    Ocean eyewear

Been using the Q159A frame with photochromic transition lenses and prescription inserts for a few weeks now (pics below). Coming from two pairs of Oakley’s, I was pleasantly surprised at the awesome value that these offer. First ride was a proper fit-and-forget feeling due to their light weight and comfort. The only drawback is that Ocean photochromic lenses are not polarized (confirmed by the optometrist) and that they mist/steam up slightly (in all fairness, which sunnies are completely mist/steem proof anyway..). I have read that polarized lenses are designed to reduce glare from highly reflective surfaces e.g. water (think of water sports eg. fishing) and cars (think of driving in traffic - glare from windows/bonnets). I ride mountain mostly and have yet to come across highly reflective or glossy surfaces on jeep track or single track… except of course if a Spez rider crosses my path.. I feel that the photochromic lenses could darken a bit more in bright sunlight but so far I really can’t complain. A night ride through mountain trails also turned out absolutely fine. Would appreciate if anyone can provide more insight on the drawbacks of using non-polarized lenses (for mountain biking specifically)? Other than wanting the lenses to darken a bit more, I really haven’t noticed any drawbacks. Unless I have missed something? Bear in mind I have not had much experience with really high end sports eye wear eg. Oakley or Rudy Projects @ R5k plus.
  2. managed to convince the dude to dust off the blue Commy and come out of hibernation. Hard work but it paid off. Was his first ride in months after a trip abroad.
  3. Ah. I rode with Taahir-WP, he mentioned that he saw your car in the parking. Will look out for the green Commy next time p.s. TMARS dropper still going strong thanks!
  4. 9h00. The solo cow on the wrong side of the fence appeared to be trying to find a way to get back to the heard. Shame. Not an easy task if you can't remember where you exited the fence initially.
  5. Hoogekraal. Where cows, cobras, and Tallboys roam.
  6. at these speeds controlling the front wheel is a feat. Rocking and popping the rear the way these okes do is something else..

  10. Approached elderly couple, rang my bell, slowed down, waved, greeted. "Ah, a bell. Now there's a good idea" said the old man cheerfully.
  11. Shredding all day, braai'ing and beers under the moonlight. Tough life Awesome photo reviews. Take it to the next level - add some video footage.

  13. Road works caused me to fall into the path of oncoming/approaching traffic once. A truck approached and the driver slammed on the brakes. As luck would have it, I was on the ground with my head directly in the path of the front wheel of the truck. Watched the wheel skid toward my head. Instinct told me to turn my head away from the danger and so that the wheel of the truck would hit the rear of my head and not my face. The wheel of the truck struck my helmet just at the moment that the wheel/truck was about to come to a complete stop. Helmet cracked in a few places. Head was perfectly fine thank goodness. So of course I really don’t see the need to wear a helmet these days.
  14. Guys just to let you know, the awareness has been created and circulated. The other riders have been made aware of the learning’s that needs to be heeded here. Many thanks for the info and clarity. Here's to safe and happy riding for all.

  17. EDIT: removed post. Question answered in previous post thanks CPT Armpies.
  18. Not to play the 'ignorant' card or anything, but for those that don’t frequent the area and for general awareness, what is the normal (and formal) process to follow when checking for permission/fees to ride on trails like this, or on any of the popular trails for that matter? e.g. Are there boards or signs at the various entry points perhaps? Interested in understanding the sport better..
  19. Pheeeeuw. Word from our “tour guide” on the day was that it was okay to ride the trails. So much for that then. Next time I’ll personally check with the proper authorities before riding any trails or taking anyone’s word again. Lesson learned.
  20. Title of thread should be: "how not to ride a carbon rigid..."
  21. Hehe. That was another rider, not me. I prefer pink anyway.
