1. All legit. Checked his twitter. And he showed photo of his broken wheel. What bad luck after also going down hard on stage 1.
2. Agreed... what a great race and organisation! What Jaco are you talking about? Ferreira?
3. There's some cool pics on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
4. Well done everyone! Tough day, but we rode hard. Legs a bit wobbly!
5. Tough but great stage 1!
6. I guess the problem is the use of the word "volunteer", because it's not what the ACE is using it for. volunteer
ˌvɒlənˈtɪə/
noun noun: volunteer; plural noun: volunteers
1. a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. "a call for volunteers to act as foster-parents" synonyms: subject, participant, case, client, patient; More informalguinea pig "during the investigation, each volunteer was studied three times" a person who freely enrols for military service rather than being conscripted, especially a member of a force formed by voluntary enrolment and distinct from the regular army. a plant that has not been deliberately planted. [*] 2. a person who works for an organization without being paid. "the railway is operated solely by volunteers" Law a person to whom a voluntary conveyance or disposition is made. verb verb: volunteer; 3rd person present: volunteers; past tense: volunteered; past participle: volunteered; gerund or present participle: volunteering 1. freely offer to do something. "140 employees volunteered for redundancy" offer (help) freely. "he volunteered his services as a driver for the convoy" synonyms: offer, tender, proffer, present, put forward, put up, venture More "I volunteered my services as a school governor" antonyms: refuse, withdraw say or suggest something without being asked. "it never paid to volunteer information" commit (someone) to a particular undertaking, typically without consulting them. "he was volunteered for parachute training by friends" [*] 2. work for an organization without being paid. "volunteering is an easy way to get involved in practical conservation" synonyms: offer one's services, present oneself, step forward, come forward, make oneself available More
7. Welcome Kobus. Happy cycling and happy hubbing!
8. All I can do is share my hours training and maybe the split between my three zones according to heart rate? Then you can compare. Obviously some can train less or more for the same effect.
9. Yeah don't worry, I also don't understand it. It's as if they are doing you a favour. And it's not like they're a non-profit. Imagine if the platinum mines said, come hand out water in the mines, and you only have to pay so much to do it. But I guess that is part of the prestige of the Epic that was built up. And auctioning off your guaranteed entry form... true capitalism at work... and I guess kudos for the initiative.
10. I have to disagree with you here. Meat is very nutritional and not only for the life needed protein and fat. I guess the answer lies in what works for you. But I think we all now that things like processed and chemically treated food is bad for you.
11. Of course. Or as much as those bionic armband things that went around... and round.
12. What exactly do you mean by "didn't feel fully recovered"? Do you mean nutritional wise, muscles sore and/mentally? It is normal to be sore the next day and tired. There are a lot of fads and personal choices, but in my mind the best is just to eat right before, during and after and also to rest after the stage.
13. Yes I know cyclists have killed 100s of people by safely crossing red robots and taxis none. On the other hand, we have to take responsibility for our actions.
14. Dude why so agro? I think it's a legitimate question in asking why they can't seed late entries. Sometimes they make us feel that they are doing us a favour while we are the paying customer. I entered for the Wilro late on the Friday and got my seeding.
15. Sneaky frogs... South Africa fights to protect rooibos tea name after French trademark bid http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/25/south-africa-rooibos-tea-france
16. There is definitely not one only way to improve your cycling. Base might still be best for pro cyclists who have 6 hours a day, but there has been a lot of research showing that if you only have 10 hours a week it's actually better to have structured intervals, hard and then easy, instead of moderate base. In any case, intervals also improves your base. For those that missed it, the OP said he basically has a month to train and from "I work Monday-Friday 7am-6pm" I'm assuming he can do about 10 hours a week. In that case I would train 5 days a week, two of about an hour each with very hard intervals, two for active recovery and one long ride. But that's just me. I'm not a sports scientists so I probably don't know much. But I do read a lot!
17. Giant was smashed. Got a new one from insurance
18. I wonder what a real Pinarello is really worth. And no, price does not equal value.
19. That is the exact opposite that he must do! I would go for interval type training. E.g. fartleks. Hard, easy. Not a lot of moderate in between TITS.
20. It works brilliantly! And I also get those thin butcher type plastic gloves for under my cycling gloves. Then also the normal newspaper for the body, etc.
21. Nooo stretch... don't burst the hub's generalisation bubble... it's always so fun to read.
22. True. I remember talking about it years ago with friends and we still joked about the horse/player facing the wrong way. I head JC Crew is the same with Edgars (or whoever sells it) and it has nothing to do with the real JC Crew although it looks almost similar.
23. I agree 100% about refunding customers. But this brings in an interesting question; if you do something illegal, should you actually make right by your clients AND hand yourself over to police? Or only the former? It's a whole different topic so let's not get sidetracked.
