  1. I am fully supportive of a free market Demand vs supply So reselling at a larger profit doesnt concern me. Even if I lost out on a deal or i was the original seller. I got what I asked and if someone made a bigger score on it then good for them. Yes it feels like you missed out but so be it What i do find unethical is if a buyer (who has the intent to resell) deliberately schemes to get the price as low as possible, taking advantage of the sellers "situation" or a sellers lack of knowledge on a product. The opposite is also true. Some people really sell sh** on the hub at really questionable prices...
  2. to understand the whole TDF of MTB we need to understand see how does the Cape Epic stack up against other MTB Marathon stage races Do these other races attract bigger names? More UCI points? Media coverage? Prestige? financial rewards etc. I think the sport of Marathon MTB is still very small or less prestigious at a pro level (but big for amateurs) and thus way behind XCO. Marathon MTB at a pro level needs to be boosted in prestige before it will attract bigger names in the sport. Edit: This edition may have very little XCO rider participation but the field does have some high level marathon specialist which is what the Epic is supposed to attract
  3. i always feel that looking at the numbers doesnt tell the whole story havent the routes become more "technical" and less gravel bike friendly over the years?
  4. dam, i thought his type of attitude was only prevalent with mid pack mamils at road events........ Edit: In addition to this, you can understand why you dont see new faces at these events. If the participants are too elitist it wont encourage newbies to the sport
  5. yep im also interested in this but hoping the events are not in winter for selfish reasons (i absolutely hate riding in mud and wet)
  6. I think OP is asking for a single remote lockout that can do the shock and fork independently. in the scenario he posted he asks if he can have the fork locked out and the shock open and vice versa. for Scott twinloc or any othe dual lockout remote if you want the fork open, the shock will also open and vice versa @Kai Baird, i dont think something like this exists but its perhaps just have a remote for which ever is hardest to reach for and have a manual lever for the easier one to reach. Not the answer you wanted but i dont think something like what you asking for has been created.
  7. dam thats tragic.
  8. I hope you are right. If this does make the law I hope they word it correctly. the reality is if they do for some reason enforce it, and the wording doesnt make this distinction, you can get a law enforcer (or some over zealous resident/pedestrian) giving some mum or dad a hard time because his kid is on a balance bike or some roller skates.
  9. For all the issues with USN (price and quality) they actually the only brand (available in SA) that I am aware of that is 3rd party tested. Been using whey protein for a good couple of years now (even before my cycling days when i was a gym bro) and tried and tested various brands. Last one I used was Natures Whey (unflavoured) and felt it was the best. However I wont recommend it nor any protein powder out their available in SA. The industry is poorly regulated and many products are untested (this is not just an SA thing which is rather scary). Reading too many reports of what you buy is not what you get. A link to an old test done by Dischem back in 2015. https://www.dischem.co.za/protein-content-of-supplements-as-analysed-compared-to-label-declaration Right now im off Protein powder and just eating a high protein diet to make sure i hit my numbers. On the odd day I will top up with some USN (Blue lab - stay away from the hardcore black tubs, they have amino spiking in them so dont trust the quality or the numbers on the label). Anyway just remember its a supplement and most of dietary needs should come from "normal foods sources". Its only meant to top you up if you have a "short coming" in your diet.
  10. "Our recommendation is as follows: Pedestrians should have exclusive use of the Sea Point Promenade from Mouille Point to the Sea Point Pavilion swimming pool; and cyclists on peddle bicycles, skateboarders, and rollerbladers should share the sidewalk (pavement) on the sea-side of Beach Road; and no e-bikes, e-scooters, or motorised devises should be allowed on the sidewalk on the sea-side of Beach Road or on the promenade." My problem with the above is that they are not just banning cyclist but rollerbladers and Skateboarders as well. This does unfortunately restrict mums and dads taking their little ones out for a walk either using their little scooters, skateboard, rollerblades etc
  11. that wasnt what i was asking but ok. just lamenting about do they do a Chris Froome Vuelta win of 2011 type celebration or do they just get their medals "posted" to them Either way i am drawing attention that its not just about prize money or your name on the records books but the experience thats taken away from these athletes that they will never get back.
  12. so do the Brazil get the their Gold medal now sent in the post box. No standing on top of the podium. What about 4th place then now 3rd place team. No Celebrations Sucks these teams lost out on the experience Edit: Read now that the Italians were 2nd. Brazil was also disqualified
  13. im actually frothing at the idea of a very windy Cycle Tour The one where its a head wind all the way to the south and then the wind directions makes a hard 180 turn when you approach Chappies
  14. im sure its some massage thingy but i had to wonder, what the heck is that purple thing in the yellow box.......
  15. i dont think he owns Bulls but you probably right about him riding a Bulls. He seems integral to the brand. Not to derail the topic but why doesnt Bulls sell in SA considering its success and history in the Epic. Even the camera bikes are Bulls bikes. Seems like Bulls is making such an investment in the Race but not bothered with selling their bikes here.
  16. is Platt racing on an Spez Epic? Apologies if i missed it in the article
  17. You plan on using it on a gravel bike or Mountain bike? I am interested to hear how it deals with pedal strikes
  18. they extended the invite to riders in 1D as well and we start later. Going by seeding the average 1D rider should be slower than the average 1C rider but there will be riders in these batches that are seeded much lower than what they are capable of and could be there by 9:45. But yes I agree they are taking chances and hoping 1C and 1D riders will bite even if there is no hope of getting there in time
  19. People giving OP lots of flak here. Strava has an ebike ride option but it does require the rider to actually change the ride type to Ebike ride. I have one guy I follow that rides an ebike and he always records it as an ebike ride and i give him kudos and enjoy him sharing his experiences But One of strava big features is comparisons/competitions whether you into it or not and having ebikers filling up top positions among "normal" rides does dilute the value of this feature. If you not using strava for this feature and only comparing you to you then thats all great and more power to you (I am with you in that) BUT dont criticize someone else who actually wants to use a feature that was intended to compare their results against others.
  20. Comon dude, is the Hub not part of Social Media.....
  21. i think we need a bigger bag
  22. are those gradients the steepest sections of the climb because they seem a bit high
  23. had to miss the race (due to injury) and had proper fomo watching the coverage on IG
  24. just be careful where you place that gentle hand 😄
  25. doing hero pulls upfront and exploding later also makes for better story telling than sucking wheel all day.... just saying (1D riders take note)
