Awesome gear! Nice post
  7. Very well said... I am in the process of going back to flats, first stop will be working out the rubbish that has sunk in from riding clipless for so long. Who wants to offer up a bunny-hop properly lesson
  8. So... Part of my learning to be a bike guru has service own forks on the list. I want to start with my gf's old 2006 Manitou Trace Air fork on her hard tail silverback dakota. It is super slow on the rebound and I doubt has ever been looked at. I picked up the manitou service manual and have all the necessary torques, oil levels etc and a break down of supposedly how this is done. Where on earth would I get seals for this fork? Or is it a case of opening up and seeing what I find. I know JB's course is probably a must here but I want to give it a bash. I have most of the required tools except a torque wrench which I can get hold of Any advice etc?? Thanks in advance
  9. What is the best/cheapest way to get hold of some five tens... Considering chucking away the clipless for a while! And they look supreme!
  10. I am always weary of BMI calcs etc... I have a very large bone structure, currently weigh in just over 100kg and around 1.9m tall. I have dropped from around 135kg over the passed 3-4 years... While I am still carrying weight I still border on Obese??
  11. I would go for the rocky... Not even a question! The rocky is in a different league
  12. I am a regular user of groupon... The problem doesnt sit with Groupon but rather the service providers that advertise. I have only really ever used the service/restaurant related/accommodation deals and must say I have never been disappointed... Most of the issues seem to be around buying products which the delivery is solely in the hands of the person offering the deal which I can understand may lead to issues!
  13. Your mate should just drop the CPA on him and go collect his bike. Anything he didnt authorise should not be his responsibility to pay for! Else, if I have it right he can tell them to remove the "new" componentry and replace with the old... I would not cough up
  14. Can anybody confirm the prices and the dates of arrival of the new silverback range... The Vida 1 and the Sprada are mighty tempting! Price on the Sprada 2?
  15. Thanks Mets! One more day... give us a detailed update once you have the steed! For that money I also reckon you made the right choice, NICELY Specced
  16. Cool... enjoy the new bikes!
  17. What sort of price did this one come in at? What was the difference for the yellow somme quick looking one
  18. Man... I am so impressed with this city! Move from Gauteng was well made! Good job CoCT
  19. Haha... its the exact opposite for me, going back to the Southern Burbs up Main road is good endurance training!
  20. In line with everything I have read, Noakes has not ever claimed to have come up with or developed a diet. He has slated the "atkins diet" a bit not from a nutritional aspect but rather that Atkins took the diet that all dieticians recommended pre 1950's (cited as the Banting Diet) and Atkins called it his own! Noakes is basically advocating carb free or reduced carb living for people who are/ or think they may be carb resistant and/or at risk of diabetes!
  21. Hey man, Biggest thing is to give a bit more information and read the threads on thehub.... there are a whole host of bikes in your price range if you have R20k per bike, still plenty if you have R10k per bike. A bit of research will need to be done on your part about 26,29 or 27.5 (650b) wheel size... full suspension or a hard tail. What and where are you looking at riding, how often, how fit are you and what is your end goal?? To mission along the dam watching the ducks or to be bombing down rocky downhills? Wanting to do stage race cross country riding? 20-30km or 70-90km?? All very important questions you will need to look at before pulling the trigger and spend your hard earned money! Cheers
  22. Looks incredible... Cycle Factory please keep us in the loop regarding arrivals and pricing!
  23. I am also learning that commuting is the ideal Interval scenario... Seriously seeing a benefit in my riding from my tri weekly 25-30km commute!!
  24. Hehe, long story, quite a bit of irony that the first time at tokai was for a RUN! crazy I tell you but either way it was awesome!
  25. Stuff was out of site but ja, having read everything on here I shouldnt have been so complacent! I believe the trail and tar weekly wednesday runs will now bring a guard with that all will contribute so bucks toward for the hour/hour and a half the guys run. Arboretum is where it happened I believe, glad no one was hurt. My own observation of the area (btw it was the awesomest run I have ever done... Great job on that single track guys, it was my first visit there after moving) its a very easy target so the guys found this out and are exploiting it! At least there's good awareness now! everyone is doing a great job
