  1. "Lifetime warranty", what does that mean?
  2. I realised i never fully answered your question. No issues with GPS at all (give it a minute or so to find them, after that rock solid). Elevation data is, I think, barometric (alongside GPS data); meaning much more accurate that GPS-data-only devices. The XL gives me gradient info (which it derives from your forward movement, so there is a slight lag) which is great (if useless) info on long climbs. The landscape screen orientation is fantastic: massive and clear numbers. As far as I know colour screens cannot (yet) match mono screens for clarity in sunlight (not that it bothers me, very happy with just black+white). The Mega XL also allows you to invert the black and white, so black screen with 'white' numbers (to go with that black bike ... ).
  3. I have a Mega XL and am very happy with it. It does what is says it should do (without three restarts and constant firmware upgrades ... cough, cough Garmin).

    The Munga 2020

My Google-zu is letting me down. Can anyone please point me in the direction of the tracking site please?
  5. My wife ordered a bib from them: arrived and it's hopelessly asymmetrical (as in cut skew). Still comfortable and usable ... but wondering where QC was on that day.
  6. Congratulations to Deprela for the Overall. rain.
  7. Different course today.
  8. Now if Greg can win again on Sunday ...
  9. What's/who's CFR?
  10. Weather forecast for tomorrow to looking promising. Hope I am wrong, but have nagging feeling the Austrian and Frenchman are the new world champs. VPN: clear all your cookies and web data for chosen browser; otherwise Red Bull TV will sniff out where you are. When it asks of you want to switch to the X country (you are supposedly in) say Yes. VPNs always slower (because the routing is a lot more complex), so not much you can do about that. Literally switching off my smartphone sped up the connection ...
  11. Unfortunately they don't (only the DH and XC races).
  12. Does anyone know if the eMTB race today will be streamed somewhere? Or only the main DH and XC races over the weekend?
  13. Watch the replay: a line of barriers a few meters down the line was in her way, she could not give Evie more room. Nino's sprint-and-cover Arevalo's front wheel looked a lot more aggressive (great save by Arevalo/acceptable). What's the etiquette in cycling: this sort of behaviour okay?
  14. Idea of frame cost (and did that include wheels, fork etc)? And of course: more photographs always welcome.
  15. Garmin's servers down (again). (hijack on/) I *might* have a Lezyne Macro GPS to sell if anyone super keen (strictly speaking it's not for sale, as I occasionally use it to track walks, but I could be persuaded to part with it – also have Mega XL for cycling). PM me for details. (/hijack off)
  16. I have the not-colour Mega XL. Better half the Garmin. The Garmin is beautiful. I am jealous. But the Garminf doesn't connect. Needs a restart. Now update the firmware. Then the app. Oh, it cannot see GPSs when it's cloudy (to be fair, once in a while it does work flawlessly ). The Lezyne: like a tractor ... just keeps going no matter what you throw at it.
  17. Some years ago three guys attacked a runner – who happened to have a black belt in Karate – near in Durban (I think it was). He killed two of them.
  18. Of course there is! How else will Shimano convince you to buy version 2 (and 3, and 4)?
  19. Mine is a Euroway. I went for that because I am a cheapskate. The Euroway's hitch clamp is: Lift Position on hitch Close (and lock if you like) Couldn't be easier. Could be lighter though, and might be worth comparing the Euroway weight against that of the VeloCompact. And judging from the pictures it looks like sliding the tyre grooves out will be easier with the VeloCompact (which has handles for that purpose). Not convinced that's worth R2000 though. But then again I am a cheapskate.
  20. The Zwift web developer is on an extended holiday. The Elite Suito, which comes with a free 1-month Zwift subscription, is not listed.
  21. @Eugene mind elaborating on the founder of Trek, I find the South African connection quite interesting (but my Google-zu leaves me high and dry).
  22. Theoretically the longer the (within reason) lens the less the distortion. Assuming you have a half-decent camera body and lens something like Lightroom will recognise the lens and can automatically correct distortion, vignetting etc. If Lightroom (or similar) doesn't recognise your camera/lens then you can adjust manually. If you have more than one flash then have them face backward onto a light featureless wall. This will send soft and mostly highlight-free light back to the map (assuming you shoot the map on a vertical surface). Nasa uses plain DSLRs to 'scan' their medium-format negatives and positives (rather than an actual scanner). Of course maps require much higher ceilings ...
  23. Or back light.
  24. How many mountain bikers use their bikes to its full potential? Very few, I'd think. Southern Africa is literally criss-crossed with perfect gravel roads. Millions of kilometres of them. A road bike is obviously not the best choice of tool for district (or worse) roads, a mountain bike is good but perhaps overkill. The gravel bike is near perfect. Plus you can tuck in when there is wind or just enjoy the many different hand positions for relief. They weigh little, have tough wheels and very decent brakes (if hydraulic) and are pretty cheap to maintain. Get a second set of wheels and skinny tyres and you have a pretty reasonable CTCT machine as well. What's not to like? And no, you don't have to grow a beard and drink yuppie coffee.
