  1. And also if you train on natural foods don't go into a race with tons of supplements and expect an increased performance. I did this with my first ironman. On the run I had eaten way too many gels and started puking. My reaction was to eat even more gels so the process repeated itself... Finally a toppie came along and told me to only drink water. 20 minutes later I ran like a rabbit. What I also enjoy from this Whasp drink is that it is made to "encourage drink when thirsty" practises. So the taste literall ensures you don't drink too much or too little. Its hard to explain but I seem to gulp down the other drink s which are way too tasty. But I shall keep on exploring and testing new drinks and theories.... :nuke:
  2. My point is actually to not look at the price when "testing" supplements so to speak. That and I also believe if there is too much stuff in the energy drink (as each year more things are added to give/gain the edge) your body might struggle to break it down? Having said this these products are probably all tested much more scientifically than one oke going for a Sunday run so each to his own. In baby class they told us how to make your own rehydrate. Its basically boliled cooled down water and then you add salt and suger. That's it.... nothing more... Now days the energy drink even guarantees a hard on for 16 hours. Also to my point if you read "Eat to run" that oke ran 100 miler events in mountains eating rice cakes.... not scientifically formulated expensive gels and other stuff.... balls of rice and a few nuts.....
  3. I have read various books (Born to run / Eat to run / Maccas book) and tried various different diets and nutrition on race days and in training. I do Ironman so long rides/runs are in the order of the day. I came across something that made me think so here goes..... On Saturday I did a big run event. On Sunday morning my legs really hurt so I though I needed to go run 3- 4 km just to get the stiffness out. Normally after an event I am drained so any training directly thereafter is difficult. I saw the bottle of Whasp Junior Iso Hydrate Lite Crème Soda. It was specifically made for teens (I am mid 30's) and basically does not consist of too many ingredients/supplements. I was actually upset after buying it... http://www.whasp.co.za/p/603353/iso-h-drate-5 Its also cheap - this the main reason I have never used it. I kind of hoard energy drinks... I have about 10 bottles full or half full next to one another. If there is a R500 energy drink container next to the R100 container then you always tend to go for the R500 option.... hence why I have never used it. Also the amounts added to the water seemed very little. 1 and a half of a very small scoop... compared to the normally 3 heaped scoops etc. Long story short I grabbed the bottle and ran. I drank this stuff and 1k intervals and felt so good I ended up running 10km and if we didn't have guests over I would have continued even further... Now I have probably ever only three times in my life ran further than planned. So my theory is that maybe we are over complicating nutrition..... If an energy drink is more expensive it does not mean it is better. You don't always get what you pay for. Anyways thought Id share it with you. PS:- I am not a whasp rep or in any way affiliated with them
  4. Ja. Moet net nie dat ek vir jou wag nie....... Jy moet dus 2 x vinniger as ek ry. PS:- Moenie die Vrydagaand 6 Sept se trial run by die botaniese tuine vergeet nie!!
  5. Haha any suggestions?
  6. When I start my own political party, I shall recruit all of my spokespersons/advisors on the hub.
  7. I am doing Roth. Everything has been paid and booked. The guy I am staying with couldn't find an entry for Roth and is considering Alpe D Huez. I am staying with him until Friday when we leave for Paris. This race is the Wednesday after Roth (which is on Sunday). So there is a good chance I will go along to see him race Alp d Huez but I wont be racing this Tri as it is 3 days after Roth. Having said this I am going to do my best to try and somehow get approval from the race organisers to maybe just do the bike leg.... maybe they have teams that needs members?? Dave if you can and you are going, try and visit Roth for Race Day. Apparently it is something different.
  8. Not a lot of places where you can do a trial run and decent MTB event for R130.. in total......... Incredible. I am sommer tempted to skryf in twice hey -- just to make it worth the organisers time..........
  9. I am in for the 10km run and 35km MTB. Looking forward.
  10. DaveM you still up for this event? Chances are I will also be there..
  11. If I win the final prize I will either have to donate it, or donate my Midlands entry and actually do this Rockman thingy. Obviously it will add a lot to their event if the Garf attends... Any event without the Garf is almost like a golf major open without Tiger or Wimbledon without Federer...
  12. Good luck yall. Please post reports here.
  13. How technical is the 35km route?
  14. I normally aim for the calve!! Those IM tattoos are perfect for this!!
  15. Always race against someone. Make sure he is normally slower than you. Stalk him throughout the whole race. That is why we do this. When you pass that guy then air punch and be very vocal. Celebrate your victory afterwards and shout like Rocky when you go over the finish line. Brick sessions is when you eat a wacky Wednesday Real men don't eat during a race. Water is overrated. Just kidding George!
  16. Well for what its worth I have also perfected the pee whilst riding skill. The next step is to take a crap while riding. Only problem is that I only have one training route in Bfn. There is a saying don't **** where you sleep... Its kinda like that....
  17. Do not draft behind JGR. JGR I always thought that smell was of you fearing me. Only now I realise that it was part of your save 30 seconds strategy...
  18. This thread will reach 20 pages before the weekend. I will be printing this and skip the next four Triathlon + editions!
  19. Tip of the day.... Make the swim bearable for every athlete. At the start, please stand as you would expect to exit the water. In other words fast swimmers in the front and slow pokes at the back. In a perfect world there should not be one collision (yeah right) If it is your first triathlon and you are unsure. Stand 50 metres to the side and swim wide. Yes you might swim an additional 500m overall but see that as Triathlon initiation.
  20. My suggestions.... 1. Check your position going downhill. 2. Don't be afraid to go downhill 3. At the top load up with bottles and put them in your jersey and everywhere for extra weight! 4. When okes fly past... draft for those 3 seconds while they go past...
  21. Well slow is relative... I don't know official cut off times but you are going to have to suck big time... like going at less than 20km/hour or something.....
  22. Dude PM me your email address. I will send you a few pointers etc. Just please take your time in deciding.
  23. Good luck.. Worse case scenario you can still swim and bike at Bela... If the run hurts then just stop....
  24. I just looked at the route profile and now I have "pinkeye"
  25. I am not even doing it and I am super nervous. Do you guys realize how much pain awaits in the Baviaans Kloof?? Legs and lungs burning will get a new meaning..... Your arse is going to literally fall off. Your body will start to shut down around lunch time. It cant be done..... PS:- I am in the market for an entry if anyone decides not to go....
