  1. A few friends did their Baviaans prep on their trainers .... 5+ hour sessions 😬 I rather do a couple of shorter zwift rides, then head outside as soon as work schedule and the weather provides a gap. Cold weather is fine, but I try to not go out when rain is predicted.
  2. Nou nie n goeie storie met feite opvoeter nie .... 😛 (dont mess up a good story with facts)
  3. Next visit, have a serving of the apple pie at Lazy Lizzard
  4. Golf estates Big shopping malls Even the volunteer fire fighting has been upgraded to a full time fire fighting department. Actually a very nice setup they have there. No longer "platteland" .... And people best make sure to check the HOT dry climate before making the move .... personally I prefer the hot and dry over the humid coastal climate. But certainly not everybody's cup of tea.
  5. I received a small package from "The Courier Guy" last week. Actually, it was delivered at home and my wife received it ..... NOPE !!! "We sent you and email with a PIN number .... cant hand over the package without the PIN" This email was sent the day off the delivery .... For crying out loud ..... now my wife needs to phone me, while I am busy with a group project (often I am meetings where I cant answer my phone) .... need to log in to check my private emails for this infernal PIN ... So for those that WANT belts and braces .... The Courier Guy is your go to company. For those that dont have time for this during the day .... AVOID these clowns !!! PS - Would have made the world of difference if they sent out that PIN email the day before ....
  6. I still prefer one with a peak. But then I often ride into the morning sun and USE that peak.
  7. December I got stung by a bee while cycling. Bee went IN the front vent hole .... got trapped on my scalp. (there are enough space for the air to move through, but not for an insect) I duly got stung while at speed on a downhill ..... Stopping with hand on the bars while janking the helmet off with the other .... Very FEW helmets actually have vent "slots" that follow through from front to back. I ended up buying a Sepcialized helmet that offers this. Yea yea ,,,,,, whats the chance of another bee getting stuck in there ..... darned if I can put on that other (still very new) helmet without feeling exposed .....
  8. I would stay well clear of Sandbaai, unrest has a way of spilling over to Sandbaai .... Onrus or even Vermont is very nice. 5km from the start of the Hermanus trail start LOVELY .... 8 months of the year ..... the rest you get trampled by visitors .... This applies to most every coastal dorpie ...
  9. Real question - Why the resistance to Bike Hub Pay ? For the price (and risk) of a bike purchase it is just an obvious choice if you cant conclude the deal in person. Hours, days, even years as a member is no real measure of their integrity. @Me rida my bicycle sold a bike for me in 2021. The buyer searched google, saw the add and only registered to make the offer.
  10. That, and the fact that they cant move stock. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://road.cc/content/tech-news/what-treks-rightsizing-plans-mean-bike-industry-307233%23:~:text%3DIn%20the%20latest%20development%20in,Bicycle%20Retailer%20and%20Industry%20News%20.&ved=2ahUKEwiP19P6laWFAxUtQ6QEHWSlBlwQFnoECBMQBQ&usg=AOvVaw3NhHUbiafyZqtnQeHm2a3N This is just the first special. Expect more as the plot thickens .... Many other brands in the same situation.
  11. Left field question .... Retiring ? Or setting up a remote office ? Many smaller towns still have very bad cell coverage. Fibre ... but check before comitting ... Western Cape ... no ideal address. Trails from Tokai, through Tygerberg and Bottelary. From Somerset West through Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl to Wellington. Each has their gems .... Also, Paarl and surroundings gets slightly hot ..... understatement. These are all a shorr drive appart .... Different approach .... Tulbach Ceres has good trails. Slanghoek, Rawsonville and Worcester to Robertson has equally many options. Though not sure of access ... Greyton ... man o man .... really on my bucket list 👍👍 The Grabow and Elgin valley ... Realistically .... you are going to want to drive to experience more of these trails.
  12. Erik one more thing to note - Bicycle insurance is for the "current replacement" cost. Thus every year or 2 you get a qoute for the replacement value of your bike. Totally different to car insurance value which lowers every year. It still sounds wrong. Best speak to your insurer and be sure what value to use.
  13. Erik this topic comes up often on the Hub. Well worth searching for a few of these threads. Couple of points to consider: 1. Wearables ... you can get insurance for your helmet, gloves, watch, etc . 2. Accident, Theft, Mugging . You may want comprehensive insurance to cover you properly. 3. Theft ... where ..... have a look at the stolen section. A very large portion of thefts occur from home .... consider your risks before opting for one of these ON/OFF insurance companies. 4. Price ... cycling insurance can get pricey ... many of us add it as a spesified item to our insurance portfolio.
  14. I close my eyes .... That is NOT a nice place ....
  15. Hiehie .... As much as I believe in MIPS .... and I will continue using it. @V18 is a medical specialist that has some real life experience of what WORKS. By all means, continue using MIPS .... BUT, add those other factors he mentions 👍 @V18 does not post often. When he does, it is solid input 👍 BAIE dankie V18.
  16. Tongue in cheek .... After a couple of Ironman events, including an age-cat podium, a friend did her first Comrades. Due to an overseas trip the Comrades training was reduced to a 10 week block. Finished it at her normal pace, and none of the "dramatic scenes" associated with Comrades. Recovery did take longer than an Ironman though. Based on the statistical data of a ONE .... Comrades is easier than Ironman She has been top of podium at Trans Baviaans, but not interested in multi-day cycling events ..... actually, she does not like technical rides, so wont enter such events.
  17. Bellville Willowbridge ? Certainly not the service I have received over the past few years. Hope this was a once off glitch from their side .... they normally are very helpful.
  18. I have not done the number crunching on these glasses. Bought an entry level set (R700) at CWC about 4 or 5 years ago. I managed to loose it a year later (went back an hour later... by which time it already had a new home..). Replaced it with exactly the same. It works perfectly for me from cold dark mornings right through to full sunshine, including riding in and out forested sections. My standard routine when I get home from a longer ride (more than an hour): 1. Wash the helmet padding (under a running tap, padding still in the helmet) 2. Wash the heart rate strap 3. Wash the glasses under the same running tap. Dry with toilet paper 4. Clean the gummy-berry juice bottle One minor scratch (from my fall last year). For the rest the glasses are still perfect.
  19. SUV's are not tall enough for extended seat posts. With a MTB the dropper seat post helps 👍 Certainly no one size fits all. I must have spent many hours moving the bikes about before settling on my layout.
  20. Both these bikes fit inside the Ertiga. With 3 usable seats. I removed seat #7 and added front wheel mounts. 30 sekonds to remove the rear wheel guides, flip up the seats and have a 6 seater to treat the Potch train when the visit us for the CTCT. @SilverRider Mounting brackets are from Holdfast. Your LBS can order this for you. You are welcome to pop over if you want to see what worked, and what I will change next time. I am in Bellville Not sure I would use a 3D printed bracket to mount the wheel. It may be handy for a bracket to limiting side ways sway.
