  1. I used to stay in Leyton (E10) , a minutes walk from E17. Used to commute daily through Hackney all the way to the Westend. As soon as i neared the west city (around Angel area) it would be a race with the couriers for the front row at the traffic lights!
  2. Happy Birthday Spidy!! Hope you have a great day, and wish you all the best for the future!
  3. Wow thats a nice machine, well done Edman. Wish you lots of safe miles and some fast race times on that.
  4. Any power meter thats ANT+ compatible. As far as I know the Powertap 2.4 is not, but the new Quark will be. I dont know of any others at this stage.
  5. You guys are lucky you have had such great service. Im not saying thier service is bad, its just that I havnt been as lucky! At the beginning of the year Amateurs 725 had a problem with the liquid crystal in her screen leaking. It was strange as she had never dropped it, or been in an accident or anything which would have caused something like that. Watch was about a year old, but we couldnt find the reciept anywhere to prove it. We sent it in, and they repaired it but for a fee of around R400 for the new screen and seals! No offer of a replacement or anything! Needless to say we found the reciept a few weeks back when we were cleaning up, and it was still in the warrantee period, but it was too late I also had a problem when I sent in a cracked cadence sensor a few months back. The casing was cracked, but the sensor still worked fine. Fee to repair was R380 and a new unit was R395! And if i didnt go ahead with the repair it was R50 to send it back to me. I had a spare so i just told them to toss it! What i can say for certain is that my next purchase will be a Garmin, im sick of fiddling with sensors on my forks to pick up the speed and having problems with my HR readings. From what i have seen the Garmins look much simpler, and are more reliable.
  6. http://images.google.co.za/images?hl=en&q=avid%20rollamajig&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi Check out this page, its got lots of pictures of them. Its a little pully thing designed to reduce the cable friction where the cable joins the rear derailleur. Dont really know how well it works, there are a lot of mixed reviews out there.
  7. I did a race once on the back of a tandem and it was a hell of a lot of fun! Just make sure you get a comfy saddle. I couldnt ride for a week after the race!
  8. I run an old 8 speed XTR derailleur on my 9 speed mtb with no problem at all. As you say its in the shifter. But make sure you run Shimano derailleurs with shimano shifters, as mixing the shifter / derailleurs with SRAM wont work.
  9. My road shoes are Shimano R215s, and im in the process of replacing them. Have had them since the beginning of 2005. They are good shoes, and functionally still fine, but are just beginning to look tatty. Recently on the one shoe the rubber protector on the heel came off, and it is not replacable (like the SIDIS and a few other brands). So now im walking directly on the carbon sole, which will seriously shorten their lifespan. Mtb shoes, is another story. Im still riding my pair of SIDI Ghosts that i got in 1998! They are amazing, and have taken everything i can throw at them, including two years of cycle commuting in London. My advice would be to spend the extra money, and get a decent pair of quality shoes that have replacable buckles, straps and sole protectors.

    Broken chain

R50.22 price diff on the CWC site btw DA and Ultegra chains. Thats the price of a burger and chips these days! My 105 chain snapped a about two years ago on my training bike, and i replaced it with a DA chain. Since then i havnt had a days trouble with it, and i ride that bike daily. For R50 more i would go Dura Ace every time!
  11. Ive been riding a set of the titanium colorued ones since December, and they are really awesome wheels. Super light for clinchers, and with GP4000s they give superb grip. I cant fault them at all, so if you can afford them go for it.
  12. PM Jules, i know he had a CR1 frame replaced after the BB area failed.
  13. I went from the FSA K-Wing flat carbon bar to this bar, and i find it much more comfortable in the drops. EC90 SLX3 road bar http://www.eastonbike.com/images/P-bars/rd_bar_ec90_slx_pro_angle.jpg http://www.eastonbike.com/images/P-bars/rd_bar_EC90_SLX3_levers.gif

    Thirsty?

Two 500ml bottles is usually more than enough for me for a 100km race. One with Cytomax, and one with plain water. But like WW says, make sure you drink lots afterwards and re-hydrate property.
