  1. too late mate, it started out beyond the averge MTB'er. I see the usual media and influencers in the field so expect lots of instagram feed
  2. 50/32 is a 18 tooth jump, 2 more than recommended by OEMs if you’re opting g for mid compact I.e. 52/36 then you’re on the 16t limit for the front derailleur. Depending on your bikes chainstay length you may need to add a link back to the chain to accommodate the 52/36 a 53/38 or 53/39 will require 2 links to be added
  3. some events do pay athletes "appearance money".i.e. cover their costs of travel, accommodation, entry and maybe even a bit extra in exchange for use of their image to promote the event. It really depends on the sponsors willingness to accommodate this or the event organiser building it into the event running costs, which is partially or wholey cover by entry fee from ex golfers
  4. cost of recovery will outstrip the entry fee.
  5. all comms disappear down a black hole My tour du Cap entry went down that hole
  6. Yip, loads of us
  7. its gone, along with all the other events run by that event organiser
  8. You wish too hard. SRAM has two appointed distributors in south africa. Cape Cycle Systems and now Rush Sports
  9. entertaining or not, Strava CEO gettting shot down or not isn't relevant to what is being alledged. Feelings don't factor into the case. Suunto is now also suing Garmin for 5 patent infringements, relating to certain data monitoring and antennae placement
  10. hip-packs are basically hipster products. Some fluid and a social media device is all they're good for
  11. Yip, I use it to gauge my efforts against my DC teammates. We've already decided who is getting dropped on Tradouws but they don't even know it yet
  12. eish, your call
  13. Pretty sure thats not all of the pro mens field
  14. Kevin was saying at the launch event that they want to avoid that happening because the entry fee is already premium. They've gone into the inaugural event with the financials covered, unlike Cape Epic 2004-2008. BUt expect inflationary increases year on year or margin related increases as the events services build. Biggest problem for Saffas is earning ZAR
  15. they have both the left hand and right assemblies available but limited stock
  16. There was speculation that MVDP was also coming out to race it but basis his XCO World Champs declaration " I need a rest" I think that is off the cards. Jesper Styven is riding and apparently a couple of his Lidl Trek teammates are joining. Matej Morhoric also rumoured to be on the startline
  17. Rather stay home Furbz. 2cm is a big tear. How deep is it? My Epic partner tore his calf muscle during Stage 4 and only started cycling again 2 months ago. He needed about 3 months of physio before starting to place any meaningful load on it. The decision he is most thankful for is withdrawing from the race.. You're going to need that calf for suspension
  18. Its not so simple..... Strava supports a broader community than just its users. There is a multitude of other platforms that feed off it to provide ride data services, e.g. Intervals.icu. Garmin doesn't support those types of businesses as far as I can tell. I suspect there's more to the patent infringement claim than Strava are disclosing. Garmin appears to have implemented it first, but did they develop it off the back of Strava IP that wasn't launched yet but was covered under NDA? This is one to follow closely as the facts and truth emerges
  19. I love reading the romanticized version of the Cycletour because its as disconnected from reality as Star Wars😅 If you're riding a dikwiel and stopping at every coffee shop to pick up sunday Nights date then maybe its all rose and caviar, but for most its a battle to the cramp, a wheelsuckers paradise realising dreams built on others blood sweat and tears. it IS the Fun Ride World Champs!!!!
  20. or gravel gearing for the road bike if it can accommodate the chainline
  21. Besides, going at 104km out is inspiring for March
  22. There’s a few ancient front shifters that could do double duty. Friction shifters, campag’s original ergo power front shifter was also just A fine ratchet. None are available over the counter any longer
  23. he needs a triple left front shifter as well. There is no way a mechanical shifter can be 2x and 3x compatible at the same time. These units have completely different cable pull. If you're confused by the ST7801/ST7803 designation that is listed as such because the Left hand shifter is ST7803 for triple and the right hand shifter is ST7801 which matches the 10speed RD7800 rear derailleur
  24. you now they don't make those anylonger right? Neither the ST7801 nor the ST7803 and they're not the same lever. They only share the brake lever and rubber hood.
