  1. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/75887-import-duties-on-cycling-goods/ Locally available: Giro Xar Fox Flux (no stock) Bell Variant (no stock) Specialized Vice Interestingly enough, using the link above, and including shipping, the Variant is only R100 more from CRC than locally...
  2. Bell would be the Variant I think. Much cheaper, no stock though!!
  3. As trail / AM helmets go, is it worth its price tag?
  4. I see there's a 2007 Rocky Mountain Slayer 30 for sale elsewhere on the hub My LBS has just started stocking Rocky Mountain, apparently they don't sell easily though
  5. eish, you two. you see how 9ers turn everything into a bitch and moan session with you two are going on about your dietary restrictions cap I don't think the point is "hey 9ers are as good as 6ers in this situation", i think the point is "9ers can be fun". from what I've heard, the SC tallboy is pretty legit...
  6. o come on cap, it's all in good sport... they still did more on those 29ers than I can do on my little rig

  9. saw that review yesterday, shot still deliberating, don't hold your breath, it could take a few months IF I get a Cotic though, I really can't decide between the Soul and BFE. My riding is mostly trail / AM type riding. I don't really do DH or DJ, and ride dual slalom or pump track type stuff very seldom (though I do enjoy it). I do, however, ride XC races (the casual fun ride types, non competitively) with my Dad, once every 2 months or so, maybe once a month. Usually 20-40km. IF I build it off my Commencal, build highlights will include an adjustable travel coil Rock Shox Sektor (110-150mm) with 15mm through axle, and wide, burly AlexRim SupraBHs with 2.3 / 2.4 tubeless tyres. Drivetrain is currently 2x9, but will be dropping the granny gear, and one day will convert it to 1x10 when I can afford to. One day. Long from now Pros of the Soul: 1. Orange! 2. lighter 3. some say a more lively ride Cons of the Soul: 1. 27.2mm seat post Pros of the BFe: 1. Burly 2. can run a longer fork (though I am happy with 140mm) 3. ISCG tabs 4. 31.6mm seat post 5. Can slam the seat lower Cons of the BFe: 1. Heavier 2. Some say less lively than the Soul 3. Will need to run a long seatpost I reckon Usually weight doesn't bug me, but with the idea of running 1 ring up front, the lighter the bike the better! I am still way unfit on climbs and need all the help I can get! I must say right now I am leaning towards the Soul, just wondering if it'll handle my 115kg frame recklessly piling straight through the rough stuff. The only line choice is: a straight line
  10. well, I can't say I've tried hard per say, but the following has happened: - motorcycle publication sees a story I wrote on a forum (before the blog), I offer it to them, ask what they pay per word, they tell me, they go quiet, I mail them back repeatedly with 2-3 story ideas, nothing in response - then in other news, I have offered 2 publications (not necessarily motorcycle related) free content in exchange for just a mention of the blog. either has yet to take me up on my offer Then of course try get a test ride on a bike, or invited to a launch, or even gear to test. Some guys are brilliant, others don't know how email works. But hang 10, nice stuff coming - First Ascent hydration pack review, another helmet cam mini-review, some custom bikes that are dropping soon, including a SWEET locally built up Honda XR650R dirt monster
  11. I've tried, believe me. I have great content coming this year - I just need to find the time to focus on it...
  12. yeah the english is rough, but you can forgive them for that, especially since their first issue has a massive ad calling for english writers / sub-editors. kudos to them for going for it - the design and photography are excellent and the stories are interesting and informative. when I read this, and MBUK (on the iPad) it makes me sad that we're not kicking out the same level here in SA, where there is no shortage of talent...
  13. hey, if i can't share my annoyance, what good is this forum? happy friday everybody, thanks for all the advice
  14. hey I never said I was buying one. I said I was thinking about it. I still am... would be a mission to flog my frame now, and not sure how much I'd get for it anyways...
  15. the 31.6 seat tube and ISCG mounts on the BFe, plus the lower price and ability to drop the seat further and go to a full 150mm, is all really appealing. luckily i don't need to decide. I am happy with my bike (for now)
  16. considering i want to do about 1 race a month on the bike - isn't the soul the better option? how much heavier is the BFe? I really would like to go a bit lighter than my current rig what am I saying - I AM NOT BUYING A NEW BIKE!!!
  17. noooooo! i don't believe you.
  18. EVEN MORE ANNOYING - local distributor mailed me THE SAME DAY with prices. and he knows about this thread. really upsets me when distributors reply to emails and keep an eye on social networks ...
  19. yeah but what does it cost?
  20. ok I'm wrong - BFe 100-160mm. perfect for my current Sektor (110-150) you bastards!
  21. @Hairy - apparently the Cotic is better, I wouldn't know, but that's what "they" say @Drongo - BFe is nice - but optimised for 150mm travel, right? Where the Soul is optimised for 120-140, making it a nice XC plaything as well?
  22. maybe I should start riding in my motorcycle helmet...
  23. and an american flag bandana trendsetter... so who's on their way out to buy a Bell Custom 500 then, hmmm? Or do you think Bell are using Gwin to develop a dirt jump lid with more motorcycle-esque styling and coverage?
