I was also thinking Alpe d Huez Dave but not if the wife goes along which she will. I will however be in the Alps around that time so you never know hey!!! Well I emailed Felix and asked nicely for an entry. I said that I would pay for it but I needed one guaranteed. I also reminded him of CCT and he basically responded with offering me one for free for 2014 which I duly accepted.... I will forward you that email now dAVEm. Just don't everybody now try it as I am sure he wont give everybody a free entry. After all the Garf is a celebrity now so no wonder he did what he did...

So thusfar its myself and Gunston doing Roth 2014. And Swissvan and one or two other hubbers has made some noises but nothing is confirmed. I thought maybe we can share some ideas on here in terms of the administration of a trip like this... It looks like you can expect roughly to pay around R8,000 per human being for the flights even though Lufthansa will run a special for athletes which one normally assumes will include free bike transport etc.... Emirates also flies as does SAA even though I would rather not make use of them Now then... is there a lekker train that goes from Fankfurt to Roth? Also post race.... Is there a train that will take us straight to the Alpe du Huez in time to see the peleton blow past??? A lot of things needs to be sorted out first like the TDF routes etc.. I just want to get some ideas of what is on offer. Roth is normally mid July.. If we have 10 days after the Roth race... how will they be spent the best way... Paris.... Belgium... Switzerland... Austria? It is summer time so what does that mean?? I would love to go on a train journey through the Alpes especially right after the race when I need to recover.......

I imported 2,000 Lumen lights from China. I had to import 10 (minimum). So I have a few left if anyone is interested. R2,000 which includes postage. I live in Bfn. Unfortunately you will not get a guarantee although I will test it and send you a working light to start off with. I am riding with mine and of the few I sold already, people are very happy with them. The light has 3 settings and I get about 4 hours on the lowest setting. PM me if interested.

Its not that simple. Off road also has problems. For example people/drivers don't expect bikes on gravel roads hence it is also dangerous... Then bike jacking is a lot more common off road. We need a solution. Maybe they should have 24 hour camera surveillance on certain "cyclists" friendly roads. It is amazing how a person's way of going about things changes when he knows he is being watched. Put up huge warning boards stating the next 40km is monitored by cameras for the protection of cyclists and see how many hit and runs do take place???

We need more adds like the one on Supersport about "my sport". The only way is to make the motorist (viewer) actually relate to a family member (friend or someone he looks up to and respects) who also cycles.... This will hopefully make him think that it can actually be someone he knows before driving recklessly past cyclists next time... In my view there is a lot of hate & anger due to higher stress levels these days and most people take it out when they are in a position of authority like car vs bike...... That's just how it is......... I have seen guys that I know drive like an absolute d@@s only to see that same guy at a braai that same freaking evening being the kindest softest bloke imaginable while his child is sitting on his lap...... Then we also need a billionaire (or Lotto grant) to build a 40km circular tar road exclusively for cyclists/runners/walkers close too every major city/town in SA......

Maybe get a extra ouch for your bike? I have a front bottle cage with someelastics around. I use these to stuff most of my food into. I also put some potatoes and eggs in my back pocket and stick the gels onto my bike frame with insulation tape. Seeker. I try and eat real food every 30 minutes on the bike. I only take a gel when I feel bad or when the run is coming up......... Try boiled eggs. Worked really well on my solo 200km ride this past weekend. I rode almost 8 hours and ate 3 boiled eggs. Pack of simba salt and vinegar chips and some 32 GI chews. Only took two gels. Felt ok afterwards!

Hi guys I had a really crap ride on Saturday. Headwind the first 85km, upon the turn the wind also turned 150 degrees. I actually wanna see this though. Is there a website that shows the exact wind strentgh and direction per hour as it was on Saturday? Like the forecast but actually the results........... But it must be the actual results, not archived predictions if you get what I am saying. Thx
