For a time like that he surely must have done some work to the gear ratios? Otherwise he would have to get to some scary cadence to maintain the speed needed.....! Wow .....Anyway I wish I could do a time like that on a road bike!!

Mark When I called your office I wad told there was no more accommodation available in the chalets/ cabins or whatever they are called. No one told me that we could camp on the premises. As no accom I assumed that I would have to stay elsewhere if my family accompanied me. This is why I was peeved at the thought of having to stay elsewhere and pay for meals that I could not use. From your response it seems as if the arrangements are quite reasonable. I would suggest that your office staff ask more questions as other newbies to your neck of the woods might experience similar lapses in communication. I know it is a stage race but I like being with my family between stages. Point being that although I will not be making use of their meals etc , they still include it in the pricing. Not to make too big a deal of it but I am a family man and have to fit cycling in around these responsibilities. Not their fault but just the comment that they could be more flexible in their approach. I have only ridden the SabieXperience before so not a lot of experience but we arranged our own accommodation and spent time as a family between stages. I just balk at having to pay for meals that I dont eat. My opinion Over and Out!

Sounds like a nice enough venue but relatively inflexible package. I wanted to take my family with me. Wife and daughter dont ride. No reduction even if i dont use the tent or eat the meals. In fact I was told that my family could buy meal vouchers. Who says we eat ahat they prepare? Luckily there are other places that are willing to be flexible and accommodate my family. Pity about what otherwise seems liek a nice place to ride ....just not family friendly.

Ran Conti Mountain King and Race King combination with rim tape and Stans . Battled to seat with compressor but a bomb sorted it out no problem. Learnt later that it will seat well with compressor if you remove the valve core then replace after tyre is seated. Wrote off the race king last week ( running pressure too low and damaged the tyre bead, now running a Hutchinson on front. I have found that I need to keep tyre pressure slightly higher on 29 " than 26" wheels . Running 2.1 bar. Hope this helps

I think thet mud will St%ff it up totally . A great idea if just for road and dry weather use though. Solar panel would be more efficient and probably lighter

I went through the same process and finally ended up with the Giant. R26 k it is very well specced and widely available. Also liked the fact that it is stocked in may bike shops. I have the silver version but see it also comes in white. A magic upgrade from a 26" hardtail so my rising comparison is definately not justified. Everything just rolls better. Only gripe. I HATE the saddle. Will have to upgrade to something more plush. I think that the Fizik saddle on a hardtail would qualify as an inquisition instrument of torture. 2 hours on that and would confess to anything!

Has anyone used one of these cycle computers? I am particularly curious about the altimiter /ascent/descent function. Does this work on air pressure and how accurate is it. Priced at R1395

Being recently "hooked" on Mountain biking , I am in the process of upgrading to a dual suspension bike. There are a few bikes I like , but without riding them back-to back, I dont know which to choose. I have heard that there are ride before you decide days held every so often at Northern Farm. Does anyone know when this is likely to happen again? Are these regular days?

I have just done a tubeless conversion on my MTB and was wondering why Presta valves ? As they are loose anyway , why not fit Schrader valves. Cars and motorcycles use them effectively. What's the difference?

I got to the section below Fratellis at about 07h00. Lost my way slightly at the new shopping centre on Nicol until I saw a group of 5-10? riders coming across the road . Thereafter was passed by 3 crazy daredevils with death wishes about 5 km in. Exited at Rivonia and rode home to Fairlands via tar. Need to do it in reverse this weekend. Lovely 49km route. Just right for my fitness level at the moment.

I finally ride the spruit all the way to Paulshof yesterday. At my level there definitely are technical bits. Lovely ride though. Not many cyclists on the last bit. Probably won't ride it alone again but it is a really nice ride.

Linden Cycles has always given me good service and advice that I consider fair. Even advising me to buy cheaper options rather than line their own pockets. Not the flashiest shop around but good business values count to me!

I would like to ride the spruit all the way from Paulshof to Emmerentia dam area. I have previously only ridden from Conrad drive to Emmerentia. A couple of questions arise. Where could I safely park my car in Paulshof? Is the route easy to find and follow from there to Conrad Drive(I am familiar with the rest of the route) Is the route very technical or will it be okay for my son who hasn't ridden much to come along? Is the spruit busy on a Saturday morning. I dont want to go if it is too quiet as I am aware of muggings in the recent past. All help appreciated
