  1. WBC are making a joke of the consumer protection act ..... Either all 2nd hand traders comply with CPA, or it may as well be scrapped. Decra is a feeble excuse .... Sorry, their ethics dont sit well ...
  2. Scary thought .... WBC is listing on the stock exchange .... disconnect between business ethics and business success ......
  3. We kept the "Family package". It has all the Afrikaans channels (not that I watch it) Sports .... you have a lot of "words" there .... not seeing any WHEEL sports on that list though .... Lost my appetite for dstv decades ago when they dropped WRC, as in World Ralley Championship. (okay, I am aware that they now have a wheels sport channel ...) Frankly, I will rather be out there on my bike than sitting in front of a tv .... actually glad dstv helped me to get off the couch ..... o-damn ... did I just thank them .... The only way dstv or any other provider can work for us, is if I can "view on demand". I am not shifting my routine around a tv schedule. But this is a different topic ...
  4. Jokes aside .... WHY do people want to ride rogue ?? I am NOT a club marchal, and I dont ask people for their boards or permits .... life is just too short for this .... But, I do shake my head in amazement when people brag about riding without paying .....
  5. As much as I love Teng Tools (and have a lot of their tools), their prices are on the steep side now. As the OP is looking at AFFODRABLE options - Addendorfs is the go to supplier. Torque wrenches .... not the place to buy cheap ...
  6. How does the permit putchasing work ? Starting at either, you need to ride the other before getting to the pay point. As a member I have not kept current with day pass procedures. May be handy to know how this one works
  7. Uhmmmm ... who is going to buy a new helmet which was already sweat soaked ...
  8. And here I wanted to go give it a try ... 😋 I live closer to Bottelary than Tygerberg. My neighbour rides Bottelary often. When I started out a primary decider was a venue that catered for the family ... initially Meerendal, then Bloemendal. Those reasons are less of a factor now .. Still enjoy Tygerberg trails. Mostly easy miles, and a few bits if you want to play a bit. Adding the roughly 20km to and from the trails it is a nice outing. Coffee at Bloemies being part and parcel of the outing.
  9. Do try out Contermanskloof on your next visit.
  10. Meerendal has seen the biggest change in this time .... totally neglected and pretty messed up, until about a year ago. Patrick has done a decent job of repairing most of it. Slow first ride to scout for the bits still needing TLC. Dorstberg climb has been redone. Turn up BEFORE rhe bench after Stairway to Heaven. The Dorstberg decent is nice ... but take your time to learnt it .... been a few broken cyclists there .... Not sure of Hoogekraal. Rest pretty much as you remember it ... obviously wirh a few small layout changes. BIGGEST change .... risky cycling to the trails from the sea side .... plenty redistribution incidences ....
  11. Aaah, okay. Thanks I saw Cat 4 in the post explaining the different groups.
  12. How many ride in Cat 4 ? Is this racing only, or are there fun riders in Cat 4 ?
  13. As the BUYER I provided all my details to the business. Not sure where things went sideways ....
  14. Jip, the lip of the helmet serves as the visor long before the visor blocks the early morning sun .... they sit way too high. The only advantage ... it casts a nice shadow onto the front vent holes, providing some (needed) shade to my extended forehead ....
  15. Nope, not any more. My old Scott had this mesh. 2017 model. LOVED that helmet ! Now only the most entry level R500 helmets have the mesh. I walked the isles and SEARCHED all the helmets at CWC, CL, BikeAddict, Trek, Giant and Spez .... I WANTED that mesh ..... just cant find it any more. This was in December and January.
  16. Too late for those of us that leave home at 6:00 .... hiehie .... SMS would have been PERFECT !! Sadly they only sent it via email. I am used to other couriers that keep me posted via SMS throughout the process. Not this time.
  17. Realistically, I think 1 or 2 events got cancelled in the last couple of YEARS. Okay, make that three events - Lourensford (private event) made the call about 10 days before the event due severe flood damage and they realised they were not going to rebuild the trails in time. No risk on the day, just simply too much damage to the trails. Much more realistic chance of an event going ahead as a MUD-fest .... Friend did this 2 or 3 years back in Stellenbosch, with a Scott with only 800km on the clock .... NO !! a hose pipe does NOT get the grit out of the bearings .... That new bike required a FULL rebuild by the time he realised that a wash wont do ..... By all means, go play, this IS why we bought MTB's. But stand back after the event and make a call if the bike needs a "full service" .... please dont wait for the grit to rust up and destroy the bearings, free hub, BB, etc ....
  18. TWO possible situations: 1. PRIVATE FARM - such an event often dont jump through hoops for municipal approval. Calling the event off becomes a nightmare, as there often is not a specific "gate keeper" for the overall event safety. 2. Events that use municipal or district roads - now the organiser has to follow a set of By-Laws to obtain "event approval" from the Local Authority. There are multiple steps to such an aproval. The final go ahead is given 2 to 3 days before the event. Think it was in 2022 when the Round the Pot event in Swellendam was cancelled BY COUNCIL, due to severe storm warnings. Obviously LOTS of opinions on this. But it boils down to a legal framework to mitigate risks, not just for the event but for the greater community. During severe storms emergency services are on standby for the community, not for a sporting event .... I have dealt with this By-Law a few times, assisting organisers to get events going. It can be a time sapping exercise .... and the smallest details can hold back approval and cause lots of stres to the team ....
  19. Thats probably what might have happened if my wife could not get hold of me ..... Very silly system ... rather, very impractical.
  20. A few friends did their Baviaans prep on their trainers .... 5+ hour sessions 😬 I rather do a couple of shorter zwift rides, then head outside as soon as work schedule and the weather provides a gap. Cold weather is fine, but I try to not go out when rain is predicted.
  21. Nou nie n goeie storie met feite opvoeter nie .... 😛 (dont mess up a good story with facts)
  22. Next visit, have a serving of the apple pie at Lazy Lizzard
  23. Golf estates Big shopping malls Even the volunteer fire fighting has been upgraded to a full time fire fighting department. Actually a very nice setup they have there. No longer "platteland" .... And people best make sure to check the HOT dry climate before making the move .... personally I prefer the hot and dry over the humid coastal climate. But certainly not everybody's cup of tea.
  24. I received a small package from "The Courier Guy" last week. Actually, it was delivered at home and my wife received it ..... NOPE !!! "We sent you and email with a PIN number .... cant hand over the package without the PIN" This email was sent the day off the delivery .... For crying out loud ..... now my wife needs to phone me, while I am busy with a group project (often I am meetings where I cant answer my phone) .... need to log in to check my private emails for this infernal PIN ... So for those that WANT belts and braces .... The Courier Guy is your go to company. For those that dont have time for this during the day .... AVOID these clowns !!! PS - Would have made the world of difference if they sent out that PIN email the day before ....
