  1. Cheers @Scary Rider, doesn't look like it.
  2. Any way to track riders?
  3. Cape weather forecasts: yesterday it predicted an event-cancelling SE, today most seem to think light(-ish) N/NW with some rain. Things are looking up. 😅
  4. Weather forecasting at the bottom of a continent, one that pokes into the South Atlantic, is always going to difficult. I've found good accuracy in windfinder.com, and for temperatures yr.no. BUT only within 2-3 days before an event. windy.com (or windyty.com) can also provide some useful data.
  5. What is 'not expensive'? Also ... will need to run this through a VPN (more money). It's difficult to see how this will benefit the sport, but hopefully things will become clearer during the course of this year. Who knows, it might even be better than it already is.
  6. Hmmmm. I see Discovery Sports is taking over the broadcasting of XC as from 2023. Hope we can still get a live feed (without paying). Link.
  7. Sorry to hear about the crash. Broken nose ... okay. Vertebra ... eish. 46 is young. The BMX craze hit South Africa when I was just the right age and that translated nicely into madness on a mountain bike when that followed a few years later. When you are in your teens or twenties you know everything and unbreakable and do the dumbest things imaginable. Luckily rock climbing saved me from doing anything truly dumb on a bicycle 😳, and doing utterly stupid things on a mountain with far too little (and inferior) gear had me back off climbing mountains for a bit. Then I had to work for a living and, fast forward a few decades, found myself with a mountain bike again. Naturally, I could still do all those things I could when I was 19. Only I couldn't. I kept falling over. Kept getting bucked over the bars. So I have re-adjusted what I want out of cycling. I no longer have to be John Tomac, just enjoying a long twee-spoor with both wheels on the ground is just fine. I haven't smacked the ground or visited the doctor for many months and still love cycling as much as ever. All you have to do is change what you want from it.
  8. A steenbok weighs around 11 kg. That poor thing stopped a mountain bike with 60/70 kg rider dead in its tracks. Smarter flying (further out) will hugely relieve the stress on the wildlife in the area. There is far too much heli footage deliberately flushing wildlife and birdlife in mtb race footage for no other reason to get a (supposed) good shot. If you are there for the beauty of the ears than scaring the wits out of wildlife is just Not Epic.
  9. Absolutely. Who knows I might even have dumped my medical aid and called Momentum and bought a swathe of Biogens. 🙄
  10. No live tracking anywhere? No rolling news feed? Nothing on the Dryland app?
  11. Can't any discussion about this anywhere else? Kicks off 3 Feb. Their website https://tankwatrek.co.za Stage 1 https://tankwatrek.co.za/route-info/#stage1 Stage 2 https://tankwatrek.co.za/route-info/#stage2 Stage 3 https://tankwatrek.co.za/route-info/#stage3 Stage 4 https://tankwatrek.co.za/route-info/#stage4 Hoping we see their usual live feed again this year (even if it is iffy). 😉
  12. And trying to bribe a tow-truck diver to flee an accident scene is not evidence enough? Add to this DNA from front third of car. The rest of the peloton involved in the accident: is their testimony not good enough? 🤬
  13. Assuming ongoing parts stocks remains an issue: pretty disappointing how Silverback has turned their backs on SA clients. 🤨
  14. A run down Platteklip (and work some contour path into it) could (with the help of a trail crew and a load of money) be an epic DH run. Yes yes I know no ski-lifts or any heli-evacs etc ...
  15. +1 for a rider port from @Vetseun. I only followed two riders this year and Mr V was one of them. Impressed when he overtook the cut-off marker, marker when his dot stopped at Ceres. But bloody impressed with his tenacity regardless of not taking the cut ( ... this year 😸).
  16. You're doing great. Enjoy the cooler evening. ????
  17. Leave a bike with Apple AirTag attached to it. Let SAPS know beforehand and follow the f*wit home.
  18. This is the most disappointing part. Hope you find your bike. Hope we, one day, get actual policing.
  19. I could tell you it's mine. But I would be lying. Helluva desirable bike, hope it finds its way home. Good on ya for sharing here. ????
  20. Google sez https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/uswe and https://bicyclegarage.co.za/products/uswe-outlander-2-with-1-5l-hydration-bladder and https://mx24.co.za/shop/mx-enduro/rider-accessories/hydration-packs/uswe-xc-elite-hydration-pack-light/
  21. USWE is a (Swedish) brand. Available in SA.
  22. The pass to Wellington is closed for maintenance.
  23. Karl Platt out??????? Runny tummy for Karl. He must be ... well ... gutted. ????
  24. (Asking on behalf of the uninformed morons, like myself) Who is @babse? ????‍♂️
  25. Select Stage 1 (any of the Stage pages will probably work), click Results tab, select Stage 1 GC in drop-down list.
