  1. unpopular political incorrect opinion As good as an athlete Nic is and how awesome his life storyis, he didnt exactly feature in this years race. All this publicity surrounding him not getting in car seems like they treating him like an amateur rider who shouldnt have been there but given the opportunity based on his race/background/life story etc. Why is the benchmark set so low? South Americans have similar challenges and I am not sure whether their countries celebrate mediocrity? Yes he had a touch race, crashed etc and all but shouldnt we be holding our athletes to higher standard? Just tired of western media portraying non whites from Africa as second tier athletes and being held to a lower standard......
  2. Dont think it was disrespectful He made it quite clear what his goals and intentions were. I cant imagine what the tour would have looked at without MVDP this year animating the first few stages. Will take a tour with MVDP for a few days than no days. Maybe next year we get to watch him the entire tour
  3. Cav giving us Sub Vets hope
  4. that bike looks like it will fold in itself with components exploding everywhere just riding off the pavement where as the Rook looks a lot more solid........ ive been drooling over a rook for a while now. Does anyone know if it can take 700c wheels with say 30c or 28c tires for those roadie days
  5. her alloy post lighter than the carbon option........
  6. i would love me a pair of blue tires for road and MTB They should have gone blue at the back as well
  7. Sorry but I am going to sound like a douche BUT having a BMI of over 27 can only be a result of excess fat or carrying lots of muscle. Yes Bone structure plays a part but unless you a mutant freak with insanely thick wrists, ankles, hands etc i doubt your bone structure is going to throw this metric out by that much. so which is it? As someone who lifts weights and somewhat follows bodybuilding and other strength sports I can tell you now most people grossly underestimate their body fat % (even on this forum). Its actually sad. BUT maybe to answer your question, i think like many people said if you drop weight on the bike (Wheels, saddle etc) it will help but it comes at a cost and if you can afford and makes you feel good then go ahead. I know I would certainly love some shiny new parts for my bikes. But unless you a pro rider and there really isn't anything further you can do for fitness besides peak for events, then best bang for buck to get faster uphill is to get fitter and lighter.
  8. My V*k bru either you a body builder or you delusional about your body fat % you have lots of weight to loose. (unless you have a medical conditional then I take the entire statement back)
  9. Got super annoyed with a group of ebikers at Tokai. Tokai is generally very busy on weekends and this is exacerbated with the closures at Table Mountain. No complaints, more people on the trails the better the jol. Lot of riders (at various fitness levels) slogging their way up the jeep tracks, some faster than other and some pushing their bikes. What pissed me off was that on a very busy section of the jeep track was a group of ebikers storming past everyone causing some to veer off their lines and almost falling off their bikes. I get it, they want to do repeated laps but they had no trail etiquette, no warning, no bell, just wiz past in turbo mode. Either these are new riders or riders that think they own the trail (elitist mentality). Generally though during the week when Tokai is more quiet my experience with Ebikers are pleasant.
  10. Get a road bike. You will get decent road bike at that budget. As for size, i dont know how your leverages are compare to mine but I am of similar height and would suggest a 48cm to 50cm bike.
  11. same here that first rock garden not only has a B line but a C Line as well in fact you could argue there is an A+ and A- line through the rocks as well.
  12. out of curiosity is this the rock garden at Cecelia Forest? when I rode there last week i noticed that they chipped away at some of the rocks to smooth out that rock garden.
  13. Lol for comfort, I always tell myself that in order to be exceptional in one thing you have to suck at many other things. So if I cant in my wildest dream ever produce at least 5 watts/kg then I am sure i can out bench them all at the gym and at the same time i am sure I can outclimb hafthor bjornsson on any bike ????
  14. Would be interested in in Roglic, Pogacar , WvA and Ganna's numbers. That FTP for MVDP seems a bit overstated compared to other analysis done on his power profile before.......
  15. wild left field idea here If Mariske is selected for MTB perhaps have Candice team up with Ash
  16. wasnt his father inlaw Raymond Poulidor....................
  17. Maybe some kids messed with the directional arrows This has happened before on races
  18. Yyyy

    Which bike?

The more i think about replacing my road bike with a gravel bike the more I believe in n+1
  19. why would it follow you....... and how far did he follow you. When you woke up this morning was it at your bedside???? is it still trying to find its way to your home???? I need answers
  20. running boost wheelset on a non boost frame?

    Tyre choice

Is Barzo and Mezcal combo that bad? Im running 2.35 (4c, isotecG, Cape Cobra) on both (Barzo front and Mezcal back) and dont have any complaints. (same general pressure as OP) in the wet they not great but dry summers i dont have much to complain about. But then again maybe im just slow and or my baseline im using is wrong. I am comparing it to my previous 2.3 fast trak (2bliss, grid, gripton). i am running 30mm ID rims so I dont know if that makes much of a difference. Also I am assuming compound plays a role in tire performance.... PS: Also running Cushcore XC inserts
  22. How tall are you? thats a XS so would probably be suitable for a growing tween/teen? on a side note can i just say bikes are getting darn expensive, i mean wtf. I know covid and lockdown and limited supply and all that but some prices out there just seem like extortion.
  23. yeah need to level up
  24. Personal view, MTB is terrain you ride and not defined by the bike. This would include going up and down. If you riding district gravel roads/farm roads that a citi golf can ride then i do not regard it as MTB. I am not being snobbish here and got big respect for riders putting in big km's on such rides whether its on a gravel bike or a dual sus LT bike - but I wouldnt define it as MTB. To me MTB is riding on more "adventurous" terrain where clearly a more lets say light trail bike/DC bike would be the best tool for the job for most people. (This statement doesn't apply to skilled riders ripping black diamonds on XC bikes like pros) If you riding any MTB bike on a mix of tar and gravel then I wouldn't regard it as MTB. I would just call it gravel riding but with the lets say "not the best" tool for the job. Im not judging/hating anyone who wants to ride an XC or even Enduro bike on gravel most of the time. Ride what you want on whatever terrain you want. My post was just in statement that in the larger populace of riders (my personal view and experience), most who own a MTB dont really "MTB". So to expect them to invest in a Stumpy wouldnt make sense - Thus the whole point on why Spez is pushing Epics and not having stumpies available - hence me saying we speaking to ourselves and we a minority. if you wanted to push Stumpy sales then the people who are currently buying Epics (insert any other XC bike) will need to have a change in mindset - i meant this as a point where these riders would actually want to ride "MTB" as defined by me. This statement wasn't meant to say they have to change but more in relation if you want to increase demand (and therefore stimulate the increase in supply) for the stumpy(or any other equivalent bike)
  25. I think its clear on the maps that some trails that are ridden are not legal. I was watching BKXC videos ride "the other women" and know locals who ride there as well but based on the maps its clear that its not a legal trail. Another example is the section after plum pudding descend where some riders just continue straight down instead of going left or right down the jeep track. However if you look at the trailforks app it shows that its a MTB trail. And thats just one of many instances Thanks for this, i always enjoy watching mtb vids made by locals.
