  1. Now if Greg can win again on Sunday ...
  2. Weather forecast for tomorrow to looking promising. Hope I am wrong, but have nagging feeling the Austrian and Frenchman are the new world champs. VPN: clear all your cookies and web data for chosen browser; otherwise Red Bull TV will sniff out where you are. When it asks of you want to switch to the X country (you are supposedly in) say Yes. VPNs always slower (because the routing is a lot more complex), so not much you can do about that. Literally switching off my smartphone sped up the connection ...
  3. Unfortunately they don't (only the DH and XC races).
  4. Does anyone know if the eMTB race today will be streamed somewhere? Or only the main DH and XC races over the weekend?
  5. Watch the replay: a line of barriers a few meters down the line was in her way, she could not give Evie more room. Nino's sprint-and-cover Arevalo's front wheel looked a lot more aggressive (great save by Arevalo/acceptable). What's the etiquette in cycling: this sort of behaviour okay?
  6. I was suckered into paying for Ryder pedals (can't remember which model) and: Out the box both were bent Replaced with new pedals and neither worked particularly well (clip-in, release action) Signs of rust within days Took them off, fitted Shimano SPDs (which cost only a little more) and: Everything straight and true Clipping in/out is – and remains – a dream A few years down the line zero rust No evidence that I need to service or replace them any time soon (touch wood) I have a Ryder torch which I quite like (used as torch at home, not on bike ... too weak for that), but apart from that I walk wide circles around anything they make print their name on.
  7. Well, you could argue it was a PB (of sorts). Sorry to hear that, and truly hope you heal up soon. And phew ... 40-45 km/h is pretty impressive ... my legs go blurry when I reached 30 km/h.
  8. Surely WHERE you ride (over WHAT you ride) is the more pertinent question?
  9. I have (or rather: had) the Giant flat pedals. Meh. The nubs rust quickly (I live near the sea). Not bad value for money but you might well yearn for something better. If I had to buy again (unlikely: have cleats) I would seriously consider the Crank Brother flatties that Hairy posted above. A little more money and you get pedals from people that specialise in making pedals. * I have never owned Crank Brothers anything; I ride with Shimano pedals that work just fine (and have been for a good while now, sea air or not).
  10. I had the Lezyne side-entry cage: didn't like it at all. It clutches my bottles like an insecure gorilla, and I need 30 kg of pull to release it from said gorilla. And that was the easy part ... then I needed to squeeze back into the spiteful gorilla's fist. Bought the Spez version: overpriced hopelessly and worth every cent.
  11. Idea of frame cost (and did that include wheels, fork etc)? And of course: more photographs always welcome.
  12. Garmin's servers down (again). (hijack on/) I *might* have a Lezyne Macro GPS to sell if anyone super keen (strictly speaking it's not for sale, as I occasionally use it to track walks, but I could be persuaded to part with it – also have Mega XL for cycling). PM me for details. (/hijack off)
  13. I have the not-colour Mega XL. Better half the Garmin. The Garmin is beautiful. I am jealous. But the Garminf doesn't connect. Needs a restart. Now update the firmware. Then the app. Oh, it cannot see GPSs when it's cloudy (to be fair, once in a while it does work flawlessly ). The Lezyne: like a tractor ... just keeps going no matter what you throw at it.
  14. @Jewbacca No clue. Don't know the venue, don't know the person who owns it. Only taking the FB video statement at face value. If the venue is at fault, well ... all bets off.
  15. No. If he crossed his Ts and dotted his Is, as he claims, then he should have no trouble convincing a judge the police were wrong. That's the easy part, and will allow him to open the gates again. Why? Getting money out of them will be a long fight, I agree. But us South Africans have a long history of accepting the incompetence of our government officials. And then moan about it. Do something, throw the rule book back at them. Others have, and won, setting precedence for future disagreements.
  16. Take SAPS to court. Then claim for lost revenue. * instead of harping on about whomever 'ratted him out'.
  17. Had a Holdfast. It's heavy, feels a little over-engineered, very cumbersome to fit to tow-ball and fiddly to use with hoop between bikes. Bought a Thule (had paid the excess for Thule roof racks and cradles and roof box years ago – believe in the brand) and am very happy with the upgrade. Dead-easy to fit (and lock), super easy to mount bikes and stows comfortably on the garage wall. Thule parts always available (if not in SA then get a mate in Europe to drop it into a box and courier to you). Expensive? Sure! All well-made bike racks are! It probably does cost a little more than similar racks but the simplicity of use makes up for that. Cannot comment on the other brands mentioned. Have only had positive experience with Thule and their sales outlets and will only look at Thule when I need another rack in 80 years' time.
  18. That's a great first bike, more so if you can get 20% of that price. Welcome, nice one.
  19. We have the laws. Just enforce them strictly and the problem will magically go away. Of course this also means the days of drifting through a stop street on your bicycle will be over. But I'll take that over the wild west we currently have.
  20. Ouch. Feel terrible for the rider, and much worse for the son (and who knows who else), but if this was the outcome of playing superbiker then, well.
  21. Some years ago three guys attacked a runner – who happened to have a black belt in Karate – near in Durban (I think it was). He killed two of them.
