  1. The boy podiums at the school series mountainbike races. He got a 3rd place junior road champs in 2025. He cycles less these days as he has to focus on matric. He still performs well at track. He is one of the most genetically gifted cyclists Ive ever seen. He is sponsored by Demacon, I understand that they pay for race entries. SA cycling will never be what is use to be because riders like Erik lacked funding. Racing every weekend is by far the most vital part to become a pro. And you guys expect youngsters to pay R350 to R700 for a race?! Its not the 1970s where kids can just get some random side job like newspapers. Teams like Demacon is funded by a business guy who is extremely passionate about the sport. Im part of a team where our sponsor just sponsors us because we asked! not because he even has any interest in cycling. No sponsor will get any return on investment even if you win races like CTCT or 94.7. You only promote the sponsor under the cycling community and its very minimal coverage. Cycling is simply not a sport for kids whos parents cant afford it and definitely shouldnt be pushed as a development sport for kids in soweto. Ive seen countless development programs fail because investors stopped paying, and there was no funding. These programs only benefit a selected few where a sport like football can benefit more. Team Siata (a BEE team) failed after 2 years because it signed wayy to many riders and didnt meet sponsor expectations. Ive never heard of any modern day pro cyclist in SA who didnt have rich parents to fund the dream or a sponsor who paid for everything. The sport has become so unaffordable than even belgium is seeing a decrease in young riders.
  2. They say Pogi trained and raced on normal sugar in his younger days. Most of us simply cant afford R600 for a bottle of pvm that won't even last 2 weeks. I train on 120g of sugar and oros in each bottle. Last years road champ rides on simple plain sugar now and then, you would be surprised how many young guys race on sugar. Many expensive mixes include things that physiologically cannot influence performance in real time. What more do you need than carbs and salt.
  3. Some of you guys seem very pressed that I’m sharing my opinion and perspective, calling me a troll 😪 ... this is a forum chat after all. Even some of you agreed that there is likely more to the story and now you know this to be true, and that situations involving 17-year-olds can be more complex than people assume, even though they are still minors. Im not going to share any details online because I’m not interested in getting my account banned or turning this into rumours and speculation — especially when most people here don’t even use their real names. What people also need to understand is that CSA investigated complaints and imposed a sporting sanction, and Shaun paid big money to take CSA to High Court saying that CSAs reviewing process was unfair. And he lost, it doesnt mean he is guilty. Innocent until proven guilty right? Not big ol Jannet from CSA playing judge, jury and executioner. If this guy bothers you all so much, lets get him on the phone and ask him what happened 🤷🏼
  4. People are speaking as if they know exactly what happened when not one of you actually know anything. I remember the situation and won’t discuss details here, but there is definitely more to it, and people in the actual cycling/ racing community know what went on and that things weren’t as black-and-white as social media makes it sound. Lets not act as if 17 year olds are innocent. Situations like this are often more complicated than outsiders assume. What’s also not okay is dragging his wife and personal life into this, families shouldn’t be targeted. Discussing his wife is totally not fair. And calling him a bad coach because of him saying he is the best qualified coach in SA or whatever you guys said has nothing to do with the matter and just turns this into personal attacks. If it was "my daughter" comments is silly. Peoples daughters still train with him because guess what.. theres more to the story.
  5. This makes me feel like not riding my bike.. People only stop riding when its a friend or family member. The big issue isnt really our roads that is unsafe but the lawlessness we have in this country. Drunk drivers and people going way over the speed limit is mostly the cause. A girl riding for cycle nation made an instagram story saying how grateful she is for having a following vehicle after todays accident. A following vehicle is probably the safest thing to have - that or a Radar is the only solution I can think of.
  6. Send me a pic of how your glasses look please
  7. Lens inserts is just horrible. The sweat coming in between the lens and the blind spots is a huge problem for me. I wasted so much money thinking it would be the solution. Just go with contact lenses. I did have my contacts blown out by the wind 2 times in about 270 rides.
  8. Temu isnt a brand, its a shop. Stop saying my temu this and my temu that. That derailleur cage you bought off of temu is from a reputable brand called Cyclami. Northcliff cycles gets a bunch of different stuff from them. The latest handlebars everyone is buying is called Kocevlo and its available on temu. They are a well established brand overseas. People should do their own research what they are buying. Nobody has to disclose if its from temu or not.
  9. Measure biacromial width (distance between the outer edges of the shoulders) and add 20–40 mm on either side to estimate bar width. For her length a bar width of 660mm -690mm would be optimal. Especially with small female riders they have more control over their bikes with shorter cranks.
