  1. RAC Tuff one. Firstly the JMPD did an amazing job at the road closures. They were all very friendly as well , a real breath of fresh air . The race was tuff. I definitely forgot how hard running can get. I had to dig a little at the end when it started to hurt. I can't believe the numbers at the Gauteng races . I don't know if it is Parkrun that is getting so many people on the road but today the road was full for the entire race in the 3h30m pace runners group
  2. Seems like some pretty good weather for running tomorrow in Randburg. I do forsee parking issues at the RAC race so I'm going to try a go early. I also hope my bakkie doesn't get stolen because it's just behind a Polo on the most wanted list...
  3. 3 more nights to the RAC Tuff one and I haven't done anything since Sundays 947CC .
  4. Also allow a day or two to explore Petra. Its an amazing place. I can also recommend the Dead sea ultra marathon. You run from Amman down to the Dead Sea. 50km and you end 423m bellow sea level. Although I think it's usually around this time of the year so maybe enter for next year. The hotels at the end are really good.. I did all my training for my first comrades in Jordan. I once did a solo 64km run from the Southern tip of the dead all the way to the Northern tip.
  5. Lekker man. 4hours not to shabby for a first marathon
  6. In other news I went on break down to South Coast last week. My local park run is the Golden Harvest Parkrun with about a 1000 runners every week. Down at the South Coast Park run there was only about 100 retired runners and I managed first finisher. Something that's impossible for a Buffalo runner like me up in Jhb. :-)
  7. I ran about 10km of the route yesterday. I' soon realised that Im also going to have a long day and why the race was named The tuff one. Ive decided to rest from now on for Sunday's 94.7 and then only two runs next week before the RAC Tuff one.
  8. I also stopped. The first two years of not watching was hard there after you stop caring. Now I don't even know a single player's name.
  9. Hi guys . I need some advice from the Gauteng Comrades runners. I missed out on the Soweto Marathon last week as it was sold out. I don't want to have this happen again. For which races should I enter for next year for training and qualifying. I was thinking On die dam , Johnson crane and Vaal. I'm planning to follow then Comrades training program but I see it only goes up to December 2017.
  10. Or have seeding pens like the Comrades start
  11. The dead sea is 400m belowe sea level. I lived there for about 14 months. Also trained there for my first Comrades. I ran the Aman to Dead sea ultra , and once a solo run from the South of the Dead sea to the North. Pity we didn't have Strava back then I would have had some epic runs recorded :-) The Kempinski, Movenpick and Marriott hotels on the Jordan side of the dead sea are really nice.
  12. I started 10 minutes late for the 21km due to trafiic. Way to many runners for the streets. You couldn't run your own pace for the first 5km. Things also got nasty between inpatient taxi drivers and metro cops at the road closures and then an old grys tannie in het 90's Merc tried to run us over in Waterkloof. . Edit to add: Had a bad start to the morning. First on my way there on N14 I lost a tyre And then at the 10km mark I overtook a lady with a 85 on her back. At the 10km mark. She was 85. Seriously? After the race I did find out that she is the worlds fastest 85 year old at 2h05m on a 21.1km. Even found an article about her http://beautifulnews.news24.com/Beautiful-News/this-record-breaking-grandma-started-running-at-78-20171012 Inspiring stuff. I managed an easy 2h11m. I should have gone for the full marathon but I don't want to go to hard to quickly and risk injury
  13. Obviously when you are talking about "projects" you are not referring to mining project because I have work in a few countries around the world and I have found that South African H&S standards in mining projects to be the higher than anywhere else.
  14. Its common dencency to take a man out for dinner and movie before asking him to show you his top tube.
