  1. @ChrisF maybe ADD Trans Augrabies to the list?
  2. ...taken from another thread )non-Hub), recently a Hubber wanted to do the Epic as their 1st stage race, was shocked at the cost; at the time, I did think about just how MANY less-expensive alternatives there were; here, pinched from a different Forum, is a handy quick (rough) comparison of cots of various (n-o-t all!) stage races, obvs of differing length/differing offerings: KAP sani2c: ~R15,000 – R20,000 per team (~R7,500 – R10,000 per person). FNB Wines2Whales: ~R16,000 – R20,000 per team (~R8,000 – R10,000 per person). Cape Pioneer Trek: ~R20,000 – R25,000 (Solo/Tented). Berg & Bush: ~R12,000 – R15,000 per team (~R6,000 – R7,500 per person). The 36ONE MTB Challenge: ~R3,700 – R3,900 (Full 361km Solo). The Munga: ~R29,999 (1,130km Solo). The Freedom Challenge (RASA): ~R35,000 – R45,000 (2,150km, including support stations). Absa Cape Epic: ~R113,750 per team (~R56,875 per person). Cheers Chris

  4. …copied from a Hout Bay Forum, nice sentiments… “Sad to pass a team from Cape Air Conditioning, planting a cross and watering flowers at the site where their late contracts manager, Landon La Grange, was hit by the taxi near 12 Apostles”

  6. Police request for eyewitness information wrt recent accident on Coastal Road:
  7. His leg had to be amputated Both arms broken Fighting for his life. So very, very unnecessary, and so terribly sad.
  8. 🚨 *Road Closure* 🚨 A Taxi has collided with multiple cyclists on Victoria Road near the 12 Apostles, 1 of the cyclists has been seriously injured. 1 lane is currently closed and stop & go is in place. A helicopter has been activated and both lanes will imminently be closed. Please use alternative routes.
  9. …and seriously CONSIDER looking at 2nd hand units; they provide very good value, batteries MOSTLY are a non-issue, and you can then check out -affordably - what ‘works’ for you, and what other functions you really NEED, etc. Many, many people get ‘upgade-itis’, and need the latest model, making for an attractive 2nd-hand market - I am one of them!
  10. @thejoshswin can you please update the group on a likely another attack, 10-odd days ago, same area, and someone you knew… It will help reinforce just how ‘bad/ regular’ the situation on that part is, and FURTHER forewarn others. Cheers Chris
  11. s-o-m-e cyclists don't carry - I know of 2 that do...down here in Slaapstad...

@Stephan some very valid comments you make there, and well done on your second C.E.! I very much like your idea (idea No. 7?) whereby the overall medal contains the 8 'segments' of the previous (completed) 8 stages - I think that is worth pursuing with the organizers, as an idea! (the organization is so very Corporate now, that getting ideas across might be difficult, whereas in the Kevin Vermaak/Katy days, there seemed to be more willingness to listen to good suggestions...) Nice to read your thoughts - well done! Chris
  13. ...another brilliant 'moon set', again, pics do not do it justice, but simply brilliant morning for riding!
  14. If you look briefly at the report for CT dated 20th March versus report for CT for 27th March, you can see there is somewhat of an (expected) decline; things hopefully trending downwards for Winter, until next September! My brain fart - tables for last 2 weeks NOW ATTACHED, for comparison !!!! week ending 27th March https://pollencount.co.za/report/27-march-2026-2/ week ending 20th March https://pollencount.co.za/report/20-march-2026/
  15. Event REALLY does seem brilliant, catering for SO MANY different cyclist, runners, etc. Placed it on my ‘must do…’ list for the future. Will follow this thread with interest! Chris
  16. Subscribe, esp. since I learn a lot about the ELECTRONIC side of your (impressive) setup, and I like the way you show intended route, and detailed bike rig setup. Traveling vicariously with you, and ALSO keen to see how you traverse ‘Die Leer’; I have seen other (global) Bike Packers who also need to traverse with their bags separate from their bike down/up a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, by making up a simple double-ended strap to carry 2 panniers across the shoulders, allowing hands-free scrambling/climbing/ whatever! Am not religious, but God-speed, and fair-weather/tail winds all the way! Chris
  17. I feel you need to know whether you have a BOOST frame or a NON-boost frame as a starting point, THEN you can read up on which of the 2 would be suitable for your EXACT bike. Boost vs. NOn- boost affects the chain line (alignment), and the various offsets ‘correct’ the alignment accordingly… Just my limited understanding; others will reply here, and you can read further, but start with boost or non-boost understanding.
  18. Good chatting, hopefully George, or else CT can help, enjoy! Chris
  19. ...the 1st store I rang had/can get one, (in Large...) at that price - GECO Cycles, in Cape Town (Frank...), but if you are up country, SAME offer should apply... they ARE out there, deeply discounted... Cheers Chris 072 211 7725
  20. there are STILL new special-offers of the (older model) REVOLT model, at a sweetheart price - available - saw an Ad. just a couple of days back, will do a search for you... https://giant-bicycles.co.za/products/revolt-deep-lake?available%20colours=deep%20lake&available%20sizes=xs (the older Revolt model does not have the in-frame storage, and is10x. 10x with 2 chain rings works well, my opinion...). The newer Revolt was 11spd... SERIOUSLY capable bikes, etc. RRP:R25,490.00 (reduced from R32,990.00)

...just maybe there WAS an unacknowledged woman who ACCOMPANIED Pheidippides on his run from Marathon, to Athens? …or was she doing the HALF-marathon? 🫡

…this MIGHT be a poor comparison; TdF MEN is 333km in 2026, TdF FEMME is 1176km, and it is the longest-ever distance for TdF Femme…, you argument ‘leaks’…! (edit: saw the same comment made earlier!) Cheers Chris
  23. There were TWO Brompton folders 10 days ago on Facebook Market Place, will take a look to see if Ads still up…
  24. @Shebeen, yup, better to try, and fail, than, well, you know…! 🗯️
  25. Yes, the ‘showing’ of the water bottle WAS a real thing back in the days of Vets and League racing; trust me, there were PLENTY of bike-handling skills in those groups, but it was a courtesy in tightish fields indicating you were about to drink; …with the best will in the world, there could be a MICRO-slowing when removing, then drinking, then replacing the bottle - the ‘show’ just alerted other cyclists that there could be a micro-slowdown occurring, and everyone respected - and mostly practiced - it. The League group included professional Triathletes, past Argus winners, and people with National Colours - it may well have fallen into disuse these days; back then, in a fast, focussed group riding at quite some speed, it just ‘worked’.
