  1. Add Klapperkop to that list. Some nice routes and climbs there too. We do home to Groenkloof, then: 1 x Fountains 1 x Voortrekker 1 x Klapperkop 1 x Groenkloof and back home. Gives us around 80 km. So, by doing either Voortrekker or Groenkloof twice will give you 100. I stay in Centurion, so its only 13km to Groenkloof for me.
  2. Where can I get the results of yesterday's Voriberg race? Its not on www.waterpoint.co.za yet and I can't imagine it should take this long. Or am I just spoiled with other timing groups being MUCH faster?
  3. O, the daybike.co.za site is down.
  4. I saw a flyer a while back of a company renting out bikes. If I remember correctly it was something like www.daybike.co.za I haven't checked the URL so apollogy if its wrong. I also heard once that Bruce Rynecke in Pta rents out bikes. But u have to take what they have available.

  6. I bought a new bike just under a month ago with a SRAM 2x10 setup (coming from a Shimano 3x10). I always though the lowest and highest gears would be the same, with just fewer options in between, which suited me just fine. My new bike rides like a preprogrammed machine in Groenkloof, Fountains, Voortrekker and Klapperkop. During the 94.7 (with slicks) I never moved off the big blade and held my own between the road bikes - though I'm sure a faster group would have left me wanting. This past weekend was my first serious climb (Breedt's Neck). I thought I struggled more than usual getting up and over, but on the way back climbed with a friend for a while (3x9) and was shocked to realise that his cadence was much higher than mine while moving the same speed. I only then realised that my new granny is not as much granny as my previous granny. Though this instilled new fear for Sabie I actually prefer training on the higher ratio. I'm not an A batch rider, but I think the more you train strength, the less you use the lower ratios. I would love to be able to ride big 1x10, but I still need that small blade to get me over big climbs.
  7. Interesting thing happened tonight: just as I was about to get on my indoor trainer in the garage, my HR spiked to 113%, without even touching the bike. Might be due to the electric fence energizer. Any way, it seems to fit with the suggestions above. And, I do have a Polar HRM ...not nice. Unfortunately my watch only records time spent in a zone, so I can't even check if there were spikes during a ride. I guess this is a beter answer than a max HR of over 200, though thats not totally ruled out yet. Thanks for your advice.
  8. Ja, ja, I HEAR you. Will fix it.
  9. Is the bike that makes the view, or the view that makes the bike?
  10. But, is there no risk with a HR that high? Are the guys who are struggling to reach 188 not the only guys who are really meant to do marathon races? I don't mind and quite enjoy pushing myself as much as I can, but is there not a long term price on doing it? Won't it damage my heart or health in the long run?
  11. So, I just increase my max to the highest value I achieve when riding? That works for me! Guess I was just told by too many people that I am at the brink of a heart attack
  12. very cool!!
  13. I found that the most common way of calculating your max heart rate is 220 - Age. If you are reasonably fit they say you can add 1 or 2, so I use 186 as my max. On the indoor trainer I can easily stay between 70 - 90%, but regularly perform in the 90th percentile while racing or on an outdoor training session. My average will then easily be 90-94%. When I ride between 92-96% I hardly feel different or realise any extra physical exertion, but realise this is not ideal. I exceeded 100% quite often in a race. I have also read that if you exceed 100%, this value becomes your new max. This means I have to increase my max to 212, which, except for the fact that it makes the indoor training sessions ridiculous, I can imagine is quite dangerous. Is it possible that my heart rate can vary that much, or am I slowly looking for serious trouble? My resting heart rate is naturally lower compared to the average. I just cannot get myself to slow down while out on my bike.
  14. Highveld, Centurion (Tshwane) Am looking for a pic, will post. Bastard(s) 'climbed over' my indoor trainer (brand new, still cardboard on) to get to my bike. Left my wife's bike on the wall and everything else in the garage.
  15. Went cycling in Groenkloof last week Friday and picked up a cycle computer. If anyone lost one, or know of someone who did, please contact me. If you can identify the brand, I'll meet you in Groenkloof to give it to you/him/her.
  16. Please be on the lookout for my bike. It got stolen from my garage last night Bike specs: - 2011 Scott Spark 40 (Large) - Fulcrom Red Metal 5 wheels - Conti Race King back tyre and Conti Mountain King front - WTB Silverado saddle - Handlebar: Easton E50 flat bar - Easton E50 stem - Sigma cycle computer - 2 black Specialized bottle cages (one on seat post - had toolbox in)
  17. It took me almost 50 mins of continuously clicking that submit button to get on the waiting list. Now, I guess I'm so far down that waiting list, it won't pay off.
  18. Been using it for about a year now, and I absolutely love it. Actually bought the Pro version. Just don't judge it by using the GPS tracker indoors, like in a mall. Hardly any GPS will give an accurate reading like that.
  19. Sounds like Cradle Quest is now a 1 day event. Magalies Adventure is a 3 day, with the first day a 25km night ride on the Friday. Unfortunately is also looks like entries for this event closed on 30 June. At R5000 per team, its not really cheap either.
  20. Nevermind, I guess here: http://www.magaliesadventure.co.za/
  21. OK, brilliant. Where can I get more detail of that?
  22. Why not keep it a mini-stage race? Gauteng needs something like that, but while keeping the cost doable for most riders. Without accomodation arangements, it really should not be much more expensive than two single day events. There are races covering that area, what would make his race stand out?
  23. , thanks guys
  24. Are the team entries for Cradle Quest 2011 closed?
