  1. More bad news. My gf and i joined the Wednesday mountain and tar trail run. Plenty people and cars! Went out together at 17h45 got back at 18h45 to find drivers window smashed and a pair of sunglasses, purse with all cards and license, ipod, Id book were stolen. The guy from trail and tar, noel was also broken into. Didn't know where the San parks office was. Just reported it to kirstenhof police station. Buggers
  2. So there is a threaded hole (single boss) on either side of the fork and two threaded holes and either side of the rear triangle (at the dropouts)? No clue if this means disc brakes can be attached?
  3. Entry level mtbike groupset and shifters (combination of alivio and altus) 8 speed cassette with tektro v brakes I think. Aluminium frame and fork with a geometry slightly mnore relaxed than a road bike (head angle of 73 vs 71 on giants road bikes) 35mm wide entry level tyres on 700c/29er rims Comfy saddle, cheapy plastic pedals I am stoked
  4. Darnit, thats a huge saving I am no bike ninja... lots of training required before looking that route This is why I didnt haggle all that much or shop around for prices, distributor had limited stock alread (of 2013 bikes?) only a couple of larges and they basically told me city cycles had recently ordered! Checked out the Scott Metrix, it was XL, a tad big but better components for the same price... The 2013 range is landing in a while still though but they have brought in the 40 and 30 which are both very very nice looking! The 30 will be around R5000 but seems nice indeed
  5. Awesome man, I have a few plans for the bike. Not going single speed (yet?) as the bike must also ride and argus etc not so keen on chappies with one gear I think for the money it is bucks well spent. Got a new bike clock to keep track of the kilos, works out roughly R1 per 1km saving over driving the car. So, 12.5km down 4000 more to go before it gets blinged
  6. I am stoked this is making mainstream media and support the endevour fully... I responded amazingly to this type of diet and eating. I have gone less disciplined on ruling out EVERYTHING to make life easier so that I dont fall off so weight loss has slowed down but is still steady. Over a very long time I am hovering above 100kg (of which a goodly portion is now muscle building too) from 135-140kg 3 or so years ago! I am carb resistant obviously and this really works for me!
  7. Well they are like fabric shoes with croc soles... (dont look like crocs! Dont paint me with THAT brush
  8. Yep... thought it was just "drizzling" Because the bike has cheapy plastic pedals I was like "no ways I am wearing bibs and takkies!" so I wore a pair of walk shorts and croc mocassins... GF said I was stupid, turns out the crocs were great... shorts not so much I still made up ridiculous time even in this weather
  9. Didnt click attach haha
  10. Picked this baby up from city cycles yesterday for R3800 incl a few extras! Even thought today wwasnt just "drizzle" as I thought, was still and AWESOME ride in... 30 minutes instead of 40-45 minutes with my dually! Whoop
  11. Thanks for the advice, ended up phoning Dragon to see who had recently ordered stock on the bike. Turns out City Cycles at Canal Walk had both a Scott and Giant bikes I wanted to look at on the floor. Went there last night (cool they open till 20h45!) got a chance to cycle the bikes around the parking lot was awesome Bought the Giant, not necessarily the absolute best price but how much difference will there be on a R3500 bike... AND I got to cycle it in this morning!
  12. IMO this is basically a cyclocross bike without the drop bars http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-za/bikes/model/rapid.2.triple/12720/59637/#specifications and brought in locally for around R8.5k Else theres the escape 2 which is a touch more "rugged" but way cheaper at R3.5k Just for info hubbers
  13. Ok.... dilema of the commuter bike solved. I want a Giant Escape 2 Price is around R3500 and is 100% what I want and in stock with Dragon Sports! Apparantly Bridge Cycles is out I went there the other day in any case and was pretty disappointed in their "Cajees" type vibe. Thoughts? Preferably southern suburbs or pinelands ish areas but ja... Not expecting a huge saving (its a cheapie) but would like a decent build!
  14. Entered myself and my gf (my last one was in 2002!) Super stoked, one of the highlights of having been able to move to the CAPE! woo hooo
  15. So... I am still considering the idea of getting my hands on a cyclocross bike or similar for commuting into work. I had a new thought of upgrading the components on my current dually as follows to achieve a similar goal : I have a 2010 Giant Trance X3, main issue is tyres, shock and fork > Buy either a cheaper wheelset or a way better one than my current ones which are average off the hub a fit slicks with slime to reduce rolling resistance > Upgrade the Fox Float R rear shock (no lockout) to something decent with lockout! > Possibly upgrade the Fox 32 F120R to something with lockout but its quite a cool fork so I may just leave it. Is this idea realistic? The bike as is is pretty light for a cheaper dual sus so it could work?
  16. Commuting on a dual sus without lockout albeit awesome for hoping cubs and the fun factor... Makes 12km in a decent training session
  17. I use the bike lanes wherever possible on my commute... On the whole they are way better than riding alongside the traffic! Few issues ehre and there but I am happy that there at least are some!
  18. Started commuting twice a week for now, upping it to three times in 2 or 3 weeks time. Its great... just need to get a bike thats not a dual susp mtb bike without lockout! Bouncing all my power away! about 11-12km one way
  19. There for sure
  20. LEt's ride did you cycle in today? I chickened out
  21. Shew... Killer bike! Nice
  22. Like a road bike strong enough to go offroad... Google is your friend
  23. Chatting to the dude tonight maybe But first to check with the bank manager Had only planned on getting a cheapo old racer
  24. So a guy has contacted me with a Stevens CX bike. 58cm frame (which by what I see should be right because a cx bike should be a touch smaller than a road bike). Bike seems very clean... R6500? Ultegra groupset (sti, hubs, derailers etc) Carbonfibre fork Mavic CX pp2 rims 10 spd
