  1. A few days ago "Daniel Britz The Bike Agent/Trader thebikeagent.sa@gmail.com 0649251651" enquired about my ad https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-mountain-e-bikes/668316/2022-orbea-rise-h30-large-with-r60k-upgrades. After sharing personal info that he requested (listed below), he pretended to EFT, then disappeared. - clear ID copy front & rear pics - proof of bank account info - proof of address - loads of bike pics - selfie I assume that this could be a case of identity fraud. Bike ad and personal details could be fraudulently used to deceive interested buyers into handing over cash. Beware. In the meantime I've applied for Protective Registration on SAFPS's website (Southern African Fraud Prevention Service). My bank's fraud division advised that all credit providers and financial service providers vet new applications through SAFPS I believe. Please be alert. Any further advice/input appreciated. Screen shots of my interaction with Daniel below. Funny, his Whatsapp profile pic actually indicates a shady character.. *edited for conciseness*

  9. Rides with wife & kids to the local park. Bunny hops everything in sight. Makes eldest kid capture dad's impromptu practice session. Adds slow-mo for effect. Kids loved the enthusiasm. lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsFxQiOnteg&feature=youtu.be
  10. Hope that this local creativity grabs global attention. Thumbs up for the thought that's gone into this. But on my mountain bike I crash way too often to forgo the padded protection of my beloved backpack. And where else would my mobile phone be safely stored. Certainly not on the bike or in the pocket of a crash prone rider. In saying this I have just reminded myself of the need to improve riding skills. Eish.

  12. Hoogekraal yesterday. Fun factor upped a few notches with an awesome blast from the past.
  13. all this fancy tech, and still the rear derailleur remains the age-old standard design, like a limp arm protruding precariously. Some companies are attempting to change this though. Hopefully soon.
  14. Many thanks for the info. Received a private message from the event organizer that included more info on the timing issue and an apology. Didn't see or hear the announcement of the decision at the race though and didn't see any publication of the decision anywhere (checked social media updates, etc). Did I miss it perhaps? And now this in the Pinkbike article: "Accurate timing is one of the core elements of any race”. The article literally doesn't mention the timing issue and goes on to say that previous timing issues (experienced at past races), was addressed. Clearly indicating that timing issues did not occur on the day. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/enduro-western-cape--ewc-1-hoogekraal.html Kindly advise/comment?
  15. No announcement or publication from the event's organizers.
  16. Confused. For about 90% of the riders, stage 2 times have been omitted from the results. Excluding stage 2 results would result in incorrect rankings no? Anyone else sharing the same view? Or have I missed something perhaps.
  17. Sweet ride. For photo shoots the (unwritten) rule is to always drop the dropper . Giant dropper still works fine with all that wear? Mine's almost there too.
  18. Thx. "Winded. Dazed". Spot on. By no means a fall at speed. That pace was very relaxed/slow imo. A slow fall is one thing. A slow fall onto rocks like this is another. Lesson learnt is that riding a familiar/easy trail does not mean that you're less at risk than riding an unfamiliar trail. Funny thing is that prior to the fall, knee pads were promptly removed for the sake of cooler body temperature. Prior to the ride, helmet chin guard was left at home coz I can ride these trails with my eyes closed you see. Insert face-palm emoticon here..
  19. Started 2018 with a bang. Literally. Usual backyard ride that I hit weekly and that I am able to do with my eyes closed (almost), didn't go too well this morning. Weekly routine: Pedal from door to Rhodes Memorial side of Table Mountain. Proceed with the short but punchy climb (with some hike-a-bike) to the top of a trail segment tagged on Strava as "The Single Track". Pause. Catch breath. Hydrate. Turn around. Enjoy the fast descent back to Rhodes Memorial lower parking area. Cruise home. Total of 15km with about 400m elevation gain. Considered a short ride by most, but I find that its a steep climb (https://www.strava.com/activities/1335125783) so the work out is solid and most importantly, the descent is fun and practically in my backyard. Didn't quite get down safely this morning. Watch each clip till the end. First clip is a trail segment known/tagged as "The Single Track" on Strava. My favourite segment this side of Table Mountain (39 second PR). Rest of the descent is made up of pretty basic jeep and single track. Nothing serious. No jumps, drop-offs or anything of the sort. Not even good berms to rail. The descent is nice and fast though due to the steep'ish gradient. Just be cautious and courteous to hikers. After all, the trails are shared. This morning the trails were rather quiet so I was able to have some fun. Well. Sort of. 22. So the event was not only about the movie. It was about the great venue, food, prize giving, good weather and of course, the social. Nice one and thanks to the organizers for putting it all together. Regarding the movie content, is it just me or could I have spent an hour or two on youtube and found slightly better MTB-related short film content? *cough* at almost no cost *cough*.
  23. Took on the task of completing a degree with two small kids. Toward the end of the degree, third kid comes along. Managed to complete the degree successfully and somehow still made time to squeeze in a fair bit of MTB'ing too. One of the advantages of a crazy busy weekly routine is that it improves time management skills ten fold.
