  1. To all the training specialists... would it be beneficial to do a commute of about 20km on a singlespeed bicycle three days a week, or will it be detrimental to my training? Should I rather use the bike that i will race on for the commute, including all the gears...and do some intervals or can I use the singlespeed for intervals and high intensity...
  2. Anybody tried using/training with PowerCranks? Or know of someone that's using it currently and would like to comment?
  3. The top of the range one will be around R4000-R5000 if you look at international sites. That's a lotta dough just to see at night..Rather eat some more carrots.
  4. If you mount this light to your handlebar and use all the lights including the led's, do you think that the peripheral vision would increase? Especially close to your front wheel to see those darn rocks during switchbacks ?
  5. Are there a pricelist available yet ?
  6. Didn't the guys at the Epic have major problems on those Racing Ralph tyres ?
  7. Does anybody know how the start of the mountain bike race in knysna is going down? My email states that it starts at 8am whereas the website says you can still pick up your race-packs until 8:30 ? also my number is CN 8156. what does this mean. On the website they say the seeding will be done according to PPA seeding. It doesnt seem like this is the case ? apparently A and B are the road races. C D and E are for MTB. What are the second characters for. N for Nobody? N for non-registered ? A buddy of mine is doing the 50k mtb and his number is DC. what is the C for ? Anybody ?
  8. Anyone knows where or from whom I can buy Hammer products in south Africa and or Cape Town? Like gels and bars and Perpetuem ?
  9. Yes Joobs it might have been warmer this morning in CT compared to yesterday, but when i left my house it was still freezing (for Cape town that is - it never goes below 0 here thank goodness) At one stage I thought I might loose my nose to frostbyte.. Thats about all that was cold. If you dress correctly and you stay dry (ie it doesnt rain) then anything from 0 to 10 degrees is a pleasure to ride in. P.S. at least the wind did not blow this morning. That is always a plus even if it is cold outside....
  10. with us here in the cape it is not only the cold but also the rain that keeps us busy in wintertimes. For that exact reason I bought a pair of SealSkinz gloves. they are REALLY waterproof and keeps your hands nice and dry and warm. When it gets really cold like this morning at 7am, I wear a pair of cotton gloves (you can buy them at most hardware stores for around R5 a pair) underneath. They are thin and comfortable and warm. Your hands will never be cold or wet again......Ever.
  11. I would also like to know where to get those specialized sl 2-bliss tires (weighing in at only 530g for the tubeless!!) from in the Cape-town area.
  12. Have anyone tried the maxxis ignitor ?
  13. Is it UST though ?
  14. Ry jy hulle self ? Ek verbeel my ek het gesien jy ry 'n ander maak in een van jou reviews..dink dit was die tokai race review..
  15. I asked the question "What is the best XC UST tire" in the tech-shack in this post https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=13628 The actual question should rather have been: "What is the most preferred UST XC tire used in and around Cape-Town"? Anyone else care to comment?
  16. I stay in Cape Town so the summer is normally dry and the winter is dry for ten minutes then wet for ten minutes then dry for 10 minutes then....and so it goes...
  17. Im sure this question has been asked a thousand times before, but here it is again. What is the best Cross-country mtb UST tire around. I currently am riding the Maxxix Crossmark UST and have had 0 (yes zero) problems with them. No punctures, no burping, no nothing.... The problem with the crossmark is that they are not the lightest tire out there and are shaky in the very loose stuff (tend to loose the front) and the mud (but im sure that all tires are bad in the mud except maybe dedicated mud tires). I have thought about the pythons but the reviews on the web suggests that the crossmarks have better cornering grip. So what other tires are out there that has been tried and tested to be the best all-purpose mtb ust tire available that money can buy.
  18. Bigben Another thing that seems to help with the avids squeeling is replacing the wave rotor with a stock round xt rotor. Worked for me. No squeeling whatsoever. You can also use prepsol to clean the discs. works very well and is easy on/easy off..
  19. MW I am not speaking about chain wax at all. never used in on my motorcycle. It doesnt work in the wet and muddy conditions we race in. I am speaking about high quality Motul chain lube. It is very thin, super sticky and does NOT come off in water or flings off at high speed. It also keeps the m/cycle chain exceptionally clean for what its worth. Im gonna use it on my chain and see what happens.
  20. No harm in trying the castrol stuff. I used to do enduro mcycle races and used something similar to castrol (cant remember the name, but ill have a look in the motorcycle shop where i bought it). This stuff was very, very resistant to coming off in rain, mud, riverbeds, river crossings etc so i am leaning that way at the moment. If you think about it, the chain on a 450cc offroad mcycle in a 4 hour enduro race takes much, much more punishment from water and mud than any bicycle chain ever can, so that stuff must work. thanks for the tip bladerunner. Im gonna try it and see what happens.
  21. so that begs the question: Can you use Squirt in wet conditions at all. as Golefty states that his chain went dry as well. Does that mean we have to use wet lube only in wet conditions, and can you apply it over squirt ? and which one is the best in the WET.....?
