  1. I agree with him anyway. The UCI is just a dinosaur with a financial appetite and the organisers are getting tired of supporting this never ending dinner. The UCI dos nothing the organisers cant do themselves and by getting rid of them they can control their own destiny. I can only hope it happens here too.
  2. An extreemly dangerous route is this one. I once saw a young lady almost sucked into the wheels of a massive truck on thi route, she was terrified afterwards, this route is full of trucks, my humble opinion is its not "if" but "when". Very sorry to hear this.
  3. Its not a problem HR, he recently signed a contract with ASTANA and now mentions them "FOUR" times every minute.!
  4. Hee,Hee, thats true Speed devil, ...........a "Man" gotta have at least a V6 under the hood.! A good 1 year old "Luxury" Ford or GM car / Truck, with all the extras, air con, leather seats, radio / 6cd player, air bags, etc,etc and a service plan will knock you back no more than $7000.00 bucks and you could probably negotiate a discount off that - not sure you can even get a Chinese special for that price here.
  5. That is currently one of the most hotly discussed topics of all time. Alot of people say that George W specifically had the trade centres bombed so that he could invade Iraq for their oil. They currently export 3 million barrels to the US a month. Old news that and very true. Ai,Ai, it may be old, but I simply cannot allow myself to even think for one second its true. I simply cannot believe in my heart that a president of the strongest country in the world, would sacrifice thousands of innocent men, woman and children, destroy communities and ten of thousands of families for access to oil. No Sir, as a caring, trusting people, we can not allow ourselves to believe such statements for if we do I fear there is no hope, we would have reached the bottom of the abyss and I am not ready for that thought.
  6. Having lived in the USA for many years owned a Ford and a Chevvy or two, and, on top of that I worked for a massive Ford dealership in Boston (they had nearly two hundred employees) as a driver for the mobile workshop crew whilst I was still a student, I have a small insight into the American love of cars. Ford and GM cars will NEVER loose their sparkle in the USA, they break down constantly but are dirt cheap to repair, they guzzle fuel but its still cheap compared to international prices, they have a cheap entry level cost, come with everything except a coffee mug and make a ludicrous amount of CO 2 emmissions, but they are probably still the biggest sellers in the US. ............... the problem is the rest of the world dosnt want em, and thats a huge lost market. No self respecting "blue collar worker" is gonna be seen dead in a little 1300 Corsa bakkie, no Siree Bob, not gonna happen, the American love of muscle cars and big engines is still very strong. widget2008-06-30 07:35:32
  7. The RED CROSS CHILDRENS HOSPITAL or the SALVATION ARMY are two good places to start. They should be in the local directory. .............failing that pop along to your local church and ask them if they will distribute the clothes amongst the parish needy, its winter and theres a lot of need, I am sure they would be most gratefull. I know its not necessary to mention, but some charities (like the red cross) due to possible health issues wont accept the garments unless they are cleanly washed and reasonably hygienic. God Bless you.
  8. I have had my 305 for about 4 years I think, - never missed a beat.! These are mass produced electronic gizmos, they fail, thats the sad truth, as long as the agents replace and repair, alls good with me.! My Quest (which is at least 5 years out of warranty) was playing up a while ago, took it to the agents, they said pop back tomorrow, came back a few days later, the guy says, "Hey Man, sorry, we destroyed your unit when we tried to fix it", then he pulled out a voucher and told me to go fetch a new one at Cape Union Mart. Avnic here is very good as far as service gos Muxman, take your unit to em direct.!
  9. Oh he was the one who went and did some training with Booned in Columbia if IM not mistaken?? "Ye Jest" I am sure Colonel?? (One never knows these days) ..............but is it not indicative of heavily obsessive, egotistical behaviour, what dos he stand to gain here, as a vet?? widget2008-06-28 01:20:52
  10. Generally, I think Jobergs drivers are fairly friendly and courteous, sure there are the bad apples, but, well, they are everywhere.!! Last week I was in Cape Town and driving to a client in Table View I was about to enter a traffic circle and watched in amazement as a car entered the circle and proceeded to drive, in the opposite direction (ie) against the traffic flow, not even a sorry, an apologetic wave, an embarrassed face, Nothing!!.............just turned off and went on his way.!Just another day as far a he was concerned. I even chuckled, I just couldnt believe it.!
  11. Unfortunately, we have to treat everybody these days as criminals, when in reality its probably less than 1% of the population behaving this way. Dont beat yourself up over it, we all make mistakes and get "taken" from time to time, there are still a lot of honourable people out there.
  12. Not everyone - but fair enough, as always the "majority" rules. Maybe next year.
  13. The problem with that is that everybody will choose a differant cause and whatever funds are collected will be severely diluted. In any event, most of us donate to our personal charities as a matter of cause. The idea (I think Wolfie) was getting at is to do something good as a community, and one or two organisations can benefit substantially. There is no pressure to donate, its purely voluntary, and as everybody will respect your choice of charity, if you disagree with the cause for whatever personal reason, you can just leave it until a cause comes up which you do agree with.
  14. Its a very good and a very noble idea, I would have no problem donating to CERTAIN causes, but I will say upfront, there are some I will not participate in. Its not personal, its just as Oiltrash says "I believe the need in certain areas is greater than others". So let me put my cards on the table, I will donate to any fund for Cancer patients, any fund for Christian relief, any fund assisting the disabled, any fund assisting abandoned babies, any fund assisting kids (under 18) with habitual drug or alcohol problems, any fund for hearing or sight impaired youngsters, and such types of causes. I will not donate to funds aimed at specific issues (eg) a fund aimed to collect donations to send somebody overseas to participate in a sporting event for example, or such types of collections. I do think it would be a great opportunity to do something for those less fortunate than ourselves.
  15. Theres been lots of posts on this. Dont even try and negotiate with a US based shipper, if you are not in a hurry, go to one of the bigger local bulk forwarders like UTI, EAGLE FREIGHT, BARLOWORLD LOGISTICS, PANALPINA or similar, explain your situation and let them quote you for - Collection from the usa agent, clearance of USA customs, air freight or sea freight, clearance through SA customs and tell them you will collect at their depot - this cuts out the delivery charge locally. Have the following info handy - The foreign suppliers zip code The weight and dimensions of the package The contents description The method of freight you prefer (air is quick but expensive / sea is slow but cheap) Insurance requirements If you are in a hurry go to DHL , FEDEX or a similar air freight shipper and ask for a quote, these shippers are very quick usually in 4 days its at your door, but also correspondingly more expensive. You will need the same info as above. It sounds like a hassle, but its dead easy if you let these fellas do the work, dont try and to do it all yourself to save money, its just not worth the inconvenience.

    garmin 305

Mine sits around on my bike all the time (probably 2 odd years now) and its never even looked like breaking. I assume you use it on your road bike all the time (crashed to the tar!) which is odd, cos it dosnt really take a lot of bouncing or jolts like it would on a mtn bike. Perhaps you should take the bracket to Avnic themselves, I have always found them very obliging, I once popped in there as my Quest (which was 5 years out of warranty) was playing up, they took it in and said come back tomorrow. When I went back a few days later, they told me "Sorry" we destroyed your unit when we tried to fix it.! Then after a few minutes of polite silence, they chuckled and gave me a voucher for a brand new one. I am sure they will sort you out.
  17. Perhaps they need to first ask, "Is it just a legitimate error" or was there intent to defraud the race organisers knowing that the card funds would be returned by the bank.? But like Scotty says, a petrol card dont even have a CVC number so its surprising it was accepted in the first place.
  18. You, are right, use it or something gos wrong - Murphys law. When I lived in the USA I had a cruiser and it was great, the roads are made for long distance cruising. When I returned to SA, I longed for another cruiser, so after a long debate, I bought another one, but little did I understand, SA roads are not conductive to cruising, too narrow, too many big trucks and nobody, but nobody wants to turtle along at 100kms. These bikes are also HUGE to turn and in traffic are awefull. Consequently I seldom ride the thing, except for the odd run up to the Graskop, Hazyview area and the annual Toy Run.! Anyway, the battery seems okay, fired up pretty quickly yesterday.

    Doping

Most of the narcotic drugs like Cocaine etc are covered by the countries criminal procedures law so its not necessary for athletic bodies to further complicate matters by duplicating laws. Medical drugs on the other hand are "legal use" drugs (with a doctors prescription) so the countries criminal laws are not relevant, unless of course you steal em or buy / sell em illegally.!
  20. I have no idea on fuel injection or carbs ShaunH. - I think its a 2004 model.
  21. Thats interesting slowpoke, I will look into it. Thanks.
