  2. Yup, more details would be great! I.e. distance, pace, route.
  3. Hahaha... when I'm fit I can usually swim just over 50m underwater But on a serious note though, it's good mentally knowing that if for some reason you can't take a breath when you need to, you'll still survive!
  4. Most of the pointers have been covered already, but in my experience the most important ones are: - Just get comfortable in the water, you waste a lot of energy and oxygen when you "fight" the water. - Practice breathing on both sides, even though it feels uncomfortable at first you'll adapt quickly. - Practice hypoxic breathing - breathing every 5, 7, or 9 strokes. Ie do a set of a 100, where you swim 25 breathing every 5, 25 breathing every 7, 25 every 7, 25 breathing every 5 - And then just practice, practice, practice. The only way you will get good at swimming, is swimming!

  6. You're a tough a crowd! I'll have something posted by tonight! (aka before midnight)
  7. Btw, I wonder how many calories you will burn tapping your fingers on the desk for the next few hours?
  8. I'll get the results updated and posted soon. This work thing is getting in the way of my hubbing time!
  9. Dudes and Dudettes, Get your workouts logged, and with the nice looonnngggg... weekend starting soon there's plenty of opportunity to get in some extra rides, runs, and swims in!
  10. Move to CT and we'll invite you!
  11. Will do. It may be a while until I get back to you, she's just moved up there. But I'll PM you the info.
  12. My swim coach just moved up to GP, not sure where though, but she's awesome. I can find out where if you'd like.
  13. You can start again... Nothing's stopping you...
  14. Thanks for the info, I am with CT Masters. And from my understanding the WP Master's chair sent the e-mail out to everyone, ie all the different clubs. But with Nationals and a few other galas that we've had not too many people want to participate at the moment.
  15. Hi Guys and Gals, I've been participating in a UCT/Sports Science Institute swimming study on whether you are a morning or evening person and what affect that has on your training and performance. It's pretty interesting, and time commital for it is minimal. But in order for them to complete the study they need more swimmers in the Cape Town area. Only thing they require is that you swim at least 3 times a week and have been for the last 8 weeks or more. It consists of 3 visits. First is an introductory meeting and they take a blood sample to perform a DNA analysis. And then the 2nd and 3rd "visits" you need to swim 600m warm up with a 200m time trial. One in the morning and one in the evening. Please let me know if you may be interested or know of anyone that may be and I'll get you in touch with the people leading the study. Thanks! Lizé
  16. Orally with a digital thermometer.
  17. Hahaha... Very funny you guys! And apparently it seems that I am a total ditz today because I didn't read the instructions and misread my temperature! It's still low though, but not THAT low! Good thing though, because I was worried that my ex was right in calling me a frigid biatch!
  18. So I signed up to participate in a study to determine the effect your circadian rythym has on your training and performance habits. Part of this is to take your body temperature every hour a day before a clinical test. So far my highest temp has been 34 C and that was after drinking coffee. In doing some research, I fall drastically outside what is considered to be normal body temperature, which is 36.8+/-0.4 C. I’ve always had a low body temperature but seeing the numbers has gotten me thinking if anyone else has body temperatures outside the norm?

  20. Hahaha... figured as much!
  21. Dare I ask how you came up with HoseMan?
  22. Oh, and with all the name changes, please give me an indication of who is who now, I've managed to loose the plot somewhere along the line and need to keep my spreadsheets up to date!
