  1. Its only Campag 8 speed that cant take a 9 or 10 speed cassette.
  2. Yes, your 8 speed hub can take a 10 speed Shimano/Sram cassette. I'm sure the 8 speed cranks will also be OK, but not optimal. According to Sheldon Browns website its not an issue. Go check out this page for some useful info: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/speeds.html
  3. Um, he said 90%, maybe you belong to the 10% where its not the case. I removed the Mountain Kings which were perfectly true and replaced with crossmarks that wobble all over the place. They are perfectly seated in the rim with the bead locked in all the way round. I agree that its just a crappy tyre, but I just bought them because I wanted a UST tyre that rolls better on tar than the Mtn Kings for my daily commute.
  4. Admin shouldn't do anything. Use your own discretion and intelligence before you buy anything from anyone.
  5. I bought the on-one tensioner from Kiwi which looks very similar. I like the plastic roller concept, makes it much quieter than the jockey wheel version I used before.
  6. Theres an old guy at City Cycling Club that rides a titanium Victoria. Very nice bike but I think its quite old. Not sure if the company is still around.
  7. No worries, I gathered as much. I don't think you are too far off though, I couldn't find any documented frames online that actually use a 28.6 clamp, except for old BMX bikes, so who knows.
  8. You lost me, nowhere did he say the ID of his seattube is 28.6mm. But anyway, it doesn't matter, we going in circles here.
  9. Why impossible? Titanium and steel tubing is less than 1mm thick, so if the titanium frame tubing is 0.8mm thick at the seat tube then it could take a 28.6 clamp.
  10. Crumbs Drongo, you have a weird way of getting your point across. Older steel frames have seat tube diameters of 28.6 for posts sized 27.2 and smaller, so RodTi's question is pretty valid. Is it possible that his titanium frame that has a 27.0 seatpost requires a 28.6 seatpost clamp? I'm personally not sure, since most steel frames of that size have brazed on seatclamps and I've yet to come across a 28.6 clamp.
  11. Well, not really crazy, but if you've got the legs to get up Suikerbossie with a 42/19 or even a 21, then i'm actually very impressed.
  12. That is so true. I bought ex Argus winner Mark Pinder's old 80's bike. I think it was a 52/42 with a 13/19 at the back or something crazy like that.
  13. Well you don't gain an extra gear but you can certainly noticed it going up a hill. Roughly, every tooth on the back is worth 4 on the front, so going up 2 teeth at the back is an easier gear than going for a 34/50 compact on the front. What you lose out on is the narrower spaced gears of the 12/25.
  14. Oh krap, I are leeking for my dickshinry nowe.
  15. Ditto. I fitted new crossmarks on the weekend and noticed a considerable wobble. Can't say I notice it when I ride though, but was wondering why bother with trued wheels when the tires are so out of true.
  16. Casio had/has a GPS watch, just a pity the battery only lasts an hour making it pretty worthless for just about any activity. Lets hope this one keeps its charge a bit longer.
  17. Idiots, they should be arrested for fraud!

    Good IDT

Get rollers, will help you with your bike skills at the same time as getting a workout.
  19. Just an observation, but that frame has quite alot of tubing sticking out above the top tube. I wonder if you'd have had a really long seatpost that extended deep enough into the seat tube if the frame would still have cracked.
  20. That is hot. You going Super Record?
  21. I'm with you on the tyres. I bought 28c gatorskins at a bargain, and running them at 95psi is like riding along on a sofa. I'm probably much slower with them, but you can't have it all.
  22. I think there is a difference when it comes to seatposts. On some club rides there is this big guy on an Alu Giant with a carbon post with quite alot of extension. I got quite nervous riding behind him one day because that post was flexing so much it was swaying backwards and forwards on every pedal stroke. I can't imagine an alu post flexing to that extent(but I could be wrong). It may be possible that you can build a really stiff carbon post and a really flexible one, ditto with alu and steel. So, I dont think the difference is as subtle as vibration damping, but possibly the extent to which a seatpost flexes(regardless of material). On a frame its a different story, the tubes are joined to form two very stiff triangles, so I can understand the argument that you wont notice the difference between two frames of different materials but with exact same geometry and components.
  23. CRC has a steady supply of 9 speed campy casettes. Campy even still makes the 8 speed Record casettes for those of us still using 8 speed. Its just the local Campag importers that dont see a need to support the 9 speed market.
  24. Hi Kiwi, why only up to 18" for the Java HT? Some of us tall guys also like a good deal.
  25. I bought a set of continentals a few years ago from City Cycles at Canal Walk, not sure if they still stock them. They were expensive though, and the reduced diameter changes your gearing a fair amount.
