  1. Has anybody bought their bibs from Chain Reaction cycles, is there any import costs on bringing in clothing like that or just the shipping fees? Im looking for some Assos S5 but all i can find locally at good prices is very big sizes.
  2. I did the route a bit earlier in the evening... got to say as hard as it is I think its a really good ride. However I got to Clifton... and got otherwise distracted and wondered down to the beach for the next hour... :whistling: :whistling: Haha, didnt have the legs to finish the big climb and was starting to get late.
  3. Got to agree with Rouxtjie... Had my cycleops for a few weeks now and havent looked back, I didnt have the extra cash to get the R10k deal so got the JetFluid Pro and it works great, the interface with the virtual training is awesome and I find an hour seesion on the trainer watching google maps and the route profile is really alot of fun and passes time by quickly.
  4. Cant go wrong with GP4000, I just got a set two weeks ago and am really impressed with them. Good value for money in all regards.
  5. Anybody got some experience with the Michelin Pro 3 race tyres?

  7. Hey guys Im looking for any road cyclists in the midvaal / meyrton / henley-on-klip area that are keen on maybe forming some group rides. Im currently based in Henley-on-klip and often pass a few cyclist in ones or twos while out on my rides. If anyone is keen or knows of anybody in the area that maybe interested please leave me a PM and we can organize something.
  8. I have to say this last weekend out on a ride i was thinking to myself it seems like motorists are becoming more and more aggresive to cyclists on the road... Ive also had an incident or two on the road in the last couple of weeks. First one a few weeks ago as I am coming up to a stop street, slow enough to unclip and check for cars a bakkie comes around the corner and an idot on the back stands up and throws a quartz beer bottle at me, luckily i saw him early enough and managed to duck and swerve a bit for it to miss me. Then this last weekend from a good few kilometers back i see a truck overtaking another truck into oncoming traffic and leaving no shoulder for myself on the road, i started to wave my hands to make sure he had seen me at which point he flashes his lights and just keeps coming... eventually i realized he wasnt going to make it past the other truck in time and so i dive off the road into the gravel. At which pint both trucks come past me side by side doing well of the 60km/h speed limit. Its becoming a matter of when it goes wrong rather than if and sometimes i wonder if its worth it.
  9. Thanks for all the replies... Ive never had the pain before and i dont get it on my shorter rides during the week.... It is a new bike and this was my first proper ride of long distance and this was the first time it happened. Never happened on my previous bike. I will look at going for a bike fitment at the end of the month and see what comes from that.
  10. Road... Been riding as long as i can remember.
  11. Hey guys For the first time over the weekend on a 2h30 ride i started getting uncomfortable pain, almost like cramping in my shoulders and pins and needles in my left hand. The pain seemed worse in my left shoulder. The last few km were so uncomfortable and i was moving around continously from the drops to the top of the bars and then left hand off to get the feeling back. Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas whats causing this all of a sudden? Is it maybe a question of bike setup? Thanks
  12. Haha... all in all the time in theatre and hospital (I got an infection too and was re-admitted after being discharge) ran a bill of 6 figures. Medical aid covered it all I was wondering if i could re-sell them on the chinese black market
  13. PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE.... From firsthand experience the bones in your foot after injuries are extremely sensative and take time to recovery to a sense of 100% 16 months ago i shattered my navicular and dislocated my 4th and 5th metetarsals... i had the metatarsals fixed with K-wies and the navicular with a plate and 5 screws. I was completely non-weight bearing for 4 months before having everything removed and starting with physio to get mobility back in my leg and ankle. My leg all but disintegrated in those 4 months, my ankle seemingly froze up and my achileas shrunk, as mentioned it all happened 16 months ago and i still walk with a bad limp, struggle with swelling and pain. Everything has improved quite a bit over the last month or so after spending extensive time with a biokineticist... Just be patient with the rehab and do extensive physio and stretching on your achilleas and ankle joint to get mobility back. It will get frustrating to start. Im seeing 2 specialists in Cape Town next week for an update and a discussion about what my future looks like, extremely nervous and anxious to hear the outcomes. Good luck with the recovery

    DIY Frame Build

Quick update on the frame design... put together a full assembly to get an idea of what a complete bike would look like... As for material i am still waiting on Titanium pricing so it seems like it may be a bit of a stretch. I got pricing from Ceeway for steel tubing and its works out quite expensive for what i was looking for. I chatted to a guy called Matthew at Saffron frame works and he suggested staying away from steel for a dual suspension but rather going the aluminium or titanium route. I should have prices for aluminium by the end of the week hopefully. We have dont a few test welds on some small aluminium pieces we have here in the workshop and it will come out quite nicely if we get the settings spot on. The next stop is finding out about having the rear triangle made from carbon...

    DIY Frame Build

Was looking at the Caminade website a few days ago... some really pretty bikes. Yea it seems from all the suppliers i have contacted its going to be difficult getting the right size chromoly tubes locally. One of my alloy supplies is putting together some pricing and information for me on titanium tubing. They did say it might be possible to get the tubes cut to length which makes it alot cheaper and cost effective. My next contacts will be bike tube specific suppliers to see what they can help with and suggest...
  17. Awesome thanks. Maybe i can try Cajees in Alberton then as well, its closer to home.
  18. Does anybody know which LBS in gauteng keep stock of the Shimano AM45 SPD shoes? I have tried getting help from buycycling but there is no response

    DIY Frame Build

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, keep it coming.... Did a bit of digging around and as far as i can gather the steel used for all European bike frames is not available in S.A... So am i now looking at Chromoly which is quite popular in frames and seems to be 1 or 2 possible suppliers. I have also made some enquires about Titanium tubing prices and availability. This could be a nice option as it is quite easy to work with and weld. I also know somebody who builds beautiful racing kyaks out of carbon fibre so will look at maybe chatting to him about doing the rear triangle in Carbon, could be a nice addition and someone to learn from who know how to work with it all. Hairy - The curved tube are more for cosmetics, i like the flowing lines it creates... As for the colour well, i cant reveal all my sectrets in one go

Quickly did some googling on steel bike frames and from what i can see its not just your ordinary carbon steel you would find at Macsteel for example. Problem there could be whether or not there is an equivalent of some sort in S.A or what the costs would be getting the steel imported. The main manufacturers seem to be Columbus Tubi & Tange Tubing. Could also throw Reynolds in there. A link to an interesting table regarding steels used. http://www.pipedreamcycles.com/2012/wp-content/uploads/pdf/Tubing%20Comparisons.pdf Research continues...

    DIY Frame Build

I am fully aware that it wont be a straight road project and will require alot of trial and error. My idea would be to get everything in place before proceeding with final welds... I would also build a jig to fit the frame tubes in for mock up assembly and welding ( something like below) A good friend of mine that i studied with works for a company that does computer analysis simmulations of susspension so i have chatted to him about analysing the design before proceeding. Im interested in your work with Carbon? I thought about it for some components but then also though if i do it wrong and it doesnt cure properly i could end up with some nasty injuries

I can have the heat treatment done as well... We have a lot of work outsourced for heat treatment. Would how ever have to look at the cost involved though. Steel could definitely be an option... Ultimately will come down to costing but also if i go ahead with it i want to do it properly. Nice looking bike that Caminade
