  1. The pass saw some heavy rains the weekend, especially on the Prince Albert side. Hope prep for this race was not compromised.
  2. Also the most beautiful. Even more awesome and brutal from the Northern side!! It's a kind of magic...
  3. There is a shorter Strava segment for the last 1.2 km. Avg gradient of 15% and shows gradients of 36+% inside the segment. Not a true and accurate reading. Like many other Strava gradients.
  4. Ah, that is on the eastern side of the Tredouw pass I think, please let me know how that is. Looking for options for December - normally we stay in a self catering house in town.
  5. You will love the place. Go to Swartberg Hotel, sit on the stoep and order a 500ml Glenhoff draft. Priceless. Even better go dine at the hotel in the evening. Their lambshack is do die for!!! And the ambience is super rustic and in the English Colonial style
  6. I did Swartberg 3 times from that side - twice in CPT. My Polar shows an avg gradient of 10.6% for the last 3.5 km, I cannot remember it ramping up more than 15%. In training I was probably on a 22x30 on my heavy HT (14kg). In CPT we climbed 2700m in 87 km, so I was in my 22x34 on the Anthem and bleeding. But hey, I'm not that gifted. Would love to know what works for you - the race is seriously on my bucket list!!!
  7. leave something in the tank for the last 3 km..... the 1st 8 km is a con in making you think this is easy peasy...
  8. Visits to the shop on a Saturday morning will be way less fun!!! RIP Barry...
  9. I see from the Racetec results that Ariane Kleynhans beat Ariane Luthi by 2 seconds in the ITT. How cool is that!!!
  10. Please don't remind me. I had to dig REALLY REALLY deep on Lichens Pass. And then the dreaded Mineshaft. Still don't know how I managed the 39x25
  11. I had the exact same frame, in Red. With a Suntour Superb gruppro. The wheels were Mavic GP4 with Record hubs - sold the wheelset to Loose Cog some time ago.
  12. Hard day in VC. Gary and Co got away on Robert Broom, was in a 5 man TTT till the lights went out at 95km. Limped home.
  13. Probably same comms. I also enjoyed the race, since I used it for high effort training and knew I would not be racing for podium. Seems SHAMUS and his team is taking the learnings to heart for a better race next year. Which means a better timing company, and not bending the rules. Once you do that, you are dead in the water.
  14. Hey Spinnekop What happened? Yeah, a bit of a drive, and registration this morning was slow!! But not too bad. On par with the Rooiwal races methinks. Oh and making the U-turn a few kays too far, didn't help my poor form.
  15. This must be THE best EVER example of Rule #5, EVER!!! HUGE RESPECT!!!
  16. What channel?
  17. Exactly. We had a Thule one in the mid 80's. Fair bit of force on the stem and handlebars in a crosswind driving at 120 kph.
  18. Disagree with you. I train 99.9% of the time alone. If you add a few surges (intervals) in your training you should be fine.
  19. Only 4-5, Peter Parker will be at back, wheel sucking.
  20. Underachiever was fast going into survival mode at that point. Only had the breath to say hi!!!
  21. Will a gravel grinder work for this race?
  22. The actual results and Racetec does not always ties up. At the Satellite I was about 3-4 sec ahead of a team mate, but Racetec had him a sec ahead of me.
  23. Who writes it? MARKETERS!!! Wonderful people!!
